Athens 8th Grade Boys

Post by Coach Skinner »

Athens 8th grade boys went to 4-0 tonight with a convincing home win over previously undefeated Vinton County 46-23, and it wasn't that close as bench players from both teams played major minutes in the second half.

Athens also has wins over Jackson, Wellston, and Logan.
The Bulldogs are coached by Ron Ricketts and he is assisted by Rick Martin and Greg Grimm.

The Bulldogs will be in action again on Thursday when they travel to Gallipolis.

The Vinton Vikings won the seventh grade contest. I do not remember the score. It was close early, and then got blown out as the game progressed.

Athens goes to 7-0 going into the extended Christmas break by defeating a very good Nelsonville York squad tonight at home 38-25.

It was a very competitive game that saw Athens go out to leads of 9 on a few times only to have the Buckeyes come right back down the floor and hit 3's to keep the game in doubt.

Athens 8th grade boys get the season sweep over a very game Gallia Academy 8th grade team 35-20. A very close contest at the half , but the Bulldogs pulled away in the second half to run their record to 8-0. Up next, Alexander on Saturday.

Nice job Dogs. I think this is the best team in the area.
Talked to some Nelsonville 8th grade parents last night. They beat Vinton at Vinton by 5pts. Said they finished the year at 11-3. 2 losses to Athens and 1 to Vinton.
Nice job both teams.

The game is tonight at 5:30. If you want to see a great 8th grade game, do not miss this one, it should be a dandy. Both teams are very well coached and i am sure mentally prepared. These two teams know each other as well as they know themselves. It should be a collasal struggle.

The second semifinal will follow between Nelsonville-York and Federal Hocking.

The consolation will be Friday at 5:30 followed by the championship.

I have not seen Fed Hock this year, but Athens, Vinton County, and Nelsonville -York are all terrific and worth the price of admission.
