Jackson @ Waverly 1/20

Post by Ironman92 »

Big seeding game!

Can Jackson handle Waverly’s pressure?

Jackson lost their 24 ppg scorer to graduation but now have 4 different guys who can lead the team in scoring.

Drew Bragg has led 3x, Kuhn 2x, Spires 2x and Hammond 1x. Bragg has been deadly from 3 all season and has that limitless range. Spires has been huge....he’s been nearly can’t miss as well from beyond the arc and his x-factor shooting has really stretched out the defense. Kuhn has lived on the foul line and has been great at getting to the basket and drawing fouls. Hammond does it all. Bench guys bring great energy.

Jackson does need to quit letting everyone punch them out of the gate AND avoid those early fouls that sometimes cripple us. 3 of last 4 games we haven’t scored a bucket in first 4 min of the game.

We’ve been fortunate with excellent officiating in 6 of our 8 games....I sure hope one of the better crews is doing this one. Jackson/Waverly won’t be an easy game to officiate.

Should be a good one

This game will be a good test for both teams. Waverly needs to get back on track tonight with a win over south Webster. Their past two games they have taken losses. The lost vs West shouldn’t have happened and the Tigers just didn’t look great that night. But come the next night against Heath, they looked how everyone expects them too. Even tho they lost in double OT to Heath, they showed what they can do and how big of a problem they can be for any team in the area. Heath was very good and the Tigers had many chances to win the game.

I think this game has the makings of a good one. Waverly’s strength to this point has been defense. It seems like Jackson have many options as far as who can carry the load for the night, which will make them a tough match up. The Tigers need to get their bigs to finish at the rim, I believe that is the one thing holding this team back at this point. They have the D, and the guards have played pretty good this year and Robertson is that guy who can get you a bucket at any time and will take the majority of the responsibilities when it comes to scoring. But if Futhey and Brown can find ways to put points on the board this team will be a nightmare matchup for anyone. I do think if the bigs stay focused, they will find a rhythm. Just has been a little harder this year with almost missing a months worth of games/practice due to quarantine and shut downs.

These boys been going at each other since the 3/4 grades. Been a good one ever since. Can’t imagine this one being any different. Both teams will be emotionally into it. Hope the refs let em bang around a little.

Tigers will be down a starter in Wheeler who left Tuesday nights game in the 2nd quarter for a trip to the ER with a hand injury.
6th man Phoenix Wolf will get the nod in place of Wheeler but he too is nursing a nagging injury.
Tigers will need to get some minutes from Wade Futhey, Eli Crabtree and possibly Hudson Kelly.

Stinks for Wheeler...hope he’s ok

Jackson will be without senior Caleb Hutchinson with his broken finger and 6’3 Logan Miller out likely for another week. Hopefully we both can be fully healthy for the tournament.

Hate to hear that about Hutchinson and Miller as well. Hopefully tonight is injury free...
