Logan 71 The U 56 ... a final

Post by pfloyd »

Unioto 56
Logan 71 final

... My Purple & White opened the 2017-18 campaign on the road in the Land of the Shermans - Unioto ... the U at home , one of the toughest courts to walk out of with a "W" in hand ... Logan road the inside outside scoring of junior Bo Myers - 29 points for the night ... 18 in the 3rd quarter alone, 16 in a 3 minute 43 sec span at the end of the 3rd frame ...Bo Myers was unstoppable as he dropped 4 regular 2 pointers, 3 triples with the last one in the quarter an "in your face" trey from deep that had him hitting the 3 ball plus the FT as he was fouled in the process ... Bo's one man offensive onslaught started after a Logan time out at the 3:43 mark of the 3rd Logan TRAILING 37-39 ... Myers outscored Unioto 16-6 the rest of the quarter giving the Purple & White Chiefs the lead for good after 3 qtrs. 53-45 ... Logan outscored Unioto 44- 27 in the second half ... as the damage was done by Myers in the 3rd the 4th quarter had Myers adding 9 more points to lead Logan to a walk off 71-56 win over the Shermans ...

... to Coach Hoops team's credit, this one could have been put away in the first half of action as Logan jumped out to a 16-8 lead at the end of 1 on the strength of 6-7 Caiden Landis' opening quarter 7 points including a monster 2 hand dunk to open the night's scoring followed by a deep triple to give LHS a 5-0 lead ... the entire starting 5 for Logan dented the scoring column in the quarter ... Logan 16 Unioto 8 after 1 ... the U chipped away at the Logan lead in the 2nd with the clock stopped from the free throw line ... UHS went to the line for 13 FTs in the quarter connecting on 12 ... it was great to see senior big man Peyton Hill come off the bench and make a MAJOR impact netting 6 points but more importantly making his presence felt at both ends in the paint ... the Shermans took the lead from LHS with :41 seconds to play in the second 26-25 when Logan big man in the middle Landis hit a putback bucket and got fouled ... Landis went to the line with only seconds to play in the 2nd quarter , missed the FT , UHS rebounded the ball, a quick outlet to Chance Smith who hit a 30+ foot 3 ball as the buzzer sounded ... Unioto 29 Logan 27 at intermission ... but as we all know a lead at the half doesn't put the W in the win column on our handy dandy pocket schedules ... following the 2nd half " Bo Show" - Logan 71 Unioto 56 a final ...

... Pfloyd's Official "unofficial" Napkin Stats - Unioto ...

Scoring ... Brandon Kennedy 17, Logan Swackhammer 10, Gabe Fisher 9, Peyton Hill 9, Chance Smith 9, Nick Adkins 2
3 Pointers ... 6/18 ... Brandon Kennedy 3, Chance Smith 3
FT's ........... 17/22
TOs ........... 8
PNP ........... 9 fgs for 18 points in the paint
Transition Points ... 0

... Pfloyd's Official "unofficial" Napkin Stats - Logan ...

Scoring .............. Bo Myers 29 , Caiden Landis 15, Coby Bell 11, Wes Brooks 7, Caleb Bell 3, Landon Little 3, Layton Cassady 3
3 Pointers ... 9/21 ... Bo Myers 4 , Caleb Bell 1, Caiden Landis 1, Wes Brooks 1, Landon Little 1, Layton Cassady 1
FTs ............ 8/10
TOs ............ 9
PNP ........... 18 fgs/ 36 points in the paint
Transition Points ... 4 pts

... Both teams had solid games ... well played with both teams having less than 10 TOs for the game ... the difference in the game was Logan "goto" player/scorer Bo Myers did what he is capable of doing both in the paint and from the perimeter ( 27 points in less than 1 and 1/2 quarters) while Unioto's "goto" player/scorer Logan Swackhammer was held in check with 10 points and only 2 fgs on the game ... Myers 29 Swackhammer 10 equates to Logan 71 Unioto 56 a final ... add to the mix Logan doubled down on the U with 36 points in the Paint vs UHS had 18 ...

... Unioto will be a solid team this season for sure , all of the pieces are their for Coach Hoops & Company ... best of luck to the U the rest of the season ! for my Purple - a great opening game win on the road - the Chiefs are solid 1-7 ... early foul trouble was offset by good bench play from both Landon Little (3) and Layton Cassady (3) ... Wes Brooks did what HE needs to do tonight as well being a starter - distribute & take care of the ball AND be that scoring threat where teams HAVE TO account for him as Wes dropped 7pts with a three ball in the mix ... Logan goes to 1-0 ... the U 0-1 ...

Freshman game : Coach Bruce's Shermans beat Logan 39-30

JV Logan 39
JV Unioto 33

I did VisionQuest ! I got to see half of the 3rd and all of the 4th quarters ! BC is ... well BC LOL lots of guards who drive, dish and shoot the 3 ball ... Naylan Yates gutted out the entire game with a bad ankle, the young man could barely walk on it let alone try to play D vs the speed of the BC perimeter people (all of the them - basically 5 guards) ... VC played a solid BC team - VC had one starter not dress in Nevan Yates, Naylan Yates at less than 50% as he couldn't take it to the rim, only shooting the perimeter shot on one leg more or less ... Jake Speakman is a work in progress trying to learn to be a PG who has to make decisions with the ball ... I was impressed with all 3 of the VC BIGS ! - Bryce Damron, Eli Griffith, Cameron Hammon ... VC made one of their runs in the 3rd getting the score down to a 4 point game on the shoulders of their BIGS ... It looks like VC is trying to find it's identity - in the recent past the Vikings have been totally guard oriented NOW their strength is on the inside with the BIGS - EVERYONE is figuring out NEW roles - when things appeared to work - the bigs were involved, when VC made mistakes ( untimely turnovers) was when the perimeter folks tried to do too much, instead of getting the bigs involved ... talent is there albeit injured right now, learning to feed the post players, working inside first then to the outside ... VC is a different team from even last years team - a definite work in progress ... right now they need to get Yates' x2 healthy !

Three things that hurt the Tanks . Logans defense (example : Held Swack to 2 FG) Logans passing ( all are skilled in ball movement ) inability to pressure the ball out front or press. Hats off to the Chiefs and Tanks will be back in winning form very soon . 2 very good ball teams . I will be rooting for both teams rest of season .
