Southeastern Ohio Preps Basketball League Powerpoll ( A League)

Post by mattash »

A League Preseason

1- Kings.

The defending champs have a stacked roster once again. They will be an absolute force inside with the return of Marty Thomas, as well as veteran board machine Fleming, and do it all MVP Frank Lee. On the wing, they'll have high flying Marquis Foley, and veteran defensive stopper Stacey Jackson. Then stacked at guard with sharp shooting MVP Drew Stevens, dynamic D1 player Zack Carter, as well as heady leader Greg Cherry, and combo guard Gene Cotten. This team is the favorite to repeat, but it won't be easy with this years competition.

2- Hawks

This team has 6 runner ups in the ABL and loaded up in free agency over the off season To try and grab the title. Two time MVP beast Aaron Pennington joins the Hawks, as well as his teammate veteran sharpshooter two time MVP Derek Jordan, who teams with PJ Rase and Brennan Hall to form a formidable shooting trio. Another add is 6-9 Cedarville signee Kollin Van Horn, as well as his high school teammate and Marshalll signee Luke Thomas. Returning is one of the best backcourts in ABL with floor leader dynamo Adam Yeager and Versatile do it all Tanner Wild. Bobby Evans is a Hawks veteran and an inside out threat who's been to the finals 8 times with no win. This team is loaded.

3- Bayhawks

A new team will be formed with the Bayhawks. They are led by Overseas legend and two time MVP Kyle Miller, as well as 6-6 wing Mike Terry. Tyler Farley and Brandon Barnes form a scoring duo that will be able to get hot in a hurry. Then you have tough guy do it all Ryan Whetsel. Darius Jackson leaves LA and will be a fierce defensive competitor for the Expansion Bayhawks. Big man Alex Roy, speedy guard Darius Boykin, and Jacob Porter round out the roster. If everybody plays together this could be a lethal bunch.

4- Rockets

The Rockets are the former 76ers and will display much of the same players. The five mainstays make up this squad from Gallipolis area and play harder and together than any one. Robbie Pugh is the leader and can shoot it from anywhere. Jaymes Haggerty brings speed and toughness at the guard spot. Big man Marcus Frazier backs down from no man and will always guard the opponents best big. Corey Haner is an elite talent and can do everything well on the court. Lastly josh Davis is a beast inside and rebounds with anyone in the league. Terrific squad that's loooks to finally get over the hump.

5- Lakers

The veteran Laker squad led by former champ and MVP Anthony Williams will once again attempt to cut the nets down. Randle Pennington also returns and is said to be in terrific shape. Bryan Taylor brings leadership and long range shooting, as does veteran Brice Kearns. Peano returns and is ready to play lock down Defense on anyone. Newcomers include shooting guard Bobby McKinney, athletic wing Ryan Brown, Forest Johnson, Jarrod Alley and Myles Shipp.

6- Sonics

The Sonics bump up to the A League and will be a tough matchup for anyone. Greg Mauk leads this team with his leadership and shooting, as well as veterans Scotty "Swish" Jones, Conley, and Nathan Patten. Aaron White Delano Thomas and Doran Martin will be able to matchup with anyone as they're very versatile. Kevin Carter and Scarberry round out a roster and adds toughness and scoring for the sonics.

7- JV Dirks

Another expansion team will attempt to bring in a bunch of abl roookies to a mans league and come away victorious. Talented youngsters make up this team. Chris Claxon is the teams veteran anchor, and will man the paint with talented big Hunter Kenser, Hayden Roe, and versatile Kyle Justice. Austin Chafins, and Zack Webb form a solid backcourt, and Reese Robinson will add athleticism and scoring. John Dawson and Blake prince also provide athletic bounce. If this team can use their speed and control pace they'll be formidable.

8- Blizzard

The last ranked team is another expansion team looking to prove me wrong. Steve Layman is the leader and will look to develop team chemistry with a group of talented guys. Dionte Coleman and big man Aaron Montgomery were last minute free agent pickups that should help this teams transition to the fierce competition in the A division. Chad Garris, and Blayden Sullivan will provide scoring. Caine Howard and Aaron Quinn speed and defense. Last, Austin Christian and Dwayne Maddison will also score and provide two way versatility.

Week 2 Powerpoll and Predictions

1- Kings 1-0- The reward for the Rockets is they get to play the defending champion Kings in game #2. In the past, the Rockets style of play has given the Kings some troubles, but they're clicking on all cylinders, repeating back to last season. If the Rockets can compete on the glass inside, this will be down to the wire, if not, I can see the Kings running away. However, I think the Rockets keep it tight, but the Kings winning late 88-84. That would be two tough losses for the Rockets on the day.

2. Bayhawks 1-0- The Bayhawks are coming off a huge win against the Bighawks, and are supremely talented. The Rockets play together and as hard as any team in the ABL, and are always a tough opponent. I look for this game to be close all the way through, with the Bayhawks pulling away on a last second jumper 83-80.

3. Big Hawks 0-1 BYE WEEK

4. Rockets 0-0- The Bayhawks are coming off a huge win against the Bighawks, and are supremely talented. The Rockets play together and as hard as any team in the ABL, and are always a tough opponent. I look for this game to be close all the way through, with the Bayhawks pulling away on a last second jumper 83-80.

5. Sonics 1-0- The Sonics were solid in week 1, and the JV Dirks turned a run away game for the Kings into a contest in the end. The JV dirks are a young, scrappy bunch that never seem to quit and the Sonics have size to match their steady guard play. This will be a true battle and I have the JV dirks getting their first abl victory on a last second jumper 72-70.

6. Lakers 0-1- The Lakers are fresh off a tough loss, and look to avenge this week against the expansion Blizzard. The Blizzard are a mix of guys that have yet to be determined as to how good they are, but the talent is there. The lakers are always in contention and a fierce competitor for any team. I see the Lakers getting in the win column with a big victory 79-59.

7. JV Dirks 0-1- The Sonics were solid in week 1, and the JV Dirks turned a run away game for the Kings into a contest in the end. The JV dirks are a young, scrappy bunch that never seem to quit and the Sonics have size to match their steady guard play. This will be a true battle and I have the JV dirks getting their first abl victory on a last second jumper 72-70.

8. Blizzards 0-0-The Lakers are fresh off a tough loss, and look to avenge this week against the expansion Blizzard. The Blizzard are a mix of guys that have yet to be determined as to how good they are, but the talent is there. The lakers are always in contention and a fierce competitor for any team. I see the Lakers getting in the win column with a big victory 79-59.
