Pike lived in the Cincinnati area when he was young, and was stationed in Ohio as a young soldier. His job then was to supply frontier posts in Ohio (possibly could have been to Pike County then)(Pike also claimed to participate in the Battle of Fallen Timbers but there is no record of this). Pike was also a paymaster along the Ohio River at one time (if he was ever in Pike County, it is more probable that this is when it happened).

Interesting side-note... Pike fell in love with his first cousin, Clarissa, who was the daughter of Kentucky General John Brown. Gen. Brown fought the marriage until his death. Zebulon and Clarissa then had several children, but only one reached adulthood. That child married a son of President William Henry Harrison, who was from Ohio.
