Wheelersburg vs Russell, 1/22/19

Post by burgfella69 »

I know nothing about Russell other than they're your normal Kentucky squad, a few skilled players, little bit of length, not noticeably big or physical. Anybody got any names or good things for Russell?

They are down, considerably down for them. Greenup County is 4-12 on the season and Russell lost to them.

I can't foresee this one staying within 25 points.

Wheelersburg 83
Russell 64

Russell came to play in this one and stayed with 6 to 10 points most of the game and actually led a couple times in the first half. Number 24 for Russell shot the 3 ball really well and had at least 6 and maybe 7 in the game. Burg had 17 turnovers which helped keep the Red Devils in it until the 4th quarter when the Pirates finally pulled away for the 19 point win. Tanner Holden led all scorers with 50 and could have scored 60+ if he hit some of the lay ups and free throws he missed.

I'm surprised this game was even this close, Russell is terrible this year. A win is a win though, congratulations Pirates.

I had to sit on the Russell side because of the crowd there to see the pee wee cheerleaders and the guy sitting next to me said that was best Russell had played all year. They were not intimidated by the #2 team in the state at all. Russell is young and will good next year or the year after. #24 could shoot the lights out, though he does need to get rid of acting like he's stroking a guitar after he hits one.

Is that worse than shooting a bow and arrow?

I may be in the minority but that stuff doesn’t bother me as long as A: they back it up which #24 did or B: it doesn’t cost you from getting back on defense. Kids should have fun playing a game because that’s what it is.

I don't disagree with you at all.

Just the irony of a Burg fan saying something like that is what my post was directed toward.

I'm a huge Kentucky fan and I didn't like it then either. I've always said, act like you've been there. It's just a basket or a TD. No need for the showboating.
