12/9/22 SW @ Wheelersburg

Great job pirates.
I see no Aldridge or waginger on this team for webster. They will struggle to win their region.

I hope nobody expecting Webster to win their Region this year. Not saying it won’t happen, but that’s a lot to ask of a team whose top talent are juniors and sophomores.
District Championship is a realistic goal in D4 though and they are capable of it. Anything beyond that is icing on the cake.*

Good ballgame. Both will be exciting to follow going forward as they both will continue to get better hopefully.

I wouldn't be surprised either.fbnut wrote: ↑Sat Dec 10, 2022 7:07 amDon’t be shocked if they come backyabbadabbadoo wrote: ↑Fri Dec 09, 2022 11:42 pmart_vandelay wrote: ↑Fri Dec 09, 2022 11:30 pm
I get your point, but ironically, the kid from Burg who hit the game-winning shot was a junior high transfer from Webster.*
Yeah, just having a little fun. Would have been nice to see the Sommer kid stay at Burg!! He would of been a big help!!
Re: 12/9/22 SW @ Wheelersburg
If they go back then so be it. No use in talking about it right now. Rucker kid impressive for burg as a freshman. SW would get better immediately if they were playing their best freshman in Barnard right now. They can’t go much longer with him on JV. He is too important to their potential this year. Just watch a SW JV game and you’ll see it.

I feel that’s what they are gunning for.art_vandelay wrote: ↑Sat Dec 10, 2022 4:07 pmI hope nobody expecting Webster to win their Region this year. Not saying it won’t happen, but that’s a lot to ask of a team whose top talent are juniors and sophomores.

Again, nobody is saying that at all. I guess people are struggling to understand Swanker’s analogy. Anyone with a brain knows the state team would beat this team by 30.

I wasn’t trying to compare the two teams. I was commenting on the transfers over to webster. It feels as if they did so to gun for a title. I just don’t see enough there for that. Robertson is great but he’s got to have a great night every night in the tournament to have a chance. That’s a lot to ask for one kid.

I don’t know if that’s why they came. But it seemed to benefit kids from both schools so it is what it is.wobycat wrote: ↑Sat Dec 10, 2022 11:46 pmI wasn’t trying to compare the two teams. There’s a lot of very good teams in SEO this year and not a single one of them are favorites to win the region in D2, D3, or D4. Like all local teams, Websters goal is to compete and win a district title. As art vandelay stated, if they achieve that then anything after is a bonus.
Many many games left. As we’ve learned countless times over the years, teams that get hot in February and March are the teams we remember. What team will click at the right time and continuously enjoy playing with one another? Hope it’s several Scioto County schools playing in March!

He graduated from South Webster and still considers South Webster home whenever he comes back to Ohio.yabbadabbadoo wrote: ↑Sat Dec 10, 2022 12:43 pmThe Ghost of Swanker wrote: ↑Sat Dec 10, 2022 9:37 am 3 games into the 22 season and already speculating on them transferring back because we got beat by 2pts. Waginger got beat at ironton by 1 or 2 points and still won a chip.
I’m not sure what this means. Wasn’t Waginger a Senior and didn’t he end up going back to Ironton to play baseball and then graduated at Ironton??
That was what I always heard and there might not be any truth to it.
I had heard Ater was the driving force behind Sommer leaving Burg. Logic was he knew Sommer was a good basketball player and if he went to South Webster he wouldn’t have to face him come tournament time. That was all from a guy I know so not sure how true it even is. Might be someone stirring the pot again.
I think his point was —- it’s not the first time we’ve seen a kid (or kids) transfer to another school, then lose to their previous school in a high emotion game. Webster lost to Ironton that year, only to go on and win the state championship (also not claiming this is going to happen lol…. But Swank is trying to say that these things happen and there’s lots of season left)
Ok. I had always heard he went back to Ironton but didn’t think that was allowed, even back then.
Thanks for the clarification!!
