The Buckeyes season began on Friday night, as they hosted their own invitational that will go through Saturday. They started it off with a bang as they defeated Albany 3-1 (25-17; 21-25; 25-16; 25-13). The only push back they got from visiting Albany was in the second set, and the rest of the match was, for the most part, easy sailing.

Lauren Witte led all scorers with 20.5 points, followed for the Buckeyes by Vanja Bukilic with 15 of her own. Olivia Dailey also tacked on 50 assists.

OSU will continue their season on Saturday as they host both Ohio and Texas A&M.

It was a great opening weekend for the Buckeyes, as they finished the Koehl Classic as undefeated champions. After their season opening win on Friday, they didn't have too much trouble with their Saturday opponents. They kicked Saturday off against Ohio with a 3-0 (25-14; 25-22; 25-11) victory. Lauren Witte led OSU with 15 points, followed by Vanja Bukilic with 11.5 points. Olivia Dailey also led the Buckeyes in assists with 36.

The second game had the same outcome, as OSU defeated Texas A&M 3-0 (25-19; 25-16; 25-20). Mia Grunze led the Buckeyes in this one with 16 points, followed by Adria Powell with 13.5 and Lauren Witte with 12.5. Olivia Dailey led the team in assists again with 35.

Ohio State will get back in action next weekend as they travel to the Rebel Invitational in Oxford, Mississippi. They will play Southern Miss and Ole Miss on Friday, and will play Samford on Saturday.

It was a thriller in the weekend opener at the Rebel Invitational hosted by Ole Miss, as the Buckeyes finally dispatched of Southern Miss 3-2 (21-25; 25-20; 23-25; 27-25; 15-9). OSU went down early as Southern Miss took the first set, and then went down early in the second before finally taking control and earning the point. The next three sets were as tight as the Buckeyes could handle, but ultimately earned the win.

The ladies got off to a good start today in Towson, as they defeated Missouri 3-1 (21-25; 25-22; 25-18; 25-20). Although almost all the sets were close, the only real struggle the Buckeyes had was getting a win, then they were off to the races against the Tigers. Jordan Fry led the Buckeyes with 14.5 points, followed by Vanja Bukilic with 14 and Lauren Witte with 13.5. Becca Mauer tallied 39 assists to lead the way. In addition to leading in points, Fry also led in blocks with 4.

OSU's sophomore defensive specialist, Hannah Gruensfelder, has been named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, for this previous week. This past weekend, the Buckeyes went 3-0 at the Towson Invitational, losing only one set the entire weekend.

This coming weekend, they will travel to Dayton, for their last invitational of the season before beginning conference play.

The Buckeyes ended Saturday evening in the Flyer Invitational in Dayton on a sour note, as they fell to host Dayton 3-2 (25-18; 22-25; 25-20; 15-25; 16-14) in a hard fought match, where the Flyers were pesky and never gave up. Vanja Bukilic had a huge match for OSU as she amassed 20.5 points. Olivia Dailey had another good match, tallying 37 assists.

Ohio State will begin Big Ten play on Wednesday as they travel to Wisconsin.

The road doesn't get any easier the rest of the season for OSU, as they will face-off against Big Ten foes, the best conference in the nation in volleyball. And it showed on Wednesday night, as the Buckeyes traveled to Madison, and fell to #6 Wisconsin 3-0 (25-19; 25-17; 25-15), where they were virtually wiped off the floor.

Mia Grunze was the Buckeyes leading scorer with 10 points. Wisconsin had a steady scoring attack with three players in double digits, with Dana Rettke leading the way with 15.5. Olivia Dailey had a decent match for OSU, tallying 20 assists.

Ohio State will get back into action on Sunday, when they face another extremely tough match against #4 Penn State in Columbus.

The Buckeyes were able to pull off a huge upset this afternoon in Columbus, as they knocked off #4 Penn State 3-1 (16-25; 25-20; 33-31; 25-23). It took a team effort in this one, as OSU had three players score in double digits, led by Mia Grunze with 15 points. Becca Mauer threw in a solid match with 39 assists.

The first set was nearly all Penn State, the second and fourth were nearly all OSU, despite the close scores. That third match was a huge momentum swing for whoever was to win it. The third set included 23 ties and 8 lead changes.

Next up, Ohio State will host Indiana on Wednesday.

It was just another normal night in the Big Ten conference in women's volleyball, as the Buckeyes fell in Columbus to a solid Indiana team 3-1 (21-25; 25-18; 25-20; 25-8). The first three sets were all fantastic, although the Buckeyes won only one of those first three, they were all close. The fourth and final set is where the Hoosiers just slammed the door shut, only allowing OSU 8 points in the set.

Ohio State had a balanced scoring attack on the night, with 4 players hitting double digits, led by Madison Smeathers' 12.5. Becca Mauer had another effective game, notching 30 assists.

It appears as though that was a trap game, as the Buckeyes had just come off two straight matches against top 6 teams, and defeating #4 Penn State their last time out. Next up, the Buckeyes will travel to Maryland to try to get back on track on Saturday.

It turned out to be a long night in College Park for the Buckeyes and Terrapins, as they went the full five sets. Ohio State ultimately lost 3-2 (22-25; 22-25; 25-15; 25-22; 15-17). OSU went down 2-0 after the first two sets, before storming back to win the next two, which both ended up being close. Then, the final set went into extra points, as Maryland ultimately won that set and the match.

Vanja Bukilic had a huge game for OSU, scoring 19.5 points. Becca Mauer also had a good match, tallying 48 assists.

Next up, the Buckeyes will travel to Rutgers on Friday and Penn State on Saturday.

The Buckeyes got back on track Friday night, defeating Rutgers in 5 sets, 3-2 (18-25; 25-19; 23-25; 25-18; 15-9). After going down 2-1, OSU rallied back to win the match. The sets they did win came with relative ease, their problem on this night was consistency, as has been the case for most of the season. OSU had a balanced attack on offense, led by Laruen Witte's 19 points and Becca Mauer's 39 assists.

Now that they've gotten back in the win column, Saturday will be a much tougher test, as they face #9 Penn State.

The party for OSU's Friday night victory at Rutgers didn't last long, as they traveled to #9 Penn State and were handled easily, 3-0 (13-25; 22-25; 22-25). Bia Franklin led the Buckeyes in scoring for the first time with 13 points. Olivia Dailey tallied 25 assists.

The Buckeyes had a very balanced scoring attack, with 5 players in double digits in scoring, led by Jordan Fry with 16.5 points and an enormous 57 assists from Becca Mauer.

A disappointing end to Friday night was the result in Bloomington, as OSU fell to Indiana 3-0 (15-25; 19-25; 22-25). The Buckeyes were really only close to the Hoosiers in the third set, as Indiana was able to cruise for most of the night. OSU was led by Vanja Bukilic on the offensive end, and led by Becca Mauer's 36 assists.

Ohio State travels to Purdue on Sunday to wrap up their road trip through the Hoosier State.

It was another sad night in the Hoosier state for the Buckeyes, as they fell to #17 Purdue on Sunday, 3-0 (17-25; 22-25; 13-25). It was a night where OSU was outmatched in nearly every way, as the scoreboard showed. OSU was led by a 10 point performance by Bia Franklin, and once again led in assists by Becca Mauer with 24.

Ohio State will now return home to face a top ten team in Nebraska on Wednesday in Columbus.
