The Ohio State Buckeyes are in a curious situation this year under first year head coach Chris Holtmann, the former coach of Butler. Holtmann brings in former Buckeye star Scoonie Penn as the Director of Player Development. The Buckeyes bring back some key players in Micah Potter (So), Jae'Sean Tate (Sr), CJ Jackson (Jr), Kam Williams (Sr), Andre Wesson (So), Keita Bates-Diop (Jr; Missed all of last year). With the addition of three top 30 prospects in Musa Jallow (Bloomington, IN), Kyle Young (Massillon, OH) and Kaleb Wesson (Westerville, OH) as well as graduate transfer Andrew Dakich from Michigan. Depending on how these players develop from last year, the Buckeyes have the opportunity to surprise some people this year.

But, a few tough non-conference games await them as they will play Gonzaga (Preseason #18), either Stanford or Florida (Preseason #8), North Carolina (Preseason #9) as well as some very solid mid-major teams.

Ohio State defeated Wooster today in their only exhibition 88-63 and will open up their season on Friday as they host Robert Morris.

2017-2018 under Coach Holtmann will be about changing the culture surrounding the Ohio State basketball program. I think fans will be pleasantly surprised with the team's record, but do not expect challenging for a conference crown or NCAA bid.

Ohio State (1-0) opened up their season at home tonight against Robert Morris (0-1), and it was the Buckeyes all the way. They were up 20 at the half, and by the end of the game, the Buckeyes claimed victory by 31, a final score of 95-64. Coach Holtmann showed that his team would be a fast moving, running team on offense, which is a refreshing feel watching OSU basketball.

Keita Bates-Diop led the Buckeyes with a 19 point-11 rebound performance, where he also added 2 blocks, in his first game in a long time. Kam Williams dropped in 16 points, Kaleb Wesson with 13 points and freshman Musa Jallow with 11 points. For the Colonials, Koby Thomas and Matty McConnelll each added 22 points.

Ohio State's next game will be when they host Radford at 2:30 on Sunday afternoon.

The Buckeyes (2-0) recorded their second win to open up the Chris Holtmann era, today it was over Radford (1-1), 82-72. Many people will look at the score any not be very impressed, Radford came down and hit 4 consecutive contested three-pointers in the last minute and a half of the game, to make the final score way closer than the game actually was.

For the second time in as many games, Keita Bates-Diop posted a double double for the Buckeyes, with a 22 point and 10 rebound performance. Jae'Sean Tate was also a solid performer for OSU posting a 13 point-10 rebound double-double. Carlik Jones led Radford in the game with 19 points.

OSU is now off until Thursday when they face Texas Southern in Columbus.

LCF already did the run down for this game in another thread, so I'll just post the basics in this one.

Ohio State (3-0) beat Texas Southern (0-3) tonight in Columbus, 82-64.

Next up for the Buckeyes is the PK80 Invitational, as they open up play and host Northeastern on Sunday afternoon.

Dominant win today for the Buckeyes. Ohio State (4-0) defeated Northeastern (2-2) 80-55. Jae'Sean Tate had the night's top performance, scoring 24 points, followed by Keita Bates-Diop with 19 points and Kaleb Wesson with 12 points on the night. Leading Northeastern with 16 points was Donnell Gresham.

Next up for the Buckeyes, they travel to Portland to compete in the PK80 Invitational where they will take on #17 Gonzaga on Thanksgiving night at midnight.

It's been an interesting couple of days for the Buckeyes, I'll recap both games in this post.

On Thanksgiving night, Ohio State (4-1) was absolutely dominated by #17 Gonzaga (4-0), 86-59. In this game, the Buckeyes were led by Jae'Sean Tate and CJ Jackson who scored 12 points a piece, in a game where this team was simply over matched. Leading the Bulldogs of Gonzaga was Jonathan Williams who led all scorers with 21 points on the game.

Then, after the disappointing performance on Christmas, the Ohio State (5-1) took to the court once again for the second time in less than 24 hours, this time successfully, defeating Stanford (3-4) 79-71. Although Stanford isn't the team they used to be, by the end of the year this will be a quality neutral floor win for OSU. Point Guard CJ Jackson led all scorers in this one for the Buckeyes, scoring 23 points. For Stanford, it was Daejon Davis leading the Cardinal with 15 points.

Next up, the Buckeyes will face-off against Butler on Sunday at noon to finish out the PK80 tournament.

Consistency. I think that's the key word for this Buckeye team. They have stretches where they look great, then stretches where they look terrible. I think by the end of the season, we'll see Jallow and K. Wesson vastly improved, which will help. It'll be interesting to see how much run Young can get by the end of the year. KBD needs to take control of this team every game. He's an NBA caliber guy. A. Wesson needs to be at the end of the bench. Potter and Williams have been pretty disappointing so far, imho.

