The Nelsonville fire chief died Friday from what authorities are calling a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Athens County Sheriff’s Office had had an investigation underway involving 53-year-old Tim Carr before his death, according to Sheriff Pat Kelly, though he would not provide details.
Kelly said his office got a call Friday about 6:15 p.m. that firefighters had found Carr, wounded in the head but alive, in a restroom at the fire station.
Carr was flown to Grant Medical Center, but subsequently died, Kelly said.
Though Carr’s death is not officially being described as a suicide, Kelly said he’s confident the wound was self-inflicted. He would not identify the type of gun used.
