Gilligan wrote:1. Alexander - Frost, Barnehouse and now Tolar. Those three will be too much for anyone else in the league to handle.
2. Belpre - Loyland, Simms and Tate will lead the Eagles. This will be a very good team, but the Spartans will just be too much for them.
3. Vinton County - Lost A LOT!! Still will be in the top half of the league because Combs runs a great program.
4. Meigs - have some good players returning like Well and Bolin. They're still Meigs, though, so I don't see them ahead of Alex, Belpre or VC.
5. Nelsonville-York - Barrick is back and the others gained some valuable experience last year.
6. Wellston- That program has pretty much been ran into the ground. Coach Derrow has had some great years at Wellston, but it's time for a change.

What about Athens?

First could go to VC, Belpre, or Alexander. The battle for fourth will be between Meigs and Athens. Nelsonville, Like Athens, has a promising Freshman class, but with little help other than Barrick so I see them slightly ahead of Wellston. Wellston, yet again, has more drama than talent, so I see them as last.

Alexander will be a very good team with Frost, Barnhouse and Tolar but Belpre with Tate, Sims, Loyland, Waderker and Watkins will be returning all 5 starters from last season. Should make for some exciting TVC action next season.

Let's not act like that was acutally their starting lineup! Maybe that group was the starting lineup in a particular game, I don't know, I didn't see Belpre play every game. However, I did see Belpre play enough to know that Lynch started pretty much every game, and Phalzgraf was a starter until he was off the team mid season. Watkins didn't even play varsity until the last few games of the year, and Waderker didn't play that much until the second half of the year . I do think Belpre could be a good team, but I'm just saying that it is a little misleading to act like they return their entire starting lineup.

CJ if you use eagle20's logic and count biddy league, junior high and JV I would assume every team in the state is returning 5 players who have started.

What eagles20 is tryin to say is that Waderker and Watkins both started games last year as did Logue and Azar who also return, Belpre had a lot of different lineups. I saw almost every single one of Belpres games and Pfalzgraf started every game but one he was there and Lynch started all but 2 or 3. Tate, Sims and Loyland were the other regular starters and Tate and Sims started almost every game. Loyland was out with injury, so that put Watkins in the starting lineup at the end of the year. Waderker started 3 or 4 games in a row, then did not start again after that. So Watkins and Waderker both have some experience on varsity.

ImAllIn- Erik Waderker dressed varsity after the first game. There was 2 spots open on varsity and Coach Plummer told the JV team there were 2 spots open, and someone was gonna have to work for them. Erik Waderker had a good JV game against Fort Frye the first game, so he earned one of the spots the second game of the year. Tyler Watkins started playin varsity about the third or fourth game of the season and his playing time went up significantly after Micah left.

anyway heres how i see it...

1. Alexander- returns All-TVC performer kyle barnehouse and 2-time all-tvc performer greg frost, who does it all, rebounds, runs the point, scores and passes, add eric tolar in the mix and this will be a tough team next year. I dont know too much about there other players but i know they lost all-tvcer leland bachus. I predict 11-1 in the league, split with belpre

2. Belpre- Belpre loses sharp shooter eric lynch, which might hurt them more than expected, i saw one game, alexander at belpre in particular, where he just took over the game and started makin shots from everywhere, but they return Mark Tate, who HAS to cut down his turnovers this year, his scoring is there and his assists are there, he just needs to cut down turnover, they also return Reggie Sims, who COULD BE the most dominant player in the TVC for the next 2 years, if he works hard and keeps a good attitude, Belpre also returns scott loyland who is more valuable than people think, he rebounds, hustles after loose balls, takes charges, he does the dirty work for belpre. Belpre returns two sophomores Watkins and Waderker who both have valuable varsity experience and two seniors John Logue who is a defensive specialist and Jared Azar who showed some nice improvement this year. I predict 10-2, split with VC and Alex

