MAC Announces Wrestling Expansion for 2019-20

The Mid-American Conference has announced 7 new affiliate members for wrestling beginning in the 2019-20 season. Those new teams include: Bloomsburg, Clarion, Edinboro, Lock Haven, Rider, George Mason and Cleveland State. These teams will join the MAC, coming from the Eastern Wrestling League (EWL). The expansion will bring the conference up to 15 teams, which makes it the second largest wrestling conference in D1.

Those new teams will join current members: Buffalo, Central Michigan, Kent State, Missouri, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Old Dominion and SIU-Edwardsville.

The MAC is pretty big in wrestling. Old Dominion, SIU-Edwardsville and Missouri are affiliate members, which makes the conference really strong. Adding these other schools makes it even stronger.

Bait, I think most of us from SEO have little awareness of scholastic and collegiate wrestling. I have a nephew in SW Ohio who wrestles and I was amazed how big such programs are in parts of Ohio, and by extension in the college ranks. Hate to say it, but the so called minor sports of wrestling, lacrosse, and soccer will make a dent against football in popularity.
