Trimble Trivia

Post by Warpig »

The idea stolen off of Nelsonville-York and later Portsmouth. I have to make them questions that are not easily found or not on the trimblefootball web page.

1) What two teams voted against Trimble's admission to the TVC?
Warren and Belpre (said we wouldn't be competitive)
2) What number did Coach Phil Faires wear during his playing days?
#51
3) What was the name of the Swedish foreign exchange student who was the kicker for the 'Cats in 1991?
Tom Bang (wore #66)
4) Who is the only player to lead the Tomcats in receiving for three straight seasons?
Mark Campbell
5) Where was the location of the 1980 playoff game?
Newark White Field (against Newark Catholic)
6) Where was the location of the second round 2001 playoff game?
Newark White Field (against Danville)
7) What game in the 2004 season was played at Pedan Stadium?
Wahama (Glouster Memorial was flooded)
8) Against what team did Jeff McClelland set the single game rushing record?
Federal Hocking (18 carries for 330 yards)
9) Against what team did Roger Bingman set the single game passing record?
Wellston Bingman threw for 337 yards, unfortunately the Rockets led by QB (and current head coach of West Jefferson) Shawn Buescher pulled out the 27-21 win
10) Against what team did Reuben Kittle set the single game receiving record?
Miller (172 yards all in the first half)
I may come up with some more later

Buckfan84 correct on #7

TCAT1000+ correct on 1,3,5,6,7,&10

#2 Faires did not wear 65, at least not his Jr. and Sr. seasons
#4 When Scott Holbert was a sophomore, Todd Trace was the leading receiver
#8 Not Miller although he did rush for 253 yards against them
#9 Not Centennial although in '89 he set the record for most passing TDs against them (6) and in 1990 he threw for 304 yards against them

Well lets guess some more
2. I know coach Faires didn't wear a jersey number under 50. so I'm going with 68
4. Reuben Kittle may have led the cats in receiving his junior and senior seasons, I'm not sure about him being a sophmore though. I'm thinking this could possible be someone in the 70's or early 80's but I'm going to guess Reuben to eliminate that possibility first.
8. Federal Hocking
9. Belpre A huge upset in the 1990 season. Bingman was on fire that night, receivers caught everything thrown their way. Not a bad guess :122245

Coach Faires was 51 (to match his current age).

How about Greg Holbert as the receiver.

I think you should have a new question.

Who is the ugliest person to ever lead the Cats in rushing?
Tom Hardy or Dennis Orsborne, I can't decide

TCAT1000+ Correct for #8
Teufelhunden Correct for #2
Image
#4 Kittle's Sophomore year the leading receiver was Charlie Gatchel
#4 Greg Holbert's Sophomore year the leading receiver was Mike Echstenkamper

#9 Was not Belpre 1990, although Bingman did complete over 65% of his passes that night.

Since were down to two, I'll give some clues.
#4 This receiver played for three different coaches in his the three years he led the 'Cats in receiving

#9 This game was a loss in the 1990 season

Get the next two right and I'll come up with ten more

Well I don't know about the ugliest person to lead the Cats in rushing but it looks like we have found a good candidate for the number 51.    I think there should be a question about the ugliest guy to wear the number 85 jersey. Rusty "the sultan of smack" Martin, The one and only L.R. Faires. That contest would surpass all the leading rushers, receivers and anyone that wore the number 51.

I figured that Charlie would be in the mix somewhere. He was a good football player.

I'm not to guess anymore just yet, I should probably let other people get in on the action.

Btw Im voting for Martin. :122246

Don't tell me the receiver is Jumbo Holbert. The class of 86 is the only one I can think of who had 3 different coaches in a row.

I have no misconceptions about the rugged good looks of L.R. Faires. However, Dave Dupler might be my saving grace, I am certainly not as ugly as Dupe. So the awards look like this:
ugliest #51 Coach Faires
Ugliest leading rusher Tom Hardy
ugliest #85 Dave Dupler

teufelhunden: #4 is class of 1986, but not Jim Holbert

Another hint for #9 it was a league game

He was moved to tailback the last couple of games of his junior season, I thought maybe Jumbo would have got ahead of him.

Mark Campbell is one of our all-time greats, can't believe he didn't come straight to mind.

teufelhunden: #4 correct Mark was the leading receiver for Coach Bolin's '83 team, Coach Pritchard's '84 team and Coach Litteral's '85 team, the only player to be leading receiver for three straight seasons.

Only one left is #9 What team did Bingman set the single game passing yards record against?

Not Vinton County for #9

For the record that means the record was set against one of these teams:
Wellston, Meigs, or Nelsonville-York
