Portsmouth frosh trip Gallipolis, 49-43

Visiting Portsmouth used two big scoring spurts early in the second and third periods enroute to a 49-43 over the Gallia Academy frosh Monday evening on the GAHS hardwood.

Gallipolis jumped out in front 7-2 early in the game, but PHS came roaring back to take a 10-9 first period lead.

Portsmouth outscored the home team 18-4 during the next few minutes to take a commanding lead. Following halftime, PHS blanked the Gallians 10-0, and led 39-29 after three periods of play. Gallipolis closed the final gap to six points by outscoring the Little Trojans, 14-10 in the final period.

Gallipolis dropped to 4-7 overall. PHS avenged an earlier 41-36 setback to Gallipolis and improved its season mark to 5-3. Gallipolis will host Athens on the GAHS hardwood Thursday.

Adam Bray led Portsmouth with 16 points. Dave Thompson added 12. Cory Straight led GAHS with 10 points. Caleb Warnmont added nine.