3. Vinton County- this team seems to just reload year after year, but this year, i just cant see that happening. They lose 2-time TVC-Ohio POY Dustin Guthrie, sharpshooter ryan stewart and andrew eberts who could also shoot the ball. The Vikings return Jake Prater and Andy Grillo from the starting lineup. Prater could be a dominant force in the paint, but i dont know how he will do without everyone doubling on guthrie. Grillo is the best point guard in the TVC and will just to continue to improve, he needs to work on his jumper and outside shot though. Ethan Allen also returns who can play some defense, they also got Dylan Guthrie and Steven Thompson who both dressed varsity last year and play a lot considering VC was blowing everyone out. I predict 9-3 in conference, split with belpre and lost twice to alex

4. Meigs- they return both Bolins (Clay and Cameron) and Jacob Well. They lose chris goode and not too sure about any other players. Belpre, Alex and VC are far and beyond the level of the bottom 4 teams. Meigs could sneak up on someone though. I predict 6-6 wins the games they need too

5. Athens- They return Matt Witten and that is pretty much all i know about them. I predict 3-9 in conference, split with wellston

6. Wellston- this team could surprise some people. If Jeff Matteson and Slone Cales get there heads on straight, they both could be very good players, both will be juniors next season and have to mature and lead the rockets. Rockets are one year away...I predict 2-10, split with N-Y and athens

7. Nelsonville- returns Barrick from a bad team last year, he is there only scoring threat so opposing defenses can focus on him, N-Y wont be any better...I predict 1-11, split with wellston

I predict All-TVC Ohio as followed:
POY- Greg Frost, Alexander
Kyle Barnehouse, Alexander
Eric Tolar, Alexander
Zach Bobo- Alexander
Mark Tate, Belpre
Scott Loyland, Belpre
Reggie Sims, Belpre
Jake Prater, VC
Andy Grillo, VC
Ethan Allen- VC
Clay Bolin, Meigs
Jacob Well, Meigs
Matt Witten, Athens
Jeff Matteson, Wellston
Michael Barrick, N-Y

Although Alexander will be very good at the guard spots, I believe that Belpre will be a better team around the rim. Sims, Loyland, Azar, Eaton, Leasure all around 6'4 or so and all very good rebounders. The last 2 seasons Vinton Co has owned the TVC by dominating in the paint. Belpre won't have a Guthrie but maybe the can do it by committee.

Let me weigh in here for a second, and state a couple of obvious comments. First Alexander should be the favorite, they return the most. Belpre is quite athletic, however there was a lot of team discord last season, has Coach Plummer worked through that?

However, Vinton County has the best coach in the league and returns a bunch of talent, young granted, but talented nonetheless. Yes, it hurts losing those seniors and especially Guthrie, however, it is about experience players expanding their roles and the young players accepting their roles. Coach Combs is the best at it. Let's not forget that there were freshmen that started JV and the only thing they did was go 20-0, the cupboard is not bare, by no means. Vinton County kids are winners! One more thing, Vinton County is the champion until someone beats them.

Just my opinion.

I hope to see the Vikings win it again! Jake Prater and Dylan Guthrie will be tough in the paint. Andy Grillo is a great ball handler who makes good decisions. Ethan Allen is as athletic as they come and will contribute on both ends of the floor. Taylor Reed ran point for the JV last season and showed some potential during his minutes on varisty. Brandon Clark is quick and could help mix things up on defense. Steven Thompson brings a good three point shot to the table for the Vikings. There were also some athletic freshmen who played well on JV last year that may step up for VC.All of these kids play hard and work well together. They may lack the experience that some of the other TVC teams have, but my prediction is that the Vikings will surprise some people this year and win a few games ;)

I agree 100% with your assesment. As for Belpre, Coach Plummer and his staff have everything in hand. The kids are behind coach Plummer 100%. Whenever you have young kids come up to varsity and takeover key roles from upper classmen, any program especially one with a first year coach is going to go thru growing pains. The main thing is we've got a bunch of kids, parents and adminstaitors that love Belpe Eagles Basketball.

Good Luck to All TVC teams in "09"
