Minford vs Burg: District Semis 2022

Crazy stat but I believe Minford hasn't won a district game since the 90's. Can they finally get over the hump?

This is a dangerous matchup for Minford. I said as soon as the brackets came out that Wheelerburg could win this. I'll go with Minford by 4 in a slugfest but it wouldn't shock me one bit if Burg pulls the upset.

Was that the year Minford made it to Regional Finals and lost to Burg? I think it was in '95, but not for sure. Regardless, that is crazy because Minford has had some solid teams/players over the years.*

Yeagle and company. Interesting note about that team. Burg won twice in 94 only to lose to falcons in tournament. The next year it was the opposite, burg lost to orriville in state final that year.

I’m sure minford has seen just about every defense you can throw at them. Which makes me feel that Wheelersburg will have to give up something. I would go with giving up the three point shot and live with them being off that night. I would also value each possession offensively. Burg has had some trouble taking the best shot. I will say burg is very good at getting a good look when they work for it.

If Burg's plan is to run a 2-3 zone in hopes that Minford doesn't make outside shots then I'd say they are in trouble. All 5 starters for Minford can and will shoot, 3 of them are very good outside shooters.

I’d say if Burg puts swords on Montgomery everyone in the 820 exchange will be smiling. Ain’t no way swords can keep up with the pace of Montgomery. I’m not a genius, but you typically don’t put your best (only?) shooter on the toughest defensive assignment either. Burg needs him to make big shots, not be gassed from chasing Montgomery around.

Not shocked at all here. Burg has had the athletes all season to make this a very dangerous matchup. Minford hasn’t won a game in the district since the 90’s which is a crazy stat thinking about some of the teams they’ve had come through there the last 10-15 years.

Congrats to Burg! They can absolutely win the next matchup also.

Pretty sure this is what happened. Only caught the end. Burg grinded it out and let minford bomb from outside. Church league ball. Works a lot of times.

Burg”s 2-3 zone stifled Minford all game. Burg kept the score low, which was in there favor. Burg had a game plan today that worked.

Great defense by Burg today 2-3 defense shut Minford down! Way to go BURG! I listened to it on the radio and it just sounded that Burg just played harder and out hustled Minford all day long. Congrats to minford on a great season and good luck Pirates moving on!

I would imagine Wheelersburg favored over Zane Trace/Chesapeake winner.

Tough draw for Minford. Played against a team that would be comfortable playing ugly and kids that knew they could win the game.

How does an auto corrected word in post make fun of kids? And how does the word Mumford do that? Lol. The only mumford I know is a scientist and a band. Both are cool. I’m sure he could of come up with a better word. Like muletown