The Buckeyes (5-2) wrapped up the PK80 Invite in Portland on Sunday, losing to Butler (5-2) 67-66 in overtime in a thriller. The Buckeyes led the game by 3 after the first half, then a scoring outburst in the second half saw the Bulldogs tie it up. A layup by Butler's Kelan Martin with 15 seconds remaining gave them the permanent lead.

CJ Jackson led the Buckeyes with 19 points and Keita Bates-Diop produced a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Kelan Martin had a big game for Butler, leading all scorers with 24 points.

Next up for OSU is the ACC/Big Ten Challenge where they will face off with Clemson in Columbus.

Like I said, consistency. This Buckeye team has a LONG way to go. They can't even be consistent for a half of basketball right now. I guess when guys like Andrew Dakich and Andre Wesson are getting 15-20 minutes a game, you're going to have that.

For the second time in as many games, the Buckeyes (5-3) fell, this time it was a little more out of reach as they lost to Clemson (6-1) in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, 79-65. At the halftime break, OSU led by 7, then the second half was all Clemson, as they took the lead and then some. The Buckeyes were led again by Keita Bates-Diop who poured in 21 points. The Tigers were led by Marcquise Reed, who led all scorers with 22 points.

The next game for the Buckeyes will be on Saturday when they travel to Madison to take on a scrappy Wisconsin team to open up league play.

This team is terrible. I know they aren't terribly talented, but it's like they've never been taught the fundamentals of basketball.

Dakich sure was going out of his way not to show any bias towards the Bucks. Lots of criticism for his son's team!

Domination is the key word for the Buckeyes today, as they destroyed Wisconsin in Madison 83-58, for a huge road victory to open conference play. After the first few minutes of the game, this one was never in doubt as OSU's shooting was on point all night. Leading the Buckeyes and all scorers was Kaleb Wesson with 19 points, followed by a 17 point-11 rebound double-double by Keita Bates-Diop. Brad Davison led the Badgers in scoring with 16 points.

Next up, the Buckeyes will host rival Michigan on Monday at 6:30.

Didn't get to watch it, but man was that fun to follow! I feel like they are going to be able to hang with a lot of teams this year, even if they lose a good bit. KBD and Kaleb Wesson should be a really fun combo for the next couple of seasons.

The Buckeyes (7-3), got yet another win to open their conference slate, this time over rival Michigan (7-3) in Columbus, 71-62. This game looks like it might have been all OSU, but that wasn't the case. The Wolverines opened up a can on the Buckeyes for the first fifteen minutes of the game, opening up a 20 point lead for themselves. But, OSU never wavered, and put forth a glorious run to end the first half, and the first five minutes of the second half to take the lead.

From there, the game went back and forth a little bit, until Ohio State had one more surge in them to get over the hurdle and earn the victory, to move to 2-0 in Big Ten play.

Keita Bates-Diop lead all scorers in the game with 18 points, something we've grown used to seeing from him in the Buckeye uniform this season. CJ Jackson also dropped in 17 points for the Ohio State, while Jae'Sean Tate poured in 14, including starting the surge for the Buckeye team late in the first half. Moritz Wager led Michigan, with a 14 point performance.

Next up for OSU, they will continue non-conference play when they host William & Mary on Saturday.

Kyle Young played a great game for the Buckeyes! Nice to see the Freshman play well. He's going to be a guy that Buckeye fans love.

After opening up B1G play with 2 wins, the Buckeyes (8-3) got back to a little non-conference play today, by dominating William & Mary (6-3) 97-62 in Columbus. OSU wasted no time in this one, after getting some confidence back with two conference wins, the Buckeyes lead at halftime by 16.

Keita Bates-Diop not only scored a team high and game high, but also a career high with 27 points. The big man in the middle, Kaleb Wesson, also dropped in 17 points.

Leading the Tribe was David Cohn who dropped in a team high 15 points.

Next up for OSU, they'll look to continue their roll of wins, as they host Appalachian State next Saturday.

Seems Holtman is starting to figure some things out. KBD is being assertive, and K. Wesson is finding his way. If nothing else, this team has become pretty enjoyable to watch, for the first time in years. Would really like to have the 2nd halves of those Butler and Clemson games back. This team should be 10-1 right now, and most likely going into the NC game at 12-1. I like what I'm seeing.

Things will get tougher for the Buckeyes but Holtmann has had a great start to his tenure. Wins are nice but turning around the Ohio State basketball culture is still job one.
