It should be an interesting year from the Bobcats, without knowing much of what to expect from them. Head Coach Saul Phillips enters his 4th season at the helm of the OU program this year. 6 players return from last season who got major playing time with the graduations of Kenny Kaminski and Antonio Campbell and starting point guard Jaaron Simmons transferring to Michigan. Key pieces in Jason Carter (So), Gavin Block (Jr), Mike Laster (Sr), Jordan Dartis (Jr) and Doug Taylor (Jr) return to the team this year, with a mix of incoming freshman and returning players who will see some time on the court this year.

After a 80-57 exhibition win over Capital on Saturday, the Bobcats will tip-off the regular season this coming Saturday as Alabama A&M comes to town.

OU (1-0) opened up their season this afternoon against Alabama A&M (0-1), by defeating the Bulldogs 61-53. The Bobcats took a 10 point lead into halftime, with that lead being cut down to 8 by the end of the game, but OU held on for the victory. OU's stellar freshman guard, Teyvion Kirk led all scorers with 16 points, followed by Gavin Block with 12 points and Kevin Mickle with 10 points. Mohamed Sherif led A&M's attack with 14 points on the day.

Ohio will take their win and prepare for their next game, which isn't until Thursday, when they play Clemson in the Gildan Charleston Classic.

Opening up the Gildan Charleston Classic, the Bobcats (1-1) could never quite get control of the game against Clemson (3-0), ultimately getting edged out, 81-76. Fortunately for the Bobcats, this was a very good showing for them, especially for Junior Forward, Gavin Block, who achieved a career high 22 points, while also bolstering his stats with 10 rebounds to achieve a double-double, he led all scorers in the game. Jordan Dartis also chipped in 18 points for OU on the night. Donte Grantham led Clemson on the night with a 20 point performance. Followed by Elijah Thomas who posted a 17 point-15 rebound double-double.

Next up, the Bobcats will take on Dayton in the loser's bracket of the Gildan Charleston Classic tomorrow.

Going up against a receiving votes Dayton (2-1) team in the second game of the Gildan Charleston Classic, the Bobcats (1-2) didn't have much luck, falling to the Flyers 79-65. Jordan Dartis led OU with 19 points, followed by Gavin Block with 14 and Teyvion Kirk with 12 points. Darrell Davis led the Flyers, and all scorers, with 25 points.

On Sunday, the Bobcats will wrap up the Gildan Charleston Classic against a very good Indiana State team at 1pm.

What. A. Game. At halftime, the Bobcats (2-2) trailed Indiana State (1-3) by 16 points, then in the second half, they came all the way back to tie it up in regulation. Then, overtime here we come, it didn't take one, not two, not even three, it took four overtimes for OU to eventually take the win 96-94. Mike Laster led all scorers with 25 points, followed by Jordan Dartis with 21 points and Teyvon Kirk with 20 points. Devin Thomas led Indiana State's effort with 17 points on the night.

Next up for the Bobcats, they will host Mount St. Mary's on this coming Friday night.

Taking in Friday night's game myself in the Convo, I witnessed Ohio (3-2) absolutely dominate Mt. St. Mary's (2-4) by a final score of 96-77. The Bobcats ran out of this one quick, draining threes and driving to the basket early, and before you knew it, they were up by 20 in the first half. "The Mount" was only able to close the gap by one point in the second half, and the Bobcats just kept rolling on. Teyvion Kirk and Mike Laster both led the Bobcats with 20 points each and Doug Taylor added a 14 point-11 rebound double-double. For MSM's, Junior Robinson led all scorers with 21 points.

Next up for OU, they will host Iona on Tuesday.

A frustrating beginning to the season continues, as Ohio (3-3) dropped a high scoring affair to Iona (2-4) at home, 93-88. For the Bobcats, Mike Laster led all scorers with 23 points, followed by Gavin Block with 18 points. For Iona, EJ Crawford tossed in 20 points, to go along with TK Edogi's 20 point and 12 rebound double-double for the victors. A tied game at the half, the Gaels were able to gain the slight advantage in the second half to seal the win.

Next up for OU, they will host Coppin State on Friday.

Last night, Ohio (4-3) got back in the win column, in a game where they were never even remotely challenged, leading the game from start to finish, defeating Coppin State (0-7) of the MEAC, 80-37. The Bobcats' Mike Laster led all scorers with 18 points, followed by Kevin Mickle with 15 points. The visitors were led by Adam Traore and Karonn Davis who scored 8 points each.

OU's next matchup is a big one, where they will play at Maryland on Thursday.

The Bobcats (4-4) got back in action tonight, as they traveled to College Park to take on Maryland (8-3). This was a game that OU was outmatched the whole way, as the Terrapins got the win, 87-62. Although the Bobcats got ambushed in this game, Mike Laster had a decent game for Ohio, dropping in 14 points as the only Bobcat in double figures. Leading Maryland in the game was Kevin Huerter, who scored a team and game high 17 points for the home team.

The Bobcats will look to get back into the win column on Sunday when they host Western Kentucky.

