Logan 56 Warren 54 a final ...

Post by pfloyd »

Warren 54
Logan 56 a final

Packed house at the WarriorDome, as usual Logan Nation travels well - not much seating room for visitors BUT the Purple folks found spots and made their voices heard all night as there were many opportunities to "voice your opinion" during the varsity game LOL a physical game usually means LOTS of chances for the officiating team to use their whistles - and they did ... Logan called for 20 fouls/ Warren called for 19 ... Logan lost 3 starters in the last 2 minutes with 5 fouls each ... Warren not to be outdone lost 2 of their own ... as much as many would/will want to throw "disparaging" words towards the officials - the numbers show that it was called even both ways ... with THAT aside it WAS an outstanding game between 2 excellent TEAMS - both get after opponents defensively, both attack weaknesses in their opponents, NEITHER team giving an inch of court in the process...

... Warren/Logan ... 2 former SEOAL opponents ... D2 vs D1 ... 2 coaches with over 300 wins each in Coach Maddox & Coach Rider ... Logan entering the game bringing Bo Myers who every game this season vs any of the opponents has been/is the best player on the court with an outstanding supporting cast of seniors - Wes Brooks, Layton Cassady, Coby Bell, Caleb Bell, Landon Little ... Warren with no single outstanding player - plays as we would expect as TEAM to get it done on the court Noah Nichols, Seth Dennis, Brandon Simonette, Austin Barta, Clay Miller, Bryce Knost, Isaac Colgrove, Gabe Venham, Matt Goodman ALL saw action , ALL go together to make the Warriors a very formidable opponent no matter the division ... ALL of this adds up to THIS one last night was going to be close :

Qtr Breaks

Warren ... 16 .... 25 .... 41 .... 54
Logan ..... 16 .... 24 .... 41 .... 56

Fouls :
Warren 19 ... Logan 20
FTs :
Warren 25/27 ... Logan 16/24
TOs:
Warren 9 ... Logan 10
PnP:
Warren 8fgs/16 points in the paint
Logan 9fg/18 points in the paint
PnT :
Warren 0 points in transition
Logan 1 fg/2 points in transition

After the 3rd quarter tied 41-41 ... Warren scored only 2 fgs in the 4th while Logan scored ... wait for it - 3fgs in the 4th with the +1 being Bo Myers' game winner with 4.2 seconds to play ... can't get much closer than that ...

... great game ! 2 outstanding opponents ... rivals in a rivalry game playing toe to toe ... high school basketball at it's best gotta love it !!!

(posted this last night)

Warren didn't play it's starting lineup until after the 4 minute mark in the 1st quarter ! senior night tradition - Coach Maddox started/played all of his seniors ... hmmmmmmmm would the starters have added at least 2 or 4 more points ? we will never know ... great game right down to the end ... very physical, defensive battle on both sides ... Logan had to sub in at the guard position due to starters fouling out in the last minute and a half ... Warren almost had the take away from Logan on the perimeter - time out just in time by the Logan bench ... side out Logan :28.8 seconds to play 54-54 ... Logan did a nice job of hiding their weaknesses and getting the ball in the hands of the right players which was Bo Myers getting into the paint off the dribble ... Bo KNOWS basketball and Bo KNOWS how to score LOL ... into the paint off the dribble , floater from right to left for 2 and the lead 56-54 ... 4.2 on the clock ... Seth Dennis went the length of the court for the last shot around the rim for the tie ... bounced off ... Logan escaped the WarriorDome with the W ... 56-54 a final ...

... Pfloyd's Official "un-official" Napkin Stats - Warren ...

Scoring ...Clay Miller 16, Seth Dennis 14, Noah Nichols 14, Brandon Simonette 5, Austin Barta 2, Gabe Venham 2, Bryce Knost 1
3 Pointers ... 3/11 ... Noah Nichols 2, Brandon Simonette 1
FTs ... 25/27
TOs ... 9
PnP ... 8 fgs/16 points in the paint
PnT ... 0

... the Warriors go 1-1 vs the SE districts only 2 D1 Teams beating Chillicothe @ Chilli last night 50-48 ... took Logan to the final buzzer before losing 54-56 ... pretty strong showings for the BBB going into Sectional play at Logan where they will take on Vinton County Friday night ... Coach Maddox looked to have his Warriors play solid defense on Bo Myers knowing he was going to "get his" while the Warrior D worked hard to take away/limit the rest of the Logan offensive weapons - Cassady 3 points/Coby Bell 6 pts/ Wes Brooks 2/ Caleb Bell did the damage scoring in double figures - 13 pts with 3 triples ... 4 minutes of the first quarter with Only 2 starters in the game for Warren - some what if's ? ... Napkin Stats that stand out : ONLY 8 fgs in the paint 16 points ... outstanding 25/27 FTs ... without the BIG MAN - the Warriors live on attacking the paint - great night at the FT line ...

Pfloyd's Official "un-official" Napkin Stats - Logan ...

TOs ... 10
PnP ... 9 fgs/18 points in the paint

... Bo Myers scored 30+ points in his 4th straight game - not a bad week for the 6-5 senior as he totaled 102 pts in 3 games - a great week at the office for the Malone bound senior ... Logan has one more regular season contest left - Monday night at Logan vs Bishop Hartley followed by Saturday's 1st round Central District Sectional play vs Grove City ... Logan finishes off the SEO District play at 7-1 with their only loss on the road at Chillicothe ... beating Elite 8 Sheridan (#5) and #8's Athens and Warren within 5 days ... Logan goes to 16-3 on the season ...

... looking forward to Friday night at Jim's Gym when the Warren faithful bring their Warriors to take on Vinton County in the 8:30 nite cap game for the chance to go to the Convo and the District semi's ... add to that the opening game Friday night Athens vs Logan Elm at 6:15pm ... I believe there is a Freshmen Tournament going on at Jim's Gym that night as well ! being played in the auxiliary gym maybe ... busy place Friday night in Logan ! parking will be tough - not a shortage! just getting a spot close to the school LOL will be in the football/student parking areas or the bus parking lot ...

Great win for the Chieftains . No body goes into the Warrior Dome and comes out with a victory unless you have a very special team . Good luck to both teams in the Post season .
