This is huge for Meigs. Look for them to really kick it up. They really are very well coached and when they execute and shoot decent from the perimeter, they will be very successful.

Are you here at the game tonight?

Alex should win this one. Need to shoot well against the zone. Usually a struggle against Meigs.

Go Alex.
Yes I was at game, surprised we controlled the game with as many turnovers we had.
This was a good win for Meigs. It was a little sloppy, but Alexander's inability to beat a zone killed them tonight. I was also amazed at how Alexander did not defend as well as normal. Meigs got to the rim at will and moved Terry outside way too easy so he could not impact the lane on the defensive end.

Meig's guards out played Alexander's. Congratulations to Meigs. Alexander will be back.

Go Alex.

Thanks, yeah our guards played more physical tonight on defense as usual, helps they are all healthy finally. Darst stepped up tonight after being away for a few games. And the freshman that started done great for his minutes in the game....it's been a long time coming to get the kids healthy and playing as a team.

I was very impressed with the early energy and tone set by Meigs. From the moment Meigs came out for warm ups you could tell they had business on their minds.

Meigs is very well coached, which typically leads to Meigs firing or running a coach off.

Meigs is NOT well coached, the last few years it was the boys on the court that executed on the court. I'd like to know what your definition of well coached means???

Benny Ewing = Horrible Coach (Made it to Convo)
David Kight = Horrible Coach (Made it to Convo)
Ed Fry = Most Wins because of Talent he has had the lat few years. Sheets, Lilly, Kennedy, Musser, Mahr, Mattox, Bartrum and Baer.

A good Coach would not be little players and have them quit because of his word, putting them down and making fun of them.

The last 2 games the talent has taken over, Yes they are 2-9 because of injuries, BUT if players wouldn't have quit because of the so called good coach, he would have had talent to step in during the injuries.

Have you ever seen him coach? All he does is tell the boys to keep there hands up, A good coach doesn't sit down if your down by 10 with 2 minutes left to go and give up on the players (have seen this on many occasions, especially in tournament play)

A good coach makes in game adjustments, if they are killing you hitting the 3 pointers, change the defense, do some element of surprise changes. Many games we have lost by a few points, a good coach would have found a way to win those games.

We have not won a tvc ohio title with him, we have not won a sectional with him.

Just because he has the most wins in 30 years, does not make him a good coach, his assistant came in knowing nothing about the game of basketball, a good coach gets a good assistant.

If you have noticed Fry also coaches the JV, The JV is 0-10, was leading in the Alex game going in at half, scored 2 points the whole second half and lost big. where was the changes at by a good coach? I know JV doesn't mean anything, but those are players that will be Varsity next year, still need to coach them.

You can base his good coaching on the Wins the previous 2 years, but no matter who was coaching, that talent would have produced those Wins. Everyone knew those Meigs kids were going to be winners since biddy league. Just like the group of 8th graders this year, everyone knows once those boys get up to Varsity they will produce Wins. With a great coach, they will make a great tourney run. That is what a great coach does.

So please list all the qualities that makes Fry a great Coach? What does he do to Win the important games? What is his record versus VC, What is his record versus Athens, What is his record versus Fairfield Union. Yeah he can get wins against the below .500 teams.

Back up those claims with something other then he has the most wins.

Unfortunately, being an average coach for Meigs makes you a "great coach" because no other coach has been able to do it. (See Kight, Ewing, Abbott, Wolfe, Stout, Skinner, Harrison, Bookman, etc.)

Can you run these stats for our football coach? What do they tell you about him? Just curious.

Ah geez, another Meigs school board member on here running his yap about coaching. Let me guess. This isnt the way they did it at Rutland in the 1950s. Why dont you go get a coaching credential and show us all how it oughta be done. And dont try to deny your position on the board. We all know who you are. Have you publicly announced that we are looking for a new coach yet? You know. The same way you did with our football coach.

Reply:

Meigs has not won the TVC since 1987. They have won three sectionals since then, each of those were only one game to advance. So, no coach has won any significant championships. Every other year Meigs has a junior high class that will become the “saviors” of the program when they get to high school. Yet, it never happens. This year’s senior class was great in junior high. Not one of those kids are on the team now. Meigs is notorious for being “junior high champs”. They stop growing and often lose interest. No, it is not easy to find assistant coaches because no one wants to coach at Meigs because Meigs runs varsity coaches out every 2-3 years. Really tough to get teachers to coach anymore.
