55% of Americans say they often come into contact with people who speak mostly Spanish rather than English. By a 66% to 33% margin, they are not bothered by encounters with people who speak mostly Spanish.

Liberals are more likely than conservatives to tune in to political commentary and entertainment programs with which they philosophically disagree. 20% of liberals and 18% of moderates say they periodically check out programming that challenges their political beliefs, compared to 11% of conservatives. And while 22% of conservatives say they "never" expose themselves to opposing views, only 7% of liberals admitted to that.

35% of Americans say they plan to spend less on holiday gifts this year than they did last year--the highest percentage to profess such pessimism in eight years. Most of those cutting back blame higher gas and heating-oil costs or an erosion in their personal finances. 15% say they plan to spend more than last year, while 47% say they'll spend about the same.

With the reduction in violece in Irag, 48% of Americans now say the war is going very or fairly well, up from 34% in June. Still. by a 54% to 41% margin,Americans favor bringing the troops home as soon as possible.

Mitt Romney's speech on his Mormon faith apparently didn't change many minds. After the speech,17% still said they would never vote for a Mormon candidate. Earlier in the year,19% said they would never vote for a Mormon.
