Portsmouth 7th grade girls beat Northwest in a scrimmage Weds. 35-24 in 5 quarters. Williams 17pts, Jenkins 9 pts, and Benner 9 pts
Good start for the team that went 27-5 last year as 6th graders. Next up at Ironton Weds. 12-09

8th grade also won comfortably. The transfer from Northwest will be a nice addition to this team.

Portsmouth 7th grade moved to 1-0 tonight with a win over West Union 41-21. Williams 18 pts, Jenkins 12 pts, Benner 6 pts, Ferrara 4 pts, and Kitchen 1pt.
8th grade (1-0) was also winners 37-25. Phillips 20 pts, Jackson 8 pts, Seison 4 pts, Harr 3 pts, and Justice 2 pts. Good Job by both grades. Now get ready to go on the road against those Ironton Fighting Tigers tomorrow.

Two great games tonight in Ironton. The 7th grade girls (1-1) took their 1st loss of the season on a last second shot at the buzzer that was good by Ironton. Final Ironton 25 Portsmouth 24. Williams 13 pts, Jenkins 5 pts, Benner 4 pts, and Ferrara 2 pts.
The 8th grade (2-0) held off a late rally for a hard fought 37-36 win. Phillips 22 pts, Swords 9 pts, and Jackson 6 pts. Both games were tough defensive struggles. 3rd game in three nights tomorrow at Chillicothe. Good luck to the 8th grade Lady Trojans stay unbeaten. Good luck to the 7th grade Lady Trojans get back on the winning side.

The girls 7th grade (1-2) fought hard tonight but lost to a very athletic and fundamentally sound team from Chillicothe 40-30. Have not seen this team through the years, but came away pretty impressed. Williams 13 pts, Benner 6 pts, Ferrara 5 pts, Jenkins 4 pts, and Osborne 2 pts. Next up Manchester at Home on Mon the 14th for the 7th grade only. Time to bounce back.
The 8th grade girls (3-0) remained undefeated with a comfortable win over Chillicothe 56-26. Too much size and speed for Chilli in this one. Phillips 22 pts, Swords 21 pts, Jackson 9 pts, Harr 4 pts. Next up for the 8th grade at Home against Jackson on 12/16. This will be the true test to see how good this team is.

In a game that counted towards the 7th grade girls record (2-2), a combination of the 7th and 8th grade Lady Trojans defeated a combination of the 7th and 8th grade girls from Manchester 33-29. The Lady Trojans held a 7 point lead at halftime only to be outscored 16-6 in the 3rd quarter to put Portsmouth down by 3. Portsmouth came out on fire in the 4th quarter and outscored Manchester 13-6 to secure the victory. Swords 9 pts, Kitchen 7 pts, Williams 6 pts, Benner 4 pts, Phillips 4 pts, and Jenkins 3 pts. Both teams will be back in action on Weds. at home against Jackson.

Portsmouth girls 7th grade played their best game of the year to improve to (3-2) with a convincing 35-18 win over Jackson. The Lady Trojans held a 7 point lead at halftime and used a smuthering defense to outscore the IronLadies 17-7 in the second half. Williams led with 16 pts, Jenkins 11 pts, Benner 3 pts, Kitchen 3 pts, and Ferrara 2 pts. Next game won't be until the turn of the year at Wheelersburg 1/11/10.
The 8th grade girls suffered their 1st defeat of the year (3-1) to a very good team from Jackson 57-17. Phillips led with 9 pts, Harr 3 pts, Swords 3 pts, and Howard 2 pts. Next game at Burg 1/11/10.

Portsmouth's 7th and 8th grade girls both earned wins tonight over the Wheelersburg Pirates. The 7th grade (which is down to 6 girls due to injuries) battled through early foul trouble to win 33-15. Williams and Benner lead with 13 pts apiece, while Kitchen added 4 pts, and Jenkins rounded out the scoring with 3 pts. That brings the 7th grade record to 4-2.
The 8th grade Lady Trojans improved to 4-1 with a 36-24 win over the Lady Pirates. Phillips lead with 22 pts, Swords 6 pts, Jackson 6 pts, and Harr 2 pts.
Both teams are back in action on Wednesday 1/13 at home against Northwest with the 7th grade tipping at 5:30.

The 7th and 8th grade girls from Portsmouth both came away with hard fought victories over tough Northwest teams tonight. The 7th grade took a 12 point lead into the 4th quarter only to have to hang on for a 41-37 win. Williams lead with 22 pts, Benner 11 pts, Kitchen 6 pts, and Ferrara finished the scoring with 2 pts. That brings the 7th grade record to 5-2.
The 8th grade (5-1) took a 34-23 win over the Lady Mohawks, in a game that was closer than the score indictated. Phillips was the leading scorer with 14 pts, Swords added 12 pts, and Jackson completed the scoring with 8 pts.
Both play at home tomorrow against West Portsmouth.

The 7th and 8th grade girls' teams from Portsmouth earned a split on the evening with the 7th, who have won 5 in a row, winning 29-22 against a gritty West Portsmouth team in a game that was close the whole game. The 7th grade Lady Trojans (6-2) were paced by Williams with 19 pts, Benner 5 pts, Jenkins 3 pts, and Kitchen closed the scoring with 2 pts.
The 8th grade lost a physical game to a very talented West team by a score of 49-22. That brings the 8th grade record to (5-2) on the season. The Lady Trojans were led by Phillips with 9 pts, Swords 6 pts, Jackson and Harr with 3 apiece, and Howard had 1 pt. Both teams from Portsmouth have a week off before playing at Jackson on Thurs 1/21.

The 7th and 8th grade Lady Trojans earned a split at Jackson with the 7th grade (7-2) winning their 6th in a row 30-24. Williams led the way with 14 pts, Stevens 7 pts, Jenkins 5 pts, and Benner finished the scoring with 4 pts.
The 8th grade (5-3) were beaten 61-18. Swords led with 8 pts, Phillips 6 pts, and Jackson and Harr had 2 pts apiece.
The 8th grade only will play their next game on the road this Saturday at 10 am against Manchester. Both teams will be back together this Monday 1/25 at home against Wheelersburg.

A combination of 7th and 8th grade Lady Trojans lost a tough one to the 8th graders from Manchester 45-42 after Portsmouth was leading by 5 at halftime. This loss counts toward the 8th grade record which is now (5-4). The team was lead by Phillips with 19 pts, Williams with 6 pts, Benner 6 pts, Swords 4 pts, Jackson 4 pts, and Seison finished the scoring with 3 pts. Both teams will be back in action on Monday at home against the Burg with the 7th grade tipping at 5:30.
