Should be an outstanding game and I predict closer than most think. Warren is young with 2 Sophomore Merritt and Dennis as starters and another Chevalier playing major minutes. It’ll take these young bucks a few games to settle into a rhythm. Seniors Noah Nichols, Clay Miller and Alex Barta will be a calming influence in the younger players.
Marietta has a dynamic duo is Sophomores Tony Munos and Mark Duckworth. Both can create and both can get to rim breaking down a defense causing all kind of havoc. Senior Derek Duckworth will stroke the long ball. Marietta will be small but should be able to hang their hat on the defense.
With the game at Marietta and for the above reasons I think Warren will win the game but by less than 10 points.

Should be a tight game tonight in Marietta..We will see how the warriors handle some adversity tonight. 3 Sophomores playing big rolls in a hostile environment along with w/ Simoniette playing his first game @ warren. I’ll take the boys in blue by 9
Warriors on paper should win by more then that but if Marietta can make the warriors uncomfortable early it could get interesting with this new group of Warriors.

Congratulations to Marietta, Warren’s first loss to an in-county team (Marietta, Fort Frye, Waterford, Belpre) since at least 2010.

Big win for the Tigers. Not sure why a rival game like this is scheduled on opening night? Both teams played hard but as expected in the first game of the season, many things to take back to practice for much improvement. First victory for Marietta over Warren in a long time.

In the near decade since Marietta has won a game, several times the Tigers have been in good position to win late and succumbed to the stifling Warren defense and lost the games. Last night they weathered an 16-4 run by the Warriors to start the 2nd half and fell behind 40-34. The Tigers battled back and closed the deficit to 2 on a trey by Graham to close the 3rd quarter. The spirited battle continued to the 4th qtr and the Tigers took a 57-54 lead with about 2:25 left on a great lay-up by Mannix, and then got the ball back with the same lead. Warren had heavy pressure on and Marietta nearly turned it over twice when Warren was able to knock the ball into the back court each time, one was ruled OB off Warren and the other was falsely ruled over and back when the ref on the ball correctly overruled the ref in the back court. Warren called a time-out with the same 57-54 score at 1:36, and Marietta turned it over twice in a short period and and Warren scored 5 points from the TOs with the 3rd trey by Nichols giving the Warriors a 59-57 lead. Graham promptly nailed his 3rd trey of the game giving back a 60-59 lead with 35 sec left. Then Nichols made 2 FTs to give Warren the lead 61-60 with 30 sec left. Munoz made the 2nd of 2 FTs with 4.7 sec left that sent the game to OT tied at 61.

Mark Duckworth made a duece to start the scoring in the 1st minute of OT and Simoniette matched that to tie it at 63. Then Munoz made a 3 pt play to put the Tigers up by 3. Duckworth went to the line for 2 FTs that would have put the Tigers up 5, but he missed both and reached in on the rebound and fouled Nichols and he made both FTs to cut it to 66-65 with about 2 min left. That fouled out Mark and gave him a spot on the bench beside his brother who had fouled out mid-way thru the 4th qtr, soon after he had re-entered the game and made 2 big FTs giving the Tigers a 53-50 lead. Also on the bench was Graham who had taken a shot to the jaw not too long after he made his last big trey in the last minute of regulation. Witucky made 2 FT with 1:28 left in OT to put the Tigers up 68-65. Then Miracle made made the first of 2 FTs to make it 69-65 with 38 sec left, then made a great block on a left corner trey attempt that he tipped several feet after it left the shooters hand. Then Munoz made the 1st of 2 FTs with 20 sec left to make it 70-65. That was followed by a Barta deuce and then 2 made FTs by Munoz and the final score of the game a trey by Barta to make the final 72-70. A very hard fought, exciting game.

Did the Merritt boy get hurt? Just looking at stats surprised he didn’t have more?

I think he was a good contributor to the big rebounding edge. I didn't notice that he got hurt.
