ALL-TIME SVAC TEAM

Post by Fonzie »

Yea, I stole the idea from another thred, but who would your top SVAC team be?

I am not quite old enough to remember all the names but I would have to say Kent Wolf would be near the top of the list.

All you older posters think long and hard a post your ALL-SVAC TEAM

lol your goin back in the golden days where the shorty shorts were the thing! lol Kent Wolfe was, from what i hear, one of =, if not the best point guards in the SVAC. I guess he was a great passer, shooter and defender... I remember him and quite a few others from the 82 Southern team that went to the state... there was Robert Brown who was a big man, Zane Beegle, Tommy Roseberry, Jay Reese, and quite a few others but those are the ones that sand out in my mind right now... definately a great team... as far as naming and all SVAC Coach... id say Carl Wolfe who coached that team... and Howie Caldwell as the assistant.

I cant think of all the other tams in the SVAC... Maximus, do some more research and im sure youll get many more replies... ;-)

lol well you certainly helped out and i believe your right about those teams you mentioned... throw out some names, im sure others will lyk if your right lol.... I heard a lot about all those schools, especially alot about a couple who were always consistently good. It helps having a grandfather who has been around the sport forever and knows so much about local sports history... lol  ;-)

I dont think Eastern ever had any great teams, but there was a Bissell boy or two who were always good

I can think of several players who could be all-svac. Jeff Caldwell is one. There are several from Hannan Trace: Mark Swain, Deke and Jeff Barnes, Billy Swain, Chris Petro, JJ Bevan, Craig Rankin to name a few.

David Amburgey would definately be on the first team. he played at southern in the late 80's and was first team all state.

Amburgey, I've heard some sweet stories about him.

Was Southern in the TVC at that point?

Greg James of North Gallia and Mark Swain of Hannan Trace were two the better ones. They played at Rio Grande along with Gil Price and Jimmy Noe of Gallipolis to form one of the better teams ever at Rio.

Amburgey was good and so was Kevin Teaford. There are to many names probably to make a list. I don't remember the Clark boy from North Gallia, but I do remember Kevin Burdette that played at Marietta with Chris Petro and Jeff Caldwell.

4 schools consolidated into River Valley? Wow, how small would those 4 schools be now?

Dave Rumley of GAHS's dad John Rumley played for Kyger Creek and he had 40 points in one game and 31 Rebounds. He still holds both school records. He was all SVAC in Basketball & Football in 1973-1974.

Some nominations from the late 80s:

Andy Baer -- Southern (all-around guard)
Chad Leach -- Kyger Creek (shooter, played at Kentucky Christian, I think)
Chris Tackett -- North Gallia (point guard, great passer and scorer)

I remember Amburgey from baseball more than basketball. That 90+ MPHfastball was scary as hell to a freshman who should have been throwing the discus instead of swinging a bat...

Those last few Hannan Trace teams were TEAMS. Hard to call out stars on those teams...

What about All-Time SVAC coaches?
Mike Jenkins?
Carl Wolfe?
Others?

I agree Boogerred. The last few Hannan Trace teams played well together. The 1991 team had almost 6 guys average double figures and the 1992 team had 4 guys that averaged 16.0+ points per game.
