State Tournament 2018

Post by bsee12345 »

Thursday
Division IV
Berlin Hiland 23-5 vs Cornerstone Christian 20-7
Pandora Gilboa 26-1 vs Marion Local 23-4

Division III
Lutheran East 14-13 vs Cincinnati Deer Park 27-0
Harvest Prep 28-0 vs Columbus Africentric 21-6

Friday
Division II
Trotwood Madison 25-3 vs Byesville Meadowbrook 22-6
Lexington 23-5 vs Akron SV/SM 18-8

Division I
Cincinnati Moeller 25-3 vs Lorain 21-5
Pickerington Central 18-8 vs Solon 26-1

Some interesting matchups. Tickets will a plenty in the Division III games- Those 4 teams have very small fan bases.
Pickerington Central vs Solon is a boys matchup but those 2 schools played for the Girls Division I Championship.
Division IV
Would love to see Berlin Hiland win to have a great Championship atmosphere on Saturday AM because Pandora Gilboa or Marion Local will bring the town.
Division III
Probably the best matchups but lack state tournament atomsphere because of the schools small fan bases. Cincinnati Deer Park will driver 2 hours and bring as many fans as Lutheran East, Harvest Prep and Africentric combined.
Division II
On paper Trotwood and Akron SV/SM are on a collision course for the Championship but would love to see a couple of upsets in this division.
Division I
Moe has to be the favorite but anything can happen in Division I as history has shown.

I'm pulling for Pickerington Central in D1. I mean, you've got a Junior guard who is committed to UNC, doesn't play a second all season and you still reach the Schott. That's really impressive.

I'll take Trotwood in D2, Harvest Prep in D3, and Hiland in D4.

Interesting note about the D3 Tournament or aka The D4 Competitive Balance Division—- Deer Park is making their first trip to The Final 4. I read that they have had 8 players move in over the last 2 years. I wasn’t sure if that was accurate or believable—- then on Cincinnati.com Adam Baum wrote an article and the coach commended his kids on not listening to all of the noise around them and how well they handled the OHSAA investigation.... so... it’s an interesting group of teams for sure.

I bet they heard a lot in the CHL, because kids leave that league, they don't move into it. Heck, Finneytown is terrible because they had 2 big time recruits go to Princeton before last year.

Unbelievable and Wheelersburg still getting trashed on here for one or two transfers.

Always good to see some first timers at the state.......Solon in D1, Byesville Meadowbrook in D2, Cincinnati Deer Park in D3, and Pandora-Gilboa in D4. Having 4 divisions allows more schools a chance to reach the biggest stage in high school basketball. I know there is a lot of controversy and debate about creating a level playing field for all schools, and the perpetual argument about public vs. private, but these 4 schools are now members of a special fraternity......state tournament participants. And there will more new members added in the future, some public, some private, some heavy with transfers, some with home grown talent. So the hope of getting there at least once is still a reality.

CC moves on by about 10. Hiland was in it early in the 4th, only down 4, but CC had what it takes to advance.

51-41. Cornerstone got out to a 16-5 lead and Hiland couldn’t get back over the top. 5-15 from 3 also hurt

Johnson went to the bench with 3 fouls at 39-35 PG mid 3rd.

It’s currently 40-39 ML with 2:00 left in 3rd.

:53 left in 3rd. 42-39. Johnson back in. 7-0 run with him on bench for ML. PG needs him to stay clean rest of way. PG hits 2 FT at :00 of quarter.

42-41 end of 3. Marion Local over Pandora Gilboa
