So if I picked JG by 6 and they win by 100....do I get 0 points, -20 or -74?

In this contest you get 0. I think. Which would be the same amount of points you would get if you picked Unioto. So, since you CANT get less points by picking JG then someone who picked Unioto then it has to be 0.

But, that also doesn’t make sense because you picked the correct team — John Glenn and you should receive more points than someone who picked Unioto.

To my credit, once we got to regionals I didn’t anticipate any 20+ point blowouts, let alone 40+ point blowouts.

Next year I’ll change it to +50 for picking the correct winner... then someone will probably lose by 75 and complain but oh well.

Bbjunky81— it’s a good contest. People like it. You had several play in both. Just separate one from the other and you have no conflicts.

Give 20 points for picking the winner and up to 20 bonus points for the margin. Well, that’s if you think picking the winner and the correct margin are equal.

Your contest is different because it stresses Margin and I think that’s why people liked it

If you want to value the pick give 30 for the right pick and up to 15 or 20 bonus for the margin.

If you want to value the margin then only give 5 or 10 for the pick and up to 30 bonus points for the margin.

Last night if Ironman picked JG and gave 6 as the margin he could receive 20 for the correct pick and 0 bonus. Someone who picked Unioto would get 0.

You could even reward someone who nails the margin.
Last night Ironman picks Meadowbrook by 3.

20 points for the pick. All 20 bonus points for Margin and 10 more for being perfect.

If you picked 4/6 right you start off at 40, 5/6 you start off at 80.. 2/6 you're already at -40... 1/6 you would be at -80... and 0/6 is an automatic -120.

OHHS Old Timer is the only one to nail a margin correctly WITH the winner.

I plan on making one for the State Tournament after this weekend when the teams are set. I will be making some minor adjustments to the scoring system that way this many negatives wont happen again. Maybe bump picking the winner to +50, picking the incorrect winner -25, and if you nail the margin you get +50 bonus points or something.
