Sheridan is on fire, Waverly is rolling

They might be the top 2 D2 teams and they’ll square off in the district semis...maybe

Everyone is pretty good and dangerous.

Court House has 2 really good players with great length and a super quick guard. Miami Trace goes 6’8, 6’7, 6’6. Gallia Academy is very physical and has Clary a monster in the pain and tournaments typically very physical. Marietta some good players and all but beat Warren. FU a great coach and program and WILL be a tough out. Vinton County only 5 losses and Coach Combs...dangerous. Athens has one of the top scorers in the district and did it last year. New Lex is rolling with a great season. McClain well coached and gritty as can be (missing their star player but still doing well) Unioto great defensive team and great backcourt, Jackson is 14-3 and you never know who to focus on.

It will be fun and there WILL be upsets.

#1 Warren has taken two tough recent losses straight to the chin....should have little trouble with Washington...but New Lex could be interesting if Warren doesn’t play well.

#2 Logan Elm.....maybe the smallest team can the biggest and a physical game could be interesting for a good while

#3 Hillsboro. gets a physical and ornery #14 seed Gallia Academy

#4 Waverly....gets a dangerous Etta team and then Sheridan and Waverly maybe the best team....

#5 Sheridan...if you feel bad for Waverly feel worse for Sheridan. Get FU first then go to Waverly...that’s crazy for arguably the hottest team in the district.

#6 Jackson gets neighbor rival Vinton County and if win has to go to Hillsboro which seems favorable but also hard to say the two resumes aren’t basically the same...sure wish this potential matchup was on a neutral court

#7 Unioto...gets an offensive Athens team and Unioto hasn’t seemed themselves for a couple weeks.

New Lexington/McClain...gotta go New Lex with Badgley out

The first round of the D2 is FULL of potential upsets of the higher seeded teams ... New Lex is the sleeper, although at 16-6 not sure how THAT makes them a sleeper other than they will on paper be taking on the #1 seeded Warren Warriors. There is a chance that we see Sheridan vs New Lex / MVL vs MVL in District action ...

The size of Miami Trace vs Logan Elm has to scare the Braves BUT it will only be effective if MT can control the tempo of the game ... IF the Braves push the ball, they will be able to negate the size advantage ... the 3 ball will take care of the rest ... LE has been playing 7 deep but have put a lot of bodies on the court the last couple of weeks ... the Braves ARE the favorites BUT the MT size can be a BIG problem ... Logan Rodgers 6-8/Drew Guthrie 6-8/Dylan Bernard 6-6 THAT'S bigger than big when the tallest player for LE is 6-1 Trace Smith ... looking forward to seeing how Coach Stiverson/Coach Holbert/Coach Dropsey attack & defend the size of MT ...

Sheridan is playing good hoops at the right time ACTUALLY Sheridan is playing GREAT hoops at the right time ... familiar names in the lineup with Coconis "the younger" at pg, Landon Russell, Nate Johnson with both Russell and Johnson having been to the BIG SHOW in the final 4 for Sheridan when Reed Coconis' brother was THE PG for Sheridan ... FU doesn't have the depth/fire power to take down the Generals imo

Jackson has the true win by committee make up of their TEAM ... playing a Vinton County team that wins by outhustling/ outscrapping their opponents ... when playing a team like VC they can force the opponent to have a "big time player" step up and take control ... we will find out if the Ironmen have THAT player or will everyone carries their own weight get it done in the post season ... Jackson should get the W but without "that guy" it gives VC a opportunity in a "one and done" situation ...

Gallia Academy vs Hillsboro ... GAHS is 4th in the OVC ... with losses to PHS/Chesapeake/Coal Grove all BELOW GAHS in the OVC standings currently ... a loss to Fairland on Monday, GAHS drops into a tie with Portsmouth in the OVC ... no upset to be found here ...

Unioto vs Athens ... take the U everyday day of the week
Waverly vs Marietta ... the only reason that makes one even THINK that this might be a game is that Marietta took Warren to OT before losing at Warren early in the season ... it's not early in the season anymore, Marietta doesn't play defense, Marietta doesn't win unless they play other teams that don't play a lot of D & the Tigers are getting to shoot spot up 3's ... Waverly is playing as well as any team in SEO at both ends of the floor nb ... Tigers win going away ...

On the Jackson matchup....Drew Bragg has went for 16+ in 7 of our 17 games and doing so in about 22 minutes a game. Boston Kuhn has went 15+ 6x, Hammond has went 16+ 4x, Spires has went for 19 2x, Prater has went double digits 3x, Miller in only 4 games has went double digits, Woodard and Blankenship have each went for 9 and Erwin has had 6 several games.

Great input by PF and I92 on these first round matchups. Should be some good games.

I talked to an official last night that said that it sounds like it will be somewhere in the middle for both teams.
