The Lady Buckeyes kicked off their season today in Boca Raton at the FAU "First Pitch" Classic, by sweeping their opening day.

In their first game against Northern Illinois, it took OSU just 6 innings to claim a 9-1 victory. Emily Clark drove in 3 runs (3-for-4), Ashley Goodwin (1-for-2) drove in 3 runs, and Lilli Piper drove in the other Buckeye run. NIU took the early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Piper for OSU tied the game at 1 a piece with an RBI single in the 3rd inning. With the bases loaded in the third, Goodwin smoked a double that cleared the bases and gave the Buckeyes a 4-1 lead. Then, just one inning later, Clark came up with the bases loaded and blasted a grand slam for the 8-1 lead. Clark would then double and drive in the final run of the game in the 6th inning.

Shelby McCombs took the win in the circle, going the distance of 6 innings, allowing just 1 run (0 earned) on just 2 hits, while also collecting 6 strikeouts. Alex Frenz took the loss for NIU, lasting just 2.1 innings and allowing 4 runs (all earned).

In the second game, Ohio State would then handle Duke by a final score of 5-2. Piper yet again was a leader for the Scarlet and Gray, as she drove in three runs (2-for-4), followed by Carver driving in the only other earned run. Carver started out the scoring for OSU, driving in a run on a sac fly in the 1st. Duke then countered that in the bottom of the first by scoring two, to take a 2-1 lead, and that was the last and only time the Blue Devils would score. Piper helped OSU take the lead in the 3rd with a 2 RBI double, a sac bunt in the 4th tacked on one more, and Piper added on the final run of the game when she grounded out to allow a run to score.

Morgan Ray went the whole game for the Buckeyes on the mound (7 innings), allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, while tallying 7 strikeouts. Peyton St. George was tagged with the loss for Duke, going 3 innings, allowing 3 earned runs.

The Buckeyes continue play tomorrow when they play against host, Florida Atlantic (6pm) and then take on NIU again (8:15pm).

The Buckeyes opened up their series in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge in Raleigh, by falling to NC State in an 8 inning thriller, 5-4. The Buckeyes opened up the game in the first inning on a two run blast by Lilli Piper. Throughout the game, OSU eventually got behind, 4-2, before a two run homer by Nike Carver to tie it up in the 7th, which took it to extras.

Unfortunately for Ohio State, they ultimately lost the game in the bottom of the 8th on an obstruction call at home plate.

They will continue the ACC/Big Ten Challenge tomorrow as they play against both Louisville and NC State.

Game one of their weekend at the Texas Invitational against Virginia Tech was postponed due to weather. But, the diamond was prepared just in time for OSU's game against Wichita State. The Shockers jumped out to a lead of 3-0, until Shelby McCombs blasted a two run shot in the 4th, and Lilli Piper hit a walk-off two run homer in the bottom of the 9th.

The Buckeyes weekend was switched around a little bit due to weather in Indiana, as their 3-game series at Indiana switched to a double header on Friday and a single game on Sunday. The Hoosiers shocked the Buckeyes in a double header on Friday, in two near blow out wins, as OSU lost the first game 6-0 and the second game 9-3.

They will wrap up their series on Sunday at Indiana at 1pm.

Lilli Piper scored the only run for OSU, as she blasted a solo home run in the first inning. Morgan Ray went the distance for the Buckeyes in the circle, pitching 6 innings. Although she gave up 4 runs, only 1 of those was earned.

Waiting on 4/11 VS PSU in Columbus. What's PSU's record now? Not too promising the last I seen. OSU with the edge and take both games, IMO.
