Peebles 7th grade knocked off unbeaten Whiteoak...so Peebles definitely has a good 7th grade squad

South Webster has a good 7th grade team. Collins is really good and Lower has improved a good deal. Lower going to be a real nice varsity player...easy to tell

River Valley - Jacob Winters is averaging 19 pts and 12 Reb a game, Brady Fitch 14 pts and 5 assists. Overall the team is 4-1 with wins over Pt Pleasant, Meigs, Athens and NY with the only loss to Alexander by 6.

Have heard that Winters is one of the top 7th grade athletes around

Watched West 7th grade lastnight. In warm ups watched Sanderlin go up and grab the rim fairly easy, I would say with his work ethic he will be dunking pretty soon. Probably this summer.

Now that's interesting. Any West or Burg people hear this one?*

People act like 13 year old kids are NBA free agents.

His father has said to numerous people that he isn't going anywhere. He has other siblings that would have to change too. The class he is in is really good at all 3 sports and he is established there. It would be stupid to change now.

But everyone knows Wheelersburg recruits. They are getting very brazing at it.

Yep, we are known for our metal joining skills here in The Burg. Lol I think you mean Brazen.

And does the name Oak mean you are from Oak Hill? If so, then your all star team from Jackson county and surrounding counties are having a good year on the court. Watch out for those stones in your glass house. Is that BRAZEN enough for you? 😂😂

I have to agree with this. These are kids. Leave them alone.

According to his father they aren't going anywhere. Combination of Basketball, baseball, football this might be the best class at West since the mid 80s and there are several good classes behind them.

As far as Wheelersburg, with their increasing enrollment and the multiplier they will bump up to D4 or possibly D3 football for the foreseeable future after this year. Based on football this fall and basketball this winter the 7th grade class at Wheelersburg is very weak compared to past Wheelersburg classes.

Dedication and hard work mean alot. It is why players get better. But talent does factor in there and around 7th/8th you can see players with more ability than others. It's no different than Ohio State trying to recruit 5 star players. Sometimes a 3 star turns into a star, but most times his ceiling is lower. It's no different here.

The Wheelersburg players you mention did work hard. But outside of Carmichael they were mainly role players. How good would they be surrounded by an average junior class?

I'm sure someone will chime in about beards and puberty playing against boys, and that does matter. But tell me you didn't see Tanner Holden play in middle school and see that athletically he was head and shoulders better than everyone.

Same can be said about this years football and basketball games. Remove ONE kid from west who is physically dominate and almost fully grown and they cant beat half of the SOC. He is being caught by everyone else. Burg 21-0 at half without him and 35-21 final with him in the second half. There is the proof

West put 5 - 7th graders in the second half who hadn't played the first.

The first basketball game Wheelersburg scored 4 points through almost 3 quarters.

I am sure they did. no reason for me not to believe you. but only ONE player did all they damage and his physical advantage will be gone in 1-2 years. then what????

The score of the game was 14-0 @ halftime. 30 to 14 final. At halftime the coaches let the 5 players that played up all year play and put the other kids back to their normal positions. That was the difference

The kid you mention is very good. There are several very good players on that team. That's why they win in basketball and football. It's easy to stop 1 person, it's hard to stop and bunch. You making it sound like 1 player made all the tackles, did all the blocking, and scored all the points is rediculous. All the touchdowns that Holden scored this year, did "he" do it by himself or did the team around him put him in a position to do it? Good teams put their talent in a position to succeed by keeping the defense honest and getting their best players the ball where they can use their ability.

By the way this summer this team beat Wheelersburgs 8th grade at SSU and lost to South Webster and Logan 8th grade teams by 1 at Jackson. Did maturity do that too?

Very good post West fan. The one player mentioned above is not being caught by the others, actually l think the gap is getting bigger. He has a great work ethic as some of the other West 7th graders do also.

You do realize that isn’t fully accurate correct ? For starters they did not beat Wheelersburg 8th grade team . There was never a Wheelersburg 8th grade team that was made up of their actual players. There was 2-3 kids who were regular season players who played in the Shawnee league, 1 of which who didn’t even play until last couple weeks because of family vacations and AAU Ball. Majority of the other kids who played, don’t even play on their 8th grade team now. Now they did however beat the 7th grade team with a 8th grader playing for fun to help bc they didn’t have enough players . Other than that, I can assure you they didn’t beat a Burg team made up of key 8th grade players.

That 7th grade west class is a very good class. I will give them that. They have a very bright future . But since everyone is throwing out comments about “bearded players” and such, and basically saying west 7th grade is just so far advanced than burg 7th grade , do we not mention that very well may be the case because 2-3 of the 7th grade key players are suppose to actually be 8th graders . Same goes for Valley, which is why Valley and West is a good matchup . Don’t forget to mention that Burg beat them last regular season game too.

I'd really like to know where some of you guys are getting this information. The West 7th grade group growing up were always really well coached along with a lot of hard work. Same case for valley. As for as saying some of the key players on West 7th should be in 8th grade you are sadly mistaken. The kid you are mentioning doesn't turn 14 until the end of June. How does that make you an eighth grader. The rest of the starters are all near that same age. Valley is no different. Talent and gifted abilities only get you do far and both teams have developed their talent really well, and success is the result.

So you’re telling me Sanderlin was never in the 8th grade class of 2022? Bc if you think he wasn’t then you’re the one who is sadly mistaken . He didn’t go to West all of his life ya know . I know you know that, just like the rest of us do. We also know the grade/class he was in before the year he moved to West . Don’t forget , 3 of the 8th grade boys are from other schools that include PORTSMOUTH, (where he came from), West, and Ironton. We know him. And that is not false information. Great kid, and a great athlete. But , That is 100% accurate . I think Sissel was in the class of 2022 too ? But that I could be mistaken. And yes that is the case for Valley as well. You may not know that, but that doesn’t mean it ain’t true . So for u to say it’s false is inaccurate. I know ppl on a personal level that has a child who was once in the class of 2022 at Valley , she and another family held them back. 2 I know for sure .

No one is taking away from them kids. Never once . Like I mentioned before , that is a great class . But facts are facts .
