I feel Speakman for Vinton County should have at least been a Special Mention pick.

It looks good overall and congrats to all the selected kids!

Naylan Yates not being a top 20 D2 player in the district is a WOW though. If he wasn't 1st team he should've been atop the 2nd team.

Looking at previous years, I seven anywhere between 10-12 players listed on the first team. Only seen 6 on the DIII boys first team this year. Just wondering why?

Also interesting to see that all 6 DIII first team players were all juniors and sophmores. Barring injury, can you guess who will be 1st team next year?

Strange but sure there is a good reason.

My next player would probably be Gunnar Short giving Fairland 3 on 1st team out of 7.

Many seem to be in agreement. Naylon Yates only a 3rd team selection?!?! Therefore I think it is a legitimate question to ask. "Did his age and being held back have something to do with this??....I'm just curious as to the thought process on whoever decided these selections-Maybe this was in the back of their minds??-If so that's not fair to the kid. Just Doesn't make sense to me-He is a definite 2nd team and maybe even 1st team. However; I will say that these individual honors are good for the players-something maybe they will tell their kids someday-"Hey Johnny I made 1st team this or that, old daddy was a player back in the day". At the end of the day though-Basketball is a TEAM sport. Many good players are not mentioned but there's only room for so many. Congratulations to all the players for the Recognition of your Hard Work and Efforts on the Hardwood and Good Luck on Future Endeavors.

I will guess him being 18 had zero to do with him not getting 1st or 2nd team....maybe being a junior had a slight percentage but who knows.

Raider,

Southeastern won 5 games in regular season. The list is chosen before the district tournament even begins. You don't give COY awards to teams that win 5 games in regular season and then all of the sudden get hot in the tournament.

Had you paid ANY attention to this thread before this post, you would have seen the list posted prior to the district finals.

I've heard the AP is 50/50 on having all-district lists next year in the SE for football and basketball...if so there won't be any state recognition.

Hopefully it doesn't come to that. I'm not seeing the bias that some are claiming and other than Naylan Yates of VC, I have no issue with anything on the girls or boys side of it.

Congrats on selections. Something to be proud of. No one here denies that a coach of his/her team selects their players. BTW underrated players playing college ball now Caleb Sheets basketball at Rio Grande and Ousely football in the OAC. I think the good guard of VC at SSU. Congrats to SE Ohio. Good luck to the Athens HS six NCAA D 1 football players as spring ball starts.

Agree with most selections. SHOCKED that just bc southeastern knocked off the #2 oak hill team and other higher seeded teams all if a sudden he's coach of the year. Coach persin definitely deserved the honor. He earned his 700 th win this season. How many other coaches get to that level. Another great coach would have been barrick from eastern. Coaches a lot like persin. They're winners
