Finally got to take in the Chiefs tonight. Plenty of gluten free snacks to go around - also Chick-fil-a sandwiches for the unenlightened (vegetarian/vegan is the majority up here, LOL).
Good win for the Chiefs against an above average - but not great - OCC opponent. But in reality, not many Logan basketball teams have been good enough to beat many AVERAGE OCC teams. So always a good win "above the Lancaster-Dixon line."
Celtics did a nice job containing Bo Myers - holding him to 14 points. Jerome did a good job of "holding" Myers on cuts and screens to keep the ball out of his hands. Lucas House had 24 for Jerome to lead all scorers. He was bombs away from behind the arc.
Landis opened the game on an 8-0 run, leading to a Jerome TO with 3:49 to play in the first quarter. Bo Myers knocked down his first bucket - a lay up after getting his own rebound on a missed three. Cassady knocked down a big three - his only shot of the game - after Brooks sat with two fouls.
Logan led 17-12 after one.
Brooks re-entered with two fouls at the 5:00 mark and Myers knocked down his first three at the 4:30 mark of the second quarter. Myers got a rest from just under 4:00 minutes for about :55.
Logan stretched the lead to 30-23 at halftime.
Chiefs didn't score for nearly two and a half minutes in the 3rd quarter when Caleb Bell knocked down a jumper. The junior played a really solid all around game - more productive than I expected.
Logan ended the third with a big run that seemed to put the game out of reach. Landis knocked down a step back three to get the lead back to 7 (39-32), and after a Jerome bucket Myers answered with a three ball to make it 42-34 with 1:36 to play in the third. A Jerome turnover led to a Coby Bell lay-up after a nifty fake alley-oop to Landis giving Logan it's first double digit lead (44-34) with 1:06 to go. Caleb Bell knocked down a three from the top of the key to give Logan it's largest lead of the night - 47-34 - wtih :43 to play in the third.
The third quarter ended with Logan leading by the same score, 47-34.
Logan played tight in the 4th Q - and Jerome nearly pulled some de ja vu on the purple and white. Some key moments that aided victory include a DJ lane violation wtih 4:15 to go when the Celtics had cut the lead to 51-44. Logan took the air out of the ball with about 3:00 to play, probably a little too early.
With 2:20 to play, House knocked down a three ball to make the score 53-49. Caleb Bell missed the front end of a 1 and 1 with 1:09 to play, and Jerome got a scrappy put-back after a loose ball to make the score 53-51 Chiefs after an aggressive half court trap resulted in a Logan turnover. But with 38 seconds to go, the trap backfired on Jerome when Myers made a back door cut for a lay-up extending the lead to 55-51 with :38 left. Logan missed the front end of the 1 and 1 with :23 to play, but Myers knocked down a pair of free throws wtih :07 to seal the win.
Final: Logan 57, Jerome 51

Good win for Logan . I like the more balance scoring . That could be their strong point. Keep winning Logan . Makes the Sherman look even better.
