There is a video of Sandy Valley-Strasburg, on youtube, on the Garaway-Sandy Valley District Championship Game thread.

According to MaxPreps, Sandy Valley is now 17-6 overall. They finished fourth in their league (Inter-Valley Conference) with a 11-4 record. Berlin Hiland, Sugarcreek Garaway, Tuscarawas Valley, And Strasberg-Franklin are some of the teams in their league. Colors are Red and Black. Mascot is the Cardinals. Magnolia is about 20 minutes south of Canton

SANDY VALLEY

HEAD COACH: Gary Offenberger, 20th year (213-211).

LAST YEAR’S RECORD/FINISH: 19-6, 9-3 IVC North Division runner-up.

RETURNING LETTERMEN: Bryce Kelly, 6-6, Sr., post; Dante Tucci, 6-2, Sr., guard; Carl Cordia, 5-9, Sr., guard; Keegan Offenberger, 6-1, Jr., guard; Brodie Kelly, 6-3, Jr., guard.

TOP NEWCOMERS: Steve Maple, 6-2, Sr., post; Nick Marchand, 6-2, Sr., post; Cam Woods, 6-0, Sr., post; Logan Leichtamer, 5-10, Jr., guard; Elijah Eyster, 6-3, Jr., post; Anthony Tovissi, 6-0, Jr., guard; Demetrius Evans, 5-10, Soph., guard.

COACH’S COMMENTS: “We find ourselves behind the eight ball with major contributors out due to injuries incurred during football season,” said Offenberger. “It will take time to develop team chemistry once the injured eventually are cleared and can resume full action. We will have to lean on our leaders and returning lettermen during this transition. Come tournament time, we expect to be clicking on all cylinders

Going to be a tough matchup for Burg. Knocking off Meadowbrook and Garaway back to back let’s you know this is a good team. Looking forward to Thursday.

I know that Strasburg beat them by around 15pts in the video, and that Garaway had beaten them during the season.

If Wheelersburg continues to struggle with consistent shooting behind the arc, the games will get tougher to win. They rely a lot on the 3 point shot not only as a big part of the offense, but to open up driving lanes for Holden and Truitt. Should be a dandy of a game. Good luck to all playing and have an injury free game.

Big kid for Sandy Valley will cause problems for the Burg. Holden will be the best player on the floor but Sandy Valley has some
Athletic wings to throw at him.

To me, this all comes down to guard play. Which team handles pressure better?

Wouldn’t shock me to see this turn into a shootout.

At this point in the tournament IMO if Burg doesn't start shooting better like they did in the regular season then this great run might come to an end. Burgs defense has kept them going or scraping by as some may see it. Burg is bound to break out of the slump and they are gonna do it in the next game! Mullins is gonna get his groove back and when he does it's gonna ignite the offense! GO Burg!

Was told Sandy has as much talent as Garaway and Hiland. Guess they proved that against 2 outstanding teams in garaway and meadowbrook. If the Convo experiment doesn’t hurt them , they’re very dangerous ! They can play !

Need to shoot remarkably better than they have been to beat Sandy Valley. I look for Connor Mullins and JJ Truitt to have a big game, in addition to Holden, this Thursday and for Burg to keep dancing.

If this is a shootout, then burg will win by 10+ Sandy valley doesn't have a very high team scoring average, which indicates to me they run a lot of sets and play good defense.

They play in a big time league with plenty of talent and terrific coaches. 3 of their last 4 games they've scored 60 or more and put up 67 on a Garaway team that only gave up 60 or more TWICE the entire season. They can get out and run with Burg.

Sandy Valley is definitely clicking at the right time and seem to be firing on all cylinders.

Don't know anything about Sandy Valley, but know they beat some real teams to get to Regionals. Burg going to need more from Holden's supporting cast to keep advancing. Would like to see Truitt get some more looks on offensive end of court. McCorkle gave them good minutes off bench Saturday and Miller should be due to hit some of the shots that weren't falling against Alexander. Good luck to the Pirates Wednesday night.*

Bottom line is the shooters need to start hitting. In listening to the Alex game I would guess that on 80% of the 3’s taken, the announcers were constantly saying short!

They need to make sure they are shooting from behind the HS 3 point line and not the college line. I know, hard to do when you are spotting up to shoot. It doesn’t seem like a BG difference but it is when it comes to shooting.

If Wheelersburg isn't shooting well, it won't necessarily mean that they will lose......there's always other ways to win games......lock down defense, attack the glass for rebounds, force turnovers, make your FT's, beat Sandy Valley down the court when possible. The Pirates have won a number of games in which they haven't shot well.

Again, Thanks for posting there schedule. I notice only one ( Tusky Valley ) other school in there league division, is a Div-3 school. I'm sure there is probably a good reason for that also. Sandy Valley must be playing pretty well right now, as they have beaten a couple pretty good teams to earn there trip to the Convo.
