The two-time defending national champions and #1 ranked Buckeyes opened up their season tonight by hosting North Greenville and cruised to victory, 3-0 (25-13; 25-18; 25-21) on opening night.

OSU will have a challenging weekend next week, as they host Stanford and BYU on Friday and Saturday.

In their second match of the season, the Buckeyes hosted Stanford last night, and rolled to another victory by a final of 3-1 (25-18; 25-22; 22-25; 25-23).

They get back into action tonight as they host BYU in a rematch of last year's national championship match.

For the first time since March 28th of last season, and the fourth time in nearly two full calendar years, the Buckeyes dropped a match, and the first home loss since March 11th last season. It was against a hungry, 6th ranked BYU team, as the Buckeyes fell 3-2 (25-21; 21-25; 20-25; 25-21; 8-15) in 5 tough sets.

Why was BYU so hungry, you ask? Well, Ohio State and BYU have faced off against each other in the last two national championship matches, and the Buckeyes won both of them easily, so the Cougars wanted a little payback, and they got it.

The Buckeyes next two matches aren't much easier, as they will travel to Los Angeles next weekend to take on #12 USC (Thursday) and #3 UCLA (Saturday) in the Big Ten/Pac-12 Challenge.

For the first time in what seems like a century, the Buckeyes fell out of the #1 spot in the weekly rankings, falling to #3, trailing Long Beach State and UCLA.

Ohio State got back in the win column this evening in Los Angeles, defeating #13 USC 3-1 (25-16; 25-20; 20-25; 25-21) in a neutral site matchup. This one seemed to be in the Buckeyes favor from the opening.

Next up for the Buckeyes will be a matchup with #2 UCLA on their home turf on Saturday

For already the second time early in the season, the Buckeyes fell to another top 10 team, in #2 UCLA in Los Angeles 3-2 (18-25; 25-22; 25-27; 26-24; 14-16) in what might have been one of the most exciting volleyball matches of the season so far. That loss total equals the Buckeyes total number of losses of the entire season last year.

Next up for the Buckeyes will be when they host St. Francis (PA) this coming Thursday.

In a match where the Buckeyes were desperate to get back to their dominant winning ways, they were able to do just that as they defeated Saint Francis (PA) 3-0 (25-23; 25-21; 25-21) in front of their home crowd. This year's version of the Buckeyes may not be as flat out dominant as the last two teams, but they showed that they are still up to the task of defending their title.

The next match for OSU will be on Sunday when they host Penn State.

The Buckeyes cruised to another victory, this time against a top ten opponent against #8 Penn State 3-0 (25-19; 25-15; 25-17). Allowing only 51 total points, this was a very good and dominant victory.

Next up, OSU will travel to Charleston on Friday.

For the third consecutive match, the Buckeyes earned a clean sweep over another opponent, as they defeated Charleston 3-0 (25-17; 25-9; 25-23). Previously Charleston was undefeated and that shows that Ohio State is on a roll. After OSU dropped to #5 after last week, and are trying to prove that they are still the same dominant program as they have been the last couple of years.

Next up, the Buckeyes travel to George Mason tonight at 7.

For a fourth consecutive match, the Buckeyes earned a clean sweep, defeating George Mason on the road, 3-0 (25-16; 26-24; 25-18). Ohio State is now starting to play well, albeit against unranked opponents.

Next up, OSU will begin MIVA Conference play, as they host Ball State on Thursday and Fort Wayne on Saturday.

The Buckeyes earned a hard fought MIVA conference victory tonight over visiting Ball State 3-2 (21-25; 25-13; 18-25; 27-25; 15-10), for their fifth consecutive victory. Although Ball State is not a ranked opponent (rankings only go to top 15), if you go by receiving votes as well, they are ranked 16th.

OSU will continue MIVA action as they host Fort Wayne on Saturday.

Today was another dominant victory for the Buckeyes, as they swept a conference opponent in #14 Fort Wayne 3-0 (25-23; 25-19; 25-14). Now that they are in MIVA play, OSU is playing very well.

Next up for Ohio State, they host Lindenwood on Thursday.

Ohio State swept another MIVA Conference opponent tonight, as they defeated Lindenwood 3-0 (25-19; 25-20; 26-24), in a match where the sets weren't all that close until the last one.

On Saturday, OSU will host their last home match until the end of March, as they host another conference foe on Saturday in Quincy.

Another conference sweep for the Buckeyes, as they swept Quincy today 3-0 (25-22; 25-15; 25-15). The only set that was even close was the first one, as OSU continues their dominance over the MIVA, year-in and year-out.

Ohio State will now continue their long streak of away matches, starting on Thursday when they travel to Lewis.

For the first time in over 2 years, the Buckeyes dropped a MIVA Conference match, and it was on the road at #9 Lewis 3-0 (18-25; 22-25; 23-25) in close sets.

Before this match, OSU had won 38 consecutive MIVA matches dating back to Feb. 6, 2016. The Buckeyes were also riding an eight match win streak before Thursday.

Ohio State continues their road swing on Saturday at Loyola.

For a second straight conference match, the Buckeyes fell on the road to #8 Loyola-Chicago, 3-2 (25-20; 25-15; 21-25; 23-25; 15-17). For the first time in years, Ohio State has lost two consecutive matches.

Next weekend is what is up next for OSU, as they travel to McKendree to play two matches, one on Friday and one on Saturday.

Continuing their long road tilt, the Buckeyes got back in the win column, this time at McKendree, winning 3-1 (24-26; 25-15; 25-23; 25-12).

Ohio State will play yet again at McKendree today.

Ohio State earned a sweep of host McKendree over the weekend, winning today 3-0 (25-20; 25-19; 25-19). Although it wasn't against the very best competition, hopefully that will give the Buckeyes some momentum for the rest of the season.

Next up for OSU is a match at Penn State on Friday and at St. Francis (PA) on Saturday.
