Caldwell misses 6 layups and goes 7/15 from the free throw line against River. Led the entire first half until the last 30 seconds before the half. Exciting back and forth game. Very good chance these two teams will meet in the Union Local sectional next month.

Re: PVC Schedules, Results, and Standings 2010-11
River will not meet Caldwell in the sectional. Here's why:
Projected Seeds:
1) Rosecrans
2) River
3) Bridgeport
4) Beallsville
5) Frontier
6) Caldwell
7) Shadyside
8)Bellaire St. John
1 and 2 must go to opposite brackets. 3 seed gets to choose spot on bracket next, 4 next and so on. I look for seeds 3,4 and 5 to go to River's side of the bracket in order to avoid Rosecrans at all costs. That leaves seeds 6,7 and 8 in the Bishops side of the bracket. Coach Tolzda has more friends at the sectional draw than does Caldwell's first year head coach, in addition Beallsville will finish with a winning record and Caldwell will not. These two factors will most likely give the Blue Devils the 4 seed nod over the Redskins.
As for tonight:
River outplayed the Cadets in quarters 1 and 4, but FF outplayed River in qtrs. 2 and 3. This game was 38-24 in favor of FF after 3 qtrs. but the Pilots came storming back to cut FF's lead to 4 pts. on two seperate occasions deep into the 4th qtr. FF converted on free throws and a couple of offensive possessions down the stretch to put River away by the 11 pt. margin.
Difference in the game tonight was the offensive play of Zach Eddy at the high post in the second qtr., and the fact that Brown and Ramsier had off-nights offensively for River. Brown was sick and gutted out a decent floor game, but Ramsier simply didn't bring his 'A' (or B or C or D, for that matter) game on the trip down from Hannibal.
Credit goes to FF for the 'W', and demonstrating how hard the game is supposed to be played.
Credit the Pilots for not "mailing it in", in the 4th qtr. when faced with a 14 pt. deficit. They made a very good game of it until the last 1:30 or so. Good enough to get Coach Dan's full attention after a seemingly comfortable lead for the Cadets.

River played their second worst game of the year vs. Caldwell Tuesday night. Their worst was the first Caldwell game @ River back in December. There are a few reasons why River doesn't have the expected results vs. Caldwell. Poor 3 pt. FG percentage being one of the biggest.

Fort Frye also had a poor game tonight. They normally shoot much better at home.River is a good team and I know Wax,Brown, and Ramiser can play better.Potts was on fire he should have played more.

As for the D4 sectional-I think Frontier is the better team but Caldwell still has a shot at a top 5 seed. They still have another game with Frontier.PVC teams normally stick together so Kirkpatrick and Romick might help out Caldwell.

Re: PVC Schedules, Results, and Standings 2010-11
River was looking for players to put on the floor that would match FF's intensity. Sitting on the pine for awhile made some of their guys realize that they could play harder when they re-entered the game. Potts was one of those players.
FF looked the same to me as the game @ River in early Dec., with their 3pt. shooting being the exception. Part of why you say they played poorly is the fact that River is a pretty good team, that plays hard-nosed 'D', and looked to limit the Cadets' open looks from the perimeter. The Pilots had a few lapses on that end of the court last night and that happens against quality teams like FF. FF's individual scoring last night was pretty much on average for the season, perhaps slightly lower for a couple players, which led to them scoring 55 which is 5-6 points below their season average output.
River was not sharp last night as a whole. They did play well in spurts, but FF really took them out of their normal game. FF did a nice job of limiting the effectiveness of River's screens, except for the first 4 mins. of the 4th qtr. Indermuhle and Ramsier were non-contributors and Brown and Wax were mostly non-factors offensively. Bad night? Yes, but FF's 'D' had more to do with that than anything else.
Props must be given to FF for their performance. If Cadet fans think that they didn't play well, River being a solid team had alot to do with that. FF's sophs, Eddy and Smith were the X-factors in the game. Without them, FF is not a 12-2 team, period.

I was at work and got texts from friends at the game. Wasn't River onlly down 44-41 with 2:13 to play? What happened at the end?

Re: PVC Schedules, Results, and Standings 2010-11
River ran out of gas, so to speak. 2-3 possessions consecutive that they didn't hit a shot, coupled with some FF free throws and the nail in the coffin was probably the turnover near mid-court that FF converted a hoop and harm off of. FF scored the final 5-7 points of the game.
River, if they play as hard as they did the first 5:30 of the fourth quarter, will be just fine. They have as much or more talent than anybody on their schedule or in their sectional (Bishop Rosecrans might be the exception, but I think the Pilots can play with them). They have to be efficient in the scoring department every night. 44 points not enough vs. good teams like FF. Still, their losses have come only to FF, Magnolia, WV and Caldwell. The Caldwell one is the only bad loss. They could very well have won the other 4, but were deficient in one area of the game in each loss. 3pt. shooting, FT shooting, Rebounding vs. FF last night. The Pilots haven't played all that bad overall in their losses, but have had bad stretches that made the difference.

River is a good team and 2nd best team in the PVC but they are not on Rosecrans level.Rosecrans came into Beverly last year and beat FF by 29 playings mostly sophmores. They have played a tough schedule beat upper D2 teams like Desales. They are very good and are #1 in the state for a reason.o

Agreed, I only meant they could hang in a one game matchup, not saying they are better or really close talent-wise. Just that in a tourney matchup, they might hang around and give themselves a shot in the closing minutes.

Oh, good. I was hoping someone would post the River Valley score in the PVC thread.