Ohio (5-4) took the victory on Sunday afternoon at home against Western Kentucky (6-3) by a final score of 89-84. The Bobcats held a large lead about half way into the second half, but the Hilltoppers chipped away at that lead, fortunately for the Bobcats, they were able to hold on for the important non-conference victory.

Mike Laster once again led the Bobcats in scoring and also had a game high 23 points. Following him was Kevin Mickle and Teyvion Kirk who each scored 17 for OU. Taveion Hollingsworth led Western Kentucky in scoring with 19, and Justin Johnson posted a 16 point and 13 rebound double-double.

The Next matchup for the Bobcats will be on Saturday when they take on non-conference rival Marshall in Huntington.

The Bobcats (5-5) traveled to Huntington, WV on Saturday night to take on former conference opponent and rival Marshall (8-3), and ultimately came home with a high scoring 99-96 overtime loss to the Thundering Herd. Jordan Dartis had a top notch night for the Bobcats, going for 27 points, Kevin Mickle added 19 and Teyvion Kirk came out of the loss with 18. For Marshall, two players did much of the scoring, as Ajdin Penava led all scorers and rebounders with a 33 point and 14 rebound double double. Following him was CJ Burks who poured in 31 points, then Jon Elmore added a 20 point and 10 rebound double-double.

OU's next game will be Wednesday when they host Prairie View A&M.

It took awhile for them to get going, but when they did, it ended up being a blowout for the Bobcats (6-5), as they used a second half push to defeat Prairie View A&M (2-10), by a final score of 84-65. At the half time break, Ohio trailed Prairie View 31-29, then, in the second half, the Bobcats exploded to outscore the Panthers by 21 in the final stanza.

Jordan Dartis yet again led the Bobcats in scoring with 23, followed by James Gollon with 17 and Teyvion Kirk, Kevin Mickle and Gavin Block each chipped in 14 in the winning effort. Leading Prairie View and all players in scoring was Gary Blackston, pouring in 24 points.

The Bobcats are now off until next Friday when they host a smaller opponent in Northwestern Ohio.

Ohio (7-5) barely pulled out a win over Northwestern Ohio (8-9), an average NAIA D2 team AT BEST, by a final score of 65-58 in Athens. I feel as though this was a game that OU had nothing to gain and everything to lose, even though they won.

For the Bobcats, Kevin Mickle led all scorers with 15 points, followed by Teyvion Kirk with 14 points (14 rebounds) and Mike Laster dumped in 12 points. NW Ohio's leading scorer was Nathan Bradley with 13 points.

OU's next game will be on Tuesday when they open up MAC play as they travel to Central Michigan.

Last night, the Bobcats (7-6) opened up MAC play on the road at Central Michigan, losing to the very good Chippewas (12-2) 75-50. Only two Ohio players crossed into double digits on the scoreboard, where Mike Laster led the team with 19 points, followed by Teyvion Kirk with 13. David DiLeo led the strong performance for CMU with 22 points, followed by Cecil Williams with 15 points.

The Bobcats will look to regroup as they host Northern Illinois on Saturday.

Ohio (8-6) got back on track this afternoon, as they hosted Northern Illinois (8-7) and defeated the Huskies 78-68. The Bobcats led by 14 at the half time break, although they lost the 2nd half by 4, they had such a nice lead going into halftime that it didn't matter and they pulled out the win by 10 points.

Mike Laster had a monster game for OU as he led all scorers with 31 points. The only Bobcat in double figures was Teyvion Kirk who poured in 16 points on the game. Eugene German and Dante Thorpe both led NIU with 15 points each in the game.

The next game that OU will play will be on Tuesday when they host MAC rival Ball State.

In a very fun game to watch, the Bobcats (8-7) fell to MAC favorites Ball State (11-5) in Athens last night, 75-68. Although the Bobcats led by 2 at the halftime break, Ball State recorded a great second half to take the lead and the win.

Teyvion Kirk led OU and all scorers on the night with 17 points. Followed by Mike Laster and Jordan Dartis with 13 points each. Two players led Ball State in scoring with 16 points each were Trey Moses (also 11 rebounds) and Tayler Persons.

The next game for Ohio is on Friday when they travel to Kent State.

For most of the game, the Bobcats (8-8) trailed in this one, but made it close late in the game, but only to see Kent State (8-9) pull out the victory by a final score of 70-69.

The next game for OU will be on Tuesday when they host MAC rival Toledo.

For the fourth time in five games, the Bobcats (8-9) fell to a MAC opponent, this time to Toledo (12-6) last night in Athens, 91-57. OU struggled to get things going all night, as they got absolutely smashed from the halfway point of the first period on. The Bobcats were led by a 15 point performance from Doug Taylor and 10 points from Teyvion Kirk.

The Rockets had a very balanced scoring attack: Tre'Shaun Fletcher (18), Jaelan Sanford and Nate Navigato each scored 16 and Willie Jackson rounded out the double digit scoring with 14 points.

The Bobcats will look to get back on track when they travel to Eastern Michigan in Saturday.

Jordan Dartis led the Bobcats and all scorers with 24 points. Mike Laster dropped in 16 and Teyvion Kirk scored 12 to round out the double digit scoring for OU.

Eastern Michigan was led by a strong performance from James Thompson IV, who etched a double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds.
