Road to the Schott: D4, Athens Regional

Post by formerfcfan »

I want to play a game...

The road to Columbus from ‘Quadrant IV’ has been laid in the plans of Central v. SE 2/ East vs SE 1. Who makes the ‘Sweet Sixteen?’ The round of 8, an ‘elite’ company, onward to the semifinals berth in Columbus - many will enter, one will survive!

The East District... Berlin Hiland is the Man o’ War amongst Smarty Jones (Rosecrans) and Justified (Strasburg); expect the Holmes County hoopers to be the odds’ favorite to make it to Columbus. Rosecrans can, and may, be the most likely team in the entire regional to knock of the possibly-Amish. Todd Rock has the (Zanesville) Red and the Black playing good hoops.

The Southeast 2 is primarily TBD, but the pre-seeding predictions from ‘Tri-State Youth Sports’ suggest it will be Coal Grove or Trimble.

On the other half of the bracket...
The Central is laden with three very good teams, one good team and one potential sleeper.

The Irish o’ Fisha Catholic are expected to be the #1 seed up here and predicted to make the Sweet Sixteen. Oh, how nice Green and White would look in Athens! The Irish have an incredible front-court, a very capable backcourt, great coaching and a tough schedule to make them more than prepared to reach Athens. Berne Union has an exciting come-from-behind victory against FC and boasts arguably one of the best backcourts in this regional. Centerburg is a large D4 with young potential, and good wins; and Tree of Life has good athletes and good pace-‘n-space style. Newark Catholic, the potential Cinderella, can shoot the “3” very well and has good size down low.

The emerging victor north of the ’Lancaster-Dixon line’ will face the champion of the Southeast 2 district, which could either be New Boston or (South) ‘Webster per “TSYS” rankings.

So... Sweet 16 -> Elite 8 -> Final Four...??

My thoughts:

Hiland
Trimble
Fisher
New Boston

E v SE 1 = E (Hiland/Rosecrans)
C v SE 2 = C or SE 2... if FC makes it, then FC. If not, NB or SW.

Berlin Hiland is the heavy favorite. South Webster and Coal Grove have played tough schedules

Its all Berlin Hiland. They are better than last year and won the region easily last year.
Berlin Hiland will play better competition in their East District games then the Regional.
