Logan 58 Grove City 60 OT final

Logan 58
Grove city 60 OT final

... packed house at Jim's Gym ... the line to get tickets wrapped around the front of the school to the student parking lot ... I was walking by some folks and mentioned it was just like the days of "good" Logan football in the post season ... great to see the Logan Nation come out in full force to support the senior laden Chiefs ... the opponent for the Chiefs was Grove City out of the OCC ... a strange evening of hoops ... GC was a very quick, disciplined TEAM, not a lot of size, very strong with the ball, strong off the dribble and appeared to have some perimeter scorers as well ... Logan was the pursuer from the git go as GC showed a lot of motion in their offense, lots of picks, back cuts while being strong with ball ... GC was led by Sam Stoll with 7 pts in the quarter with Bubs Morrison adding a 3 pointer and a pair of deuces from Brock Waits and Alex Coffey ... should have guessed the night was not going be Logan's night as the first play of the contest for the Chiefs Bo Myers was called for player control foul taking the ball to the hole ... Bo added 6 points in the first, Logan got 3 treys in the opening period 1 each from Caleb Bell, Wes Brooks, Coby Bell ... Logan 17 GC 14 after 1 ... 2nd period - both teams showed solid D making their opponent work for everything ... Logan could muster but 2 fgs in the 2nd (5 pts by Coby Bell) the rest were from the FT line as Bo Myers went 7/7 ... as anemic as Logan's offense was GC was worse as they found the bottom of the net for only 8 points ... Logan extended their lead going into half time Logan 29 GC 22 at intermission ... as has been the case so many times the Chiefs played solid D, were methodical at the offensive end - Bo Myers did what Bo Myers does - scored the ball ... 9 points in the 3rd another 3 by Coby Bell/Caleb Bell ... Logan opened up a 12 point lead with :50.8 left on the clock in the 3rd 47-35 ... but THAT's where the feel good part of the game ends as GC scored to end the 3rd ... Logan 47 Grove City 37 after 3 ... Logan scored a total of 4 points in the 4th... the last 2 on a Bo Myers transition dunk .. GC from the :50.8 mark of the 3rd outscored Logan 16-4 thru the end of regulation ... the last bucket on a defensive breakdown as Cole Crager broke free for a open drive to the bucket 51-51 with 5.5 sec. to play ... that's how the quarter & regulation ended 51-51 ... Logan could not buy a basket in the 4th - did not score the last 3:44+ of regulation ... while not scoring, the Chiefs uncharacteristically were turned over 4 times at crucial times in the GC run for the tie ... Logan 51 Grove City 51 end of 4 ... OT again had Logan chasing as GC jumped out to 55-52 lead that they never relinquished ... 2:12 GC 55-52 ... 1:24 GC 55-52 ... :37 seconds GC 56-52 ... :23.2 GC 57-54 ... GC was living on the FT line as sophomore Brock Waits went 6/10 from the FT line in the OT ... GC had all but put the game away going up 58-54 before Bo Myers hit his only trey of the game with 8.8 to play GC 58-Logan 57 ... Brock Waits took the in bounds pass - was fouled , to the line for 2 , drained them both GC 60-57 ... Logan's Coby Bell was fouled on a 3 point attempt with .7 on the clock ! ... makes the first GC 60-58 ... the 2nd hits nothing but metal and bounces off ... a miss on the 3rd had the ball bounce off the rim back to Bell who had a shot to tie ... again bouncing off the back of the rim ... Grove City 60 Logan 58 a final ...

Pfloyd's Official "un-official" Napkin Stats - Logan ...

Scoring ... Bo Myers 32, Coby Bell 12, Caleb Bell 6, Wes Brooks 5, Layton Cassady 2, Tegan Myers 1
3 Pointers ... 7/20 ... Coby Bell 3, Caleb Bell 2, Wes Brooks 1, Bo Myers 1
FTs ... 15/20
TOs ... 14
PnP ... 10 fgs/20 points in the paint
PnT ... 1 fg/2 points in transition

... the season comes to an unexpected screeching halt for the Chiefs ... uncharacteristically turning the ball over in crunch time ... the scoring drought over 8+ minutes scoring only 4 points ... credit goes to GC on the solid, physical defense and controlling the boards for most of the game, the usual stiff Logan D was unable to stop the GC penetration in the 4th period as GC got into the paint, picked up the contact, went to the line and converted ... Great season ! I wish this fine group of Chieftains nothing but the best ...

Pfloyd's Official "un-official" Napkin Stats - Grove City

Scoring ... Brock Waits 17, Sam Stoll 13, Alex Coffey 11, Cole Crager 7, Bubs Morrison 5, James Ford 4, Luke Smith 3
3 Pointers ... 6/22 ... Sam Stoll 3, Luke Smith 1, Bubs Morrison 1, Cole Crager 1
FTs ..... 18/25
TOs .... 11
PnP ... 12 fgs/ 24 points in the paint
PnT .... 1 fg/2 points in transition

... GC came into a hostile environment, never backed down, took the ball right at the Logan D - got to the line where they did damage while the clock was stopped as they whittled away at the double digit Logan lead ... eventually catching the Chiefs at the :10 mark of the 4th 51-51 ... great defensive effort in shutting down LHS in the 4th period ( allowing only 4 points) ... best of luck on your tournament march back up the highway in C'bus ...

Difficult to watch it unfold ...BUT I could see it "going to happen" even with the 12 point lead - so many uncharacteristic, un-Logan like plays - poor decisions with the ball, TOs that I haven't seen happen all season - not fully focused ie. Logan has the ball, a pass up the sideline to another Logan player who was unaware the pass was coming ... little things that added up to the GC come back - they played a great game - very focused themselves, solid with the ball all game, strong on their drives with the ball into the paint ... seemed quicker as they got that "shoulder by the Logan defender" ... many open looks that just didn't find the bottom of the net - looks we as fans are used to seeing go down ... still a great season ! just not the end the Purple Nation was looking for, and especially not at home this early in the post season ...

Are any of the other players beside Bo Myers going to play at the next level?

Good job as usual Pfloyd. Probably one of the tougher ones that you have done. I know you have always said "win" or go "home", but I would bet a pretty penny, that not one person around SEO would have thought that this was going to happen tonight.

... and it STILL came down to the bounce of the ball on the 3 FTs at the end ... the shot off of the 3rd FT THAT was made to be "made" it came off the rim back to the shooter who put it back up from about 8 ft ... tough bowing out in the opening game for sure BUT it does not detract from what this graduating group of players have done for Logan Hoops - great players on the court, outstanding students in the classroom and quality kids to have walking through the halls of LHS ...

Tough, tough way to end the high school careers for these seniors. Great group of kids that have played together and been best friends forever!! Grove City was definitely the underdog coming into the game, but they never backed down and weren't scared. They came to play! Congrats to Grove City, they definitely earned a win.

It's so hard to judge teams in the OCC, and Central Ohio, because it's so hard to win games in and around 270.

Great careers for these senior Chieftains!! Thanks for such great basketball!!
