Well Ironton can’t beat Coal Grove in football and now basketball. Sounds like to me that the boys basketball coach/athletic director needs to really reflect on himself and his program as well as other programs. These coaches at Ironton need to quit blame the kids but instead look at themselves. Ironton needs a huge change at all levels!

I know what your saying but Ironton only had one kid that could start for CG..So Lafon did pretty well splitting with them

Ironton is 5-14 after tonight
Their only wins are Greenfield McClain 2-17, Rock Hill twice by 2 points each time who is 1-17, Chesapeake who is 5-13, and Coal Grove who is 14-4.
That’s not very good. I know the potential of this group of kids in basketball and football and it’s not matching the production so it has to be coaching!
Does anyone know when boys basketball team had a winning season?

Didn't they last year? They also reached the Regionals in 2015. I feel like coaching probably isn't the problem here, especially if they are also not having success in other sports.

Coaching is not the problem with basketball. He just doesn't have very good players. Coaching says a lot of he best CG once and only lost by 4 with way less talent

Cg missed a lot of shots which needs cleaned up before the tournament starts. Seems they have went a different way these last few games. Should have been (and I day that lightly) been a lot worse , but it is what it is

The players are there . The coach seems to ride the kids the wrong way when they're pulled for rest .
Nothing but negative comments. I was right behind the bench .

I don't see that it is fair to say that Ironton has talent issues as they are just guard heavy. Losing their height/rebounding to graduation and transfer(Ashland) is the biggest change. Although I see Lafon as an effective coach he plays the same style every year. This team needs to be more wide open with the offense. Hard to get lots of wins if your goal is to win every game 45-39. If I recall correctly this Ironton Junior class only lost 2-3 games in 8th grade.
Playing the schedule they did and their size disadvantage against Ptown, Gallipolis and Fairland makes it hard to win.
This game was hard fought and pretty cleanly played. Both teams shot poorly but most shots were physically contested.
Nice job by the Hornets sinking free throws to close the game out. Keep up the defensive effort and unselfish team play.
Go Big Grove!

The Grove needs to take the ball to the hole more and penetrate more. Can't rely on 3's all the time....ive been around a long time and this ironton worst talent in some time..wilsons good. Carrico I'd just a frosh..thats about it

I believe the last winning season Ironton had was year before last. Ironton has been to the district, regional and state way more times than CG..if in not mistaken CG hasn't done anything since maybe 1998. So don't go there about records. CG has one good year and in both sports and you go crazy. Do it year in and year out and then you have a ptogram

What a laugher! People questioning Mark Lafon’s coaching ability! You prove you know nothing about basketball, stick to what you know.
