Warren Local (3-0) vs. Marietta (1-2) on 12-07-07

Post by Clover »

The Warriors travel to the Tigers den this Friday for another league game and big rivalry match up. I see from this mornings paper the Blue and White still need to focus on making their free throws along with taking care of the ball. Play hard and have fun guys.

Go out and beat those Tigers. 8)

I seen from the posts that the turnovers was awful .. and also Hooper did not play .. that explains it .. he seems to be the key to keep the guys in focus and on track when the wheels start falling off. What is the extent of his injury ? Will he play Friday at Marietta ?

I think Marietta is 1-2 having lost to Cambridge and Zanesville on the road, and defeating Caldwell at home. Records never seem to matter in the Washinton County games. The Tigers beat the Warriors twice last year. Hooper was hit hard in the Fort Frye game going in for a lay up and has a back injury. Who knows if he will play friday. He is a tough player who has played through pain in the past. The Warriors are coming off a tough battle at Logan where they won ugly. 26 T.O.'s and missing 23 foul shots. Marietta coming off the Zanesville game which will be tough for every SEOAL opponent this year. It will take a huge effort for any league team to win at Zanesville this season. But, you never know, anything can happen on any given night. Marietta is playing younger players, Warren is going with all seniors and John Hebb. We will see how it plays out in the " Sutton " gym on Friday night. New bleachers in Tiger town, I heard it seats about 200 less people. Like they say at the race track, get your tickets early, don't get shut out !!!!!!

marklduckworth,

You are correct on Marietta's record. I had the numbers backwards in my original post. I now have that corrected. I hear that the new bleachers are pretty nice and they sure were needed. I will be headed to the game this Friday to support you guys and looking for a sweep of the Tigers this year.
Play hard and have fun guys..........Go Warriors.

Tickets at the Sutton gym

Post by marklduckworth »

As per my conversation with the school this afternoon, no tickets will be sold until tomorrow. These will be walk up sales, first come first serve. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. My personal feeling is, tickets will not be a problem, but they do have less seats and it is Marietta / Warren. There has been talk for many years of moving the 2 games to Marietta College. Galia / River Valley have played at Rio Grande for years. I do not like it. High school basketball is meant to be played at the schools. Moving it to a larger venue does not make sense. In years past, the game was on T.V. on channel 2. Working on a deal with the Marietta College station ( which has a first class facility) would make sense to me. Sold out crowds happen often around here. It is common for Warren / Belpre, Warren / Fort Frye, Belpre / Fort Frye, Fort Frye / Waterford, and this year Marietta / Belpre. Great atmosphere in Washington County. If you don't realize how lucky we are, go to a game in Columbus sometime, and you will see parents and family and a few fans only. Keep the prices low so families can come. Fill up the gym every night. Come and enjoy this great game of basketball !!!!!!!!!!!

I am glad Marietta is playing Belpre

I wouldn't mind seeing the Washington County Championship being rekindled. Play the games at Ban Johnson perhaps over Christmas Break. Play a real county tournament like they did in the 50's.

Warren wins ugly. Didn't get to attend the game due to another commitment but the score was something like 45-41 Warren. Warren JV won too (ugly). Oh well, a win is a win.

Keep moving forward Warriors!

Others can fill in the details.

Reserve dcore?

Post by jottings »

WTAP, had Warren winning the varsity game, 46-41. Anybody have the reserve score? Another post said the Little Warriors also won, but didn't have score.

All I can say is ... bad ref's ... both ways , some of the worse no calls I have ever seen in a long time. Didnt understand why Warren didnt press coming out in the second half to put it away , they let Marietta back in it. The man to man matchup's were changed after the half .... for the worse. Cole Beihl is a much improved player over last year .. slashing to the bucket .. Tabler was kept in check tonight .. as long as Hooper was on him .. Hooper was a beast on defence tonight , though his shots werent falling ... Horner was taken out ...? maybe because of turnovers ? Warren needs to take care of the ball better. Hebb did a nice job coming off the bench. Was a very exciting game to watch , both JV and varsity.

Here's how things stacked up per The Marietta Times...

WARREN (4-0)

Sam Majoy 3 2-3 9; Craig Call 2 1-4 5; Tyler Horner 2 0-0 6; Steven Hunter 2 5-6 9; David Lemon 1 1-2 3; Cory Hooper 0 6-9 6; Jonathon Hebb 2 4-4 8.

MARIETTA (1-3)

Cole Biehl 2 1-5 5; Anthony Tabler 4 2-7 12; Zane Eschbaugh 3 2-4 8; Jason Baldwin 1 2-4 4; Zach Arnold 2 4-4 6; Clay Matheny 1 0-0 2; Perry Wheeler 1 0-1 2.

Definitely not a pretty game on either end, but in typical Marietta/Warren fashion. Warren was up by double digits at one time only to see that slip away. The big question being asked was why did Horner sit most of the second half? ANyway, I agree that the referees in this game were the most inconsistent I have seen in a long time.

Game was ugly but a win si a win. On Horner in the second half after talking after the game last night I understand he was hurt (elbow) on a drive to the basket where there was alot of contact and no call. He tried to continue but asked coach to take him out.

hoopball, yes the refs were very bad but Warren probably did not press do to the fact that of the bad reffing. You tend to play more agressive and get more fouls when pressing. As for why Horner had to leave in the 2nd half was do to a injury to his elbow when he got body slammed driving to the bucket, not because of turnovers. I talked to his dad and he said he is going to be fine. Warren sure missed him in the 2nd half. Keep it going Warriors, you guys are getting better.

Let's see ....hmmm ... no press because of bad calls ? You drive the lane .. get hammered and have to leave the game with no foul called .. I think I would press and put the game away .. take my chances. I would rather my players foul out ... then get taken out due to injuries. Sorry .. but I dont agree with your logic.

hoopball, first of all you need to get a dictionary and learn how to spell defense and offense. That prooves to me that you dont know the X's and O's of the game because u cant spell them to start with. Yes Hooper played good defense but so did everybody else. Thats the thing you and Hooper need to learn is it takes teamwork to be a good team. Also maybe you could change youre name to bitterball, Hmmm.... that seems to fit.

Funny your spelling is just as bad ...prooves? and lack of correct word usage ..do instead of due...lol... I'm no english major .. nor are you .. so lets drop it. I have seen Warren for two years now , and yes you are right .. they do lack teamwork, and good play sets. One more thing ..I'm not bitter ..I'm glad you responded.

I'm not sure it was the worst officiated game I've ever seen, but it was a typical WARREN/ Marietta match-up, there was ALOT to call and ALOT that did'nt get called. When these two teams play that is to be expected. It won't be any different when Marietta comes to WARREN! "I LOVE THIS GAME"

Jottings.
The JV score was 50-41 Warren.

Warriors, be thankful we got the win at Marietta and move on to the next order of business. Zanesville will be a tall order for us and you will need to bring your "A" game. You fellas have all week to prepare. Play hard and have fun guys.
