On the defensive end tonight they played like they still had loveday under the basket They got so used to him sinking back in and challenging whoever headed toward basket. That they could overplay the top way morecand againstva lot ofvteams not fairland they can get away trailing some guys toward basket.

I don’t know if this was a coaching problem or just a habit team in that will take a little while to break. I thought they would come out and play the style they played to open game and if they could disrupt fairland stay with it.

But it was like they had no 2nd plan.

And you are surprised there was no second plan? Have you watched this staff the last few years?

I was really impressed with Fairland how they ran their offense they look like a well oil machine. That starts with coaching and you could tell this team was very well coached and played team basketball something that Gallia didn’t do we played too much indivitual basketball our offense had no movement what so ever. Our coaches didn’t make no half time adjustments.j

I have seen all kinds of times we have sexondvand third plans. And sometimes you only have talent to do certain things.

Really by the time you got to half time tonight you were sort of stuck in the style of play. At least on defensive end on offensive end. A lot of the problems were kids trying to do too much. Instead of letting game come to them.

As far as coaching staff goes there are some coaches on that staff that know what they are doing and our solid basketball coaches.

There is a huge problem there during games that the coaches are not on same page and that is head coaches fault. Something there needs to improve

I would like to know what time the varsity contest began. I got there at about 7:35 pm and the game was well into the 2nd quarter.

Probably 7:16 or so. I had a previous thing I had to attend and I got there right after the tip like 7:50 in 1st when I got in gym.

I agree fairland offense well oiled machine. On that back door cuts. But they also had a plan that when Gallia trapped up top the guy the double cane off of just went and stood at basket.

The problem is they were just faster at every position then the blue devils. Very well coached team. Indeed

Fairland
FG 27-33 (82%) (eFG% - 86%)
3pt FG 3-5 (60%)
FT 16-21 (76%)

Gallia Academy
FG 16-43 (37%) (eFG% - 41%)
3p FG 3-10 (30%)
FT 9-16 (56%)

But I think the telling stat of the game was:
Assists
Fairland - 19
Gallia Academy - 4

Fairland is one of the most fundamental teams ive seen. Thomas is a natural born leader

There’s no doubt that Fairland is doing something right. You don’t lose the personnel they did and come back with a season like this one unless you are doing things the right way.

Jackson is building something as well. Should be a good one today.

You have to jump out to a lead on fairland with the offense they run ,if you fall behind it is very difficult to catch up ,they will milk every second of the clock they can ,not exiting basketball but definitely works .

They beat my TROJANS pretty good and I don't know who had more fans yawning ,them or us LOL .

Definitely the quiteist crowd I've ever heard.

And I agree about Thomas ,I made the comment at the game, like having a coach on the floor

biggdowgg is absolutely right, you definitely have to get the lead on the Dragons from the get go, otherwise playing catch up is really difficult with the way they run their offense. Thomas is without question one of the most fundamentally sound players in the SE district. His passing is outstanding, and you cannot give him any space to shoot. Coach Speed has done a tremendous job with these kids, considering that FHS lost their top 6 players from last season. I had the Dragons preseason 5th in the OVC, but right now they look along with Ironton as the teams to beat.

When you can shoot 95% layups you can shoot like they shot last night and you can't leave Thomas wide open either. You can not play them man to man on defense you have to play a 2/3 zone and stop them getting all those back door cuts. Gallia press was allowing them to get layup after layup because they where use to Loveday being on the back side to stop all that. Fairland caught Gallia at the right time after beating South Point Tuesday by 11 points and really playing a good game. Gallia is still trying to find out how they need to play without Loveday I hope they get things fixed quickly or it could be a long rest of the season.

My concern was that we played strictly on emotion Tuesday against SP. Emotion can only be sustained for a a short time. Fundamentals and preparation are paramount to our success this season. I still hope I’m wrong about that but I guess we will see as the season progresses. Hopefully last night was an aberration. Go Blue Bleed Blue!!

I know some Blue Devil people who will say that this was a big problem even when Loveday was there.
