List what you think are the top 5 from your school. Also if you will list if they played in college.

Jackson:

Ed Spriggs 6’8 early 60’s. Scored 1858 points in 3 years and twice averaged over 30 ppg for a season. Averaged 20 rebounds per game over his career as well. Played in college for the University of Miami Hurricanes

Brad Howe 6’5 (1996) 2nd all-time leading scorer with around 1600. Played 4 years at Capital and was their all time leader in 3 point FG by the time he graduated. I believe over 1500 points as well

Allen Collins 6’1 (1983) amassed over 1,000 career points. Baseball his main sport though and played double AA and Tripe AAA ball for Indians, Expos and Yankees

Matt Walburn 5’10 (1993) amassed 1,000+ points and one of Jackson’s all-time best shooters. He was a big golfer and went to school in Carolina for a while for that.

Pat Stevens 5’11 (1985) 20+ ppg his last two years, great shooter. Went on to play at Wilmington and surpassed 1,000 there.

I played against Collins in basketball and baseball in high school. He hung 35 points (no 3pt line) on us one night, but like you said, he was better baseball player. Collins threw hard and made it to AAA.

I won't dive back into the late 60's or early 70's, but Athens had some good ones back in the day ...

PG - Griffin Lutz (2017) - one of the few 1,000 point scorers in Athens history.
SG - Joe Burrow (2014) - smoothest shot for a 6'4 kid that I've probably ever seen, at Athens anyways. Also a 1,000 point scorer.
SF - Scott Decaminada (1990) - terrific all around player and one of the better athletes I can ever remember sporting the green and gold.
PF - Steve Brunning (1983) - I believe Steve went on to play at Ohio University. The other 1,000 scorer (only three in Athens history)
C - Sonny Kalu (1994) - Wasn't sure where I'd go with the C position, but you can't really go wrong with Sonny. He dominated the SEOAL for three years.

You didn’t have to go by position...I mean I listed 3 shooting guards

Wheelersburg

1. Todd Staker-6’3” 1981-1984-started as a Sophomore-guard who could jump out of the gym. Played on two Final Four teams, 82 as a Sophomore and 84 as Senior. Burg made it to the finals in 84 losing to future NBA player Jerome Lane and Akron St. Vincent 75-71. Todd averaged around 30 in the tourney that year.

2. Andrew Burleson-6’6”, 1998-2002- started as a Freshman-could play about anywhere. Sweet shot and good hops. Could handle the ball very well for being 6’6”. I believe he is the all time leading scorer at Burg.

3. Brad Walke-6’1”, 1980-1983-started as a Sophomore. Guard who could shoot from anywhere or take you off the dribble. If three point shot would have be around he would have scored some serious points. Played on the Burg Final Four team of 81-82.

4. Jonathon Eaton-6’1”-1991-1995-started as a Freshman come tourney time helping lead A Burg team, that I believe had a losing record going to the tourney, all the way to the Regional Final. Playmaker who was good at driving to the basket and dishing off or making the shot. Helped lead Burg to the Final Four in 95 where they lost to a strong Orrville team in the state finals. Upset a strong Cols Bishop Hartley team in the semifinals.

5. Cam Miller-6’7”-2004-2007-started as a Sophomore. Good balhandler for his size. Could shoot the three or beat you off the dribble for a thunderous dunk. Helped lead Burg to back to back Final Fours in 2006 and 2007.

Unioto

1. Matt Combs (1992) He is (not for long) the all time leading scorer in SVC history and helped lead Unioto to the State Championship game in 1991. Scored over 1,700 career points with about 1,650 coming in his last 3 seasons. Played at Wilmington. Now has won 300 games as a varsity coach and has a great program at Vinton County.

2. Jason Cruse (1995) 6'7 lefty who was an all around wonder. Great passer and rebounder. School's leader in rebounding and scored over 1,100 points. Played at Rio Grande before transferring to Embry-Riddle where he was NAIA D2 Player of the Year and led them to a National Championship his Sr year

3. Mike Fout (1996) great defender and shooter. Scored nearly 1,400 points and was the school's leader in 3's made for a time. One of the pillars of "Sherman Showtime" in the mid 90's.

4. Logan Swackhammer (2018) resume is finished yet, but is the school's all time leader in Games Played, Assists, and Steals. Single game leader in Assists. Will likely pass the 1,000 point mark in the next week or so as well. Will continue his career at Flagler College (D2) next year. Could easily be moved up this list.

5. Nick Corcoran (2015) 2-time SVC Player of the Year (something only him and Cruse have done), while scoring over 1,000 points. School's current leader in 3's made (will likely be passed in the next couple of weeks), and single game 3's made. He was the catalyst for the Shermans 26-1 2015 season. Great shooter and scorer and a sneaky defender as well.

There were only 2 other 1,000 point scorers in school history and they were both before my time and neither one had a lot of school success, which is why I didn't have them in the Top 5.

Brandon Kennedy (2018), Erique Hosley (2016), David Huffman (1998), Matt Hoops (1996), Jeff Miller (1991), Dave Juenger (1969), Dale Haynes (1967), Don Neff (1955), and Paul Brown (1946) are some other greats from Unioto's past.

I always thought if Burleson put as much into football as he did basketball, he could have been a big time college qb. With his size and athleticism I think he could have played anywhere. Young man had all the tools.

I also played against Walke and Staker at Wheelersburg. Both top flight players. Walke also was a very good shortstop.

He was as difficult to guard as anyone I’ve ever played against. Absolutely ridiculous versatility on the ball court.

At Logan:

Mark Shaw, '71 - averaged over 20 points and 20 rebounds his senior season and over 20 and 18 as a junior. 2nd all-time leading scorer.

Coy Lindsey, '97 - all-time leading scorer. Great guard who could shoot the lights out.

Kerry York, '86 - had his senior season cut short due to an ankle injury. Was on pace for a 1,000 point career (without playing Varsity as a freshman)

Greg Poston, '68 - school's first 1,000 point scorer. Just a tremendous all-around athlete.

Keith Myers, '86 - teamed up with York for the best two-year run in school history, including a 22-2 season in '85-'86. That team won 21 straight even after York's knee injury and Keith picked up the slack.

This list doesn't include 1,000 point scorers Doug Stiverson ('89) or Patrick Angle ('10).

Others for consideration:
Eddie Joe Grandy ('53)
Gene Morgan ('56)
George Stump ('60)
Jim Pierce ('74?)
Tim Moore ('89)
Eric Burris ('93?)
Kevin Fisher ('14)
Bo Myers ('19)

Anybody else I'm missing, Chieftain fans?
