Anyone who ever attended a junior high or jV football game in Meigs County at Eastern, Meigs, or Southern knew the referee.
It was Bob Burton, better known as "Artie Foo." He also officiated varsity football around the area at all levels for 50 years.
Artie passed away on February 25 at 8:20 PM at the age of 83. He was a long time member of the Athens Football Officials Association.
He actually officiated lower level games until the age of 82.
Calling hours will be from 4-9 at the Anderson McDaniel Funeral Home in Pomeroy with the funeral at 11 on Saturday.
He was a great friend of mine.
RIP Artie Foo
Referee of 50 Years Dies
Re: Referee of 50 Years Dies
Artie reffed many a game when I was on the field. Sorry to hear the news.

Re: Referee of 50 Years Dies
Talked to several former players tonight and the first thing they mentioned was the silver dollar he gave them.
For 50 years Artie gave a silver dollar to the team captain who won the toss in every game.
He worked every Friday night as well as all the lower level games he could do.
He was the honorary referee for the final Meigs home game this year vs Alexander and conducted the coin toss.
He sold ads for the football program and then sold the programs at the back gate in Pomeroy for 20 years after he retired from varsity games. He also conducted AFOA meeting that were held at Meigs. No one loved football more than Artie Foo. For years he would call me in March to remind me of the sate meeting in August. In his prime he was a walking rule book.
He was also known for his community service in the Pomeroy area.
He reffed my junior high games in the late 60's. He was retired from the Kyger Creek power plant below Cheshire.

Re: Referee of 50 Years Dies
I have one of those Artie Foo silver dollars in my stuff.
Southern vs. Kyger Creek, 1990.
He called me for a cheap facemask penalty that night. Because he knew Dad, he let me argue a little, but then we just laughed about it.
