Crazy College Football Scenarios...

Post by Valenth »

I've been looking at all the Possibilities of what the final CFB playoff picture could look like... Here's some thoughts...

We could go all the way from 4 Power 5 Conferences represented all the way down to just 2.

The PAC12 is Likely out. Unless total utter chaos occurs.

I believe a 1 loss BIG XII Champion would be picked over a 1 loss ACC Champion (if that happens)

Let's hope we see USF and Cincinnati continue to win. Because if UCF defeats them if they're ranked it might help get some quality wins on the schedule. And it could help a Group of 5 team get a shot.

The ACC is very weak this year. If Clemson loses they might be out of the playoff.

I think a 1 loss Georgia would still make playoffs if the loss is in the SEC Championship.

Another issue for Notre Dame is. They don't have that 13th game (Conference Championship Game) to give them that extra push.

I don't ever think 2 teams from the same conference should be in the final 4. I remember the game when #1 ohio state played #2 Michigan in 2006. osu won a thriller 42-39. everybody said let them play again for it all. the secespnc threw a fit. said what I'm saying that should never, ever happen. since the the sec has done it twice. there are too many teams from too many conferences to keep that from ever happening again, if so we should go to a 16 team format like the fcs, to determine a real champion without controversy.

Midway through the season the E$PN top twenty teams have a total of only eleven losses. You could come up with scenarios for each of those teams to make the CFPs. That is what makes college football a more interesting game than the NFL. That said, given the precedent of non conference champs beings selected, Alabama and or Georgia coupled with an undefeated Notre Dame, could mean the ACC, Big 10(14), Big 12 and PAC 12 could be fighting for one playoff spot. The Domer's schedule is suspect and they will not have benefit of a CCG, but I doubt the committee would keep them out if in fact they finish with 12 wins.

An undefeated Big Ten Champion will not be left out - it is however the only way a Big Ten team gets in.
SEC Champ is in regardless of how many losses, lol.
Clemson is in by going undefeated...
Big 12 Champion could be in if they have only 1 loss.
Notre Dame will make it if they are undefeated and some of these other conference Champions have losses they shouldn’t.

ACC and PAC12 are weak....

Tenn gives #21 Auburn their 3rd loss
#13 LSU beats #2 Georgia (at LSU)
#17 Oregon beats #7 Washington (at Oregon)
Iowa St beats #6 West Virginia (at Iowa St)

#15 Wisconsin plays at #12 Michigan
Not sure which one winning benefits OSU - they both have a loss - maybe playing a one loss Wisconsin team in the BIG Ten Championship would be best. Of course Wisconsin has Penn State to play as well. Hate for them to beat Michigan and lose to Penn State and have two losses coming in to the Big Ten Title game. If they lose to both then who knows who wins the West.

WVU losing to Iowa St and then WVU beating OK benefits the current top 5 teams.

Wisconsin and Penn St both beating *ichigan benefits tOSU since we dont play Wisky and we already beat Penn St. Since it looks like Wisky is the team coming out of the B1G West, we want them to have only the one loss vs BYU. The conference championship, barring Wisky losing to another west team, goes through them in Indy anyways.

ND, Texas and WVU are the wild cards since I dont see Clemson taking a loss. Can ND go through their schedule unbeaten? Can Texas win the B12 which in turn helps tOSU since they lost to Maryland at home, assuming tOSU takes care of business.

Texas winning the B12 allows a one loss tOSU team to still make it in as long as they beat Wisky in Indy IMO.

A lot of football left to be played. My opinion...
1 SEC Champ
1 1 loss SEC runner up if Bama/UGA
1 undefeated ND
1 Big14 champ OSU undefeated

All the above are the big name schools (money talks)

*** I think Clemson even if undefeated will drop due to their schedule.
*** An undefeated WVU does not have the name to jump any of the above.
*** Undefeated UCF left out again.

Other undefeated teams
USF and UC I don't see being able to move in.
Neither can Colorado or NC State.

I think that covers all the current undefeated teams.
If these teams get knocked off somewhere along the way that could bring 1 loss teams such as Michigan, Wisky, PSU, Texas, Okla, LSU and Washington back into the discussion.

After this weekend, only Bama looks like world beaters although they have not played anyone. You could throw teams 2-20 into a hat and draw for the rankings, which is good for college football.
