Torrance Gibson suspended for the year

All the report says is that he was suspended for violation of the university's student code of conduct.

Bummer....I was hoping to see what he could do at the receiver position after making the switch from QB. Reports said that he was really looking good at WR and we all know that he is a freak of an athlete.

I would be surprised if he stays at OSU after this. He will probably transfer to a smaller school and possibly move back to QB. I can't see him staying around after being in Meyer's doghouse the past 2 years.

I used to respect Urban Meyer very highly, and while I still respect him as a speaker and what he tries to get out of his kids physically and mentally, I'm rather put off by his disagreement.

Look, the only reason why he disagrees with the university's decision is because it puts him in a tough spot for the purposes of his job: putting Ohio State football in the best position to win. It's not his jurisdiction nor his place to levy the suspension when the matter falls under the pretense of sexual harassment of another student. That's the university's job. While there is some uncertainty as to what "exactly" happened, the rumor blocks and forums all pretty much connect into the simple fact whatever it was that he did, it was sexual harassment.

The university needs to set an example that sexual harassment is 100% intolerable. It doesn't matter if you play football for the Buckeyes, or if you're the #1 Keystone Light smasher in your fraternity, or if you're just some random shmuck. No means no. No if's, and's, or but's.

I am very disappointed in Gibson's actions simply because he should have known better. The rumor and claim is this involved a tutor of his. Hey Torrance? Your grades were awful last year. You obviously have to go to the tutor either as a part of some probationary plan Urban and the school cooked up to keep you eligible to justify your scholarship and to play on the field, or because you know your grades are bad. DON'T DO THIS CRAP.



I think he'll end up leaving. Kids these days have no sense of thinking about their family, their teammates, their coaches, their fans. There are some things that you have to do for yourself because it puts you in the best position to succeed, but this obviously isn't one of them. This was a boneheaded, selfish move.

I will say this, after reading several online reports:

A former tutor "claimed" that she was harassed. It doesn't mean, as far as I've read, that the University has investigated this and confirmed it, nor has Gibson acknowledged doing this. From the reports, Meyer disagreed with the decision because of the lack of proof surrounding this and it's still an "alleged claim".

Hate Meyer all you want, but in the past he has 0 leniency with situations concerning women, guns and drugs. None. He has never stepped up and publicly stood up for a player that was under scrutiny for any of those things. Carlos Hyde sat the first 3 or 4 games his senior year for an "alleged assault on a female", and later video showed he did not assault the woman.

I would have to think that Meyer talked to people surrounding the situation with Gibson and it didn't add up that Gibson actually did it.

Remember that many of these young women see targets on these players back and have a tendency to scream things like this. I hope Gibson didn't do wrong with this tutor. If he did, I'll be the first to say Meyer shouldn't have stood up for him. Based on Meyer's stance on these types of things, he has no tolerance and would not publicly take up for them.

You may be right that this could be someone crying "wolf", but I have no idea who in their right mind would cry wolf seeing as how there is an advent of interconnection and social interaction that was never here in the 80's and 90's. What I'm saying is that probably 99% of kids know if they were to B.S. something like this, they would get found and their life would be made a living hell. I'm personally dubious a kid is willing to take that risk, but I can understand if you're of the mindset that anything is possible.


Honestly, the more I think about it, I think there must be more to the story. I think whoever pulled the trigger on the suspension knows something we don't. At the very least, they too are putting themselves on an open fire in case the suspension truly isn't warranted. Heck, they're already putting themselves out there just because they've suspended an OSU football player. That's a big deal, and I would imagine they weren't willing to do such a thing if they couldn't justify it.

The University simply may have a zero tolerance policy on sexual harassment against one of their employees. So I have done some more reading and here is what has surfaced to paint a clearer picture.

Apparently this incident either happened earlier this year in the spring (according to the Columbus Dispatch) or it was just very recently. The incident apparently stems from Gibson posting some racy pictures of either a student tutor or student teaching assistant onto social media (the word is that it was Snapchat) without the person's permission. If that is the case, perhaps it's not necessarily the worst form of sexual harassment, but it fits a definition of sexual harassment and, with recent developments in criminal statutes concerning the distribution of obscene materials via the internet and social media (see: "revenge porn" and the leaking of private photos), it actually starts to tip-toe closer towards some legal gray area.

There are two other developments of interest regarding this case. Apparently this case is already closed: the complaint was brought before the school's council that hears these grievances and punishes students accordingly, and they told Gibson he has to take the semester off from attending classes. Ohio State's football program (probably more directly, Urban Meyer,) represented Gibson on the appeal and they couldn't get the decision overturned. So Gibson's goose is cooked on this matter.

The other detail is apparently Ohio State is not going to release any more details on the matter because of federal privacy laws ensured to protect the interests of the accuser.


So in a nutshell, Gibson was found guilty and there's nothing that can be done about it anymore. He has to sit out this season.


My guess is Meyer was upset with the fact Gibson's suspension prevents him from being eligible to play this season since he can't take any classes.

here's the question I have. I don't understand how a tudor gets themselves in a situation where they are taking exotic/lewd/questionable photos. whatever word you want to use. without something more than this going on in the 1st place. then you have to trust that an 18/19 year old won't share these photos that you thought were private. this is the reason I think urban knows there is more to this.whatever happened wrong, and I have no idea what it was. but tudoring must need to be done in a public setting where they can be accountable for what happens with witnesses. here's my question, say the 2 go out on a date. and this happens. how do you convince a jury that you were not taking these suggesting photographs of your own volition anyway.just thinking outsidethe box here.just bear in mind before you get on me. This was 2 years ago. He ended up going to Mississippi Gulf Coast Jr. College and signed with the CFL Edmonton Eskimos last year (2018).
