The Buckeyes season began on Friday night, as they hosted their own invitational that will go through Saturday. They started it off with a bang as they defeated Albany 3-1 (25-17; 21-25; 25-16; 25-13). The only push back they got from visiting Albany was in the second set, and the rest of the match was, for the most part, easy sailing.

Lauren Witte led all scorers with 20.5 points, followed for the Buckeyes by Vanja Bukilic with 15 of her own. Olivia Dailey also tacked on 50 assists.

OSU will continue their season on Saturday as they host both Ohio and Texas A&M.

The road doesn't get any easier the rest of the season for OSU, as they will face-off against Big Ten foes, the best conference in the nation in volleyball. And it showed on Wednesday night, as the Buckeyes traveled to Madison, and fell to #6 Wisconsin 3-0 (25-19; 25-17; 25-15), where they were virtually wiped off the floor.

Mia Grunze was the Buckeyes leading scorer with 10 points. Wisconsin had a steady scoring attack with three players in double digits, with Dana Rettke leading the way with 15.5. Olivia Dailey had a decent match for OSU, tallying 20 assists.

Ohio State will get back into action on Sunday, when they face another extremely tough match against #4 Penn State in Columbus.

The Buckeyes were able to pull off a huge upset this afternoon in Columbus, as they knocked off #4 Penn State 3-1 (16-25; 25-20; 33-31; 25-23). It took a team effort in this one, as OSU had three players score in double digits, led by Mia Grunze with 15 points. Becca Mauer threw in a solid match with 39 assists.

The first set was nearly all Penn State, the second and fourth were nearly all OSU, despite the close scores. That third match was a huge momentum swing for whoever was to win it. The third set included 23 ties and 8 lead changes.

Next up, Ohio State will host Indiana on Wednesday.

It was just another normal night in the Big Ten conference in women's volleyball, as the Buckeyes fell in Columbus to a solid Indiana team 3-1 (21-25; 25-18; 25-20; 25-8). The first three sets were all fantastic, although the Buckeyes won only one of those first three, they were all close. The fourth and final set is where the Hoosiers just slammed the door shut, only allowing OSU 8 points in the set.

Ohio State had a balanced scoring attack on the night, with 4 players hitting double digits, led by Madison Smeathers' 12.5. Becca Mauer had another effective game, notching 30 assists.

It appears as though that was a trap game, as the Buckeyes had just come off two straight matches against top 6 teams, and defeating #4 Penn State their last time out. Next up, the Buckeyes will travel to Maryland to try to get back on track on Saturday.

It turned out to be a long night in College Park for the Buckeyes and Terrapins, as they went the full five sets. Ohio State ultimately lost 3-2 (22-25; 22-25; 25-15; 25-22; 15-17). OSU went down 2-0 after the first two sets, before storming back to win the next two, which both ended up being close. Then, the final set went into extra points, as Maryland ultimately won that set and the match.

Vanja Bukilic had a huge game for OSU, scoring 19.5 points. Becca Mauer also had a good match, tallying 48 assists.

Next up, the Buckeyes will travel to Rutgers on Friday and Penn State on Saturday.
