First, credit to John Glenn for bringing its A game Saturday night. They hit shots and took advantage of an officiating job I have not recognized in a long time. Just discarded the rule book. Marietta overall finally played about as poorly as they can play. It’s worst effort of the season. Result—- 52-38 Muskies.

Not sure how games in other areas are officiated but it feels like about every JG game this year has been officiated like tonight’s. Very physical and lack of foul calls in general.

I've seen about 25 games this season in person or live-streamed. No other game even close to this, except possibly one that was called very physically but both ways. Not the case tonight. I don't think it's incompetence, the officials just decided what they're going to do and forget the rule book. Again, John Glenn played very well, better than I've seen them so far this year.

Busy Friday /Saturday night for hoops Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line ... last night traveled for the first time in YEARS to Sutton Gymnasium in Marietta , standing room only for the game between the home standing Tigers and the Fort Frye Cadets ... I'm not sure what I expected but thought FF might be a better foe than it turned out ... Marietta just imposed it's will on FF - the team with the better talent, the team with THE best player on the court - Marietta & Alex Kendall - played it's game, by "just playing it's game" Coach Gardner's Tigers won going away ... yes Fort Frye - made "the game closer" I wouldn't call it a run in the 2nd qtr - trailing 8-21 with 5:10 on the clock in the qtr. FF outscored Marietta 18-10 ... making the score going into the half MHS 31 FF 26 ... 6-8 Alex Kendall hit for 12 pts in the opening qtr ( a pair of 3's included)/16 for the half ... FF hit 3/4 treys in the first 2 qtrs ... 2/3 in the 2nd ... the 3rd quarter was all, no ALL Marietta as the Tigers defensively turned FF over 6 times / held FF to zero fgs / allowing only FTs on the scoreboard as the Cadets were 3/8 from the line ... 3 points ... the Tigers took care of the ball only 1 miscue ... 26 points /2 for 4 from 3 behind the arc / 12 for 16 from the line / Kendall added 9 more points , his 3rd triple of the game & 25 points through 3 qtrs finishing the contest with a game high 27 points ... Marietta 57 Fort Frye 29 after 3 ... game, set and match ... the Tigers played out the string outscoring FF 12-8 in the final period ... Marietta 69 Fort Frye 37 a final ...

Pfloyd's official "UN-official" Napkins Stats - Fort Frye

Scoring ...Braden Mortenstern 11, Zach Huffman 9, Tavin Brooks 4, Clayton Miller 4, Tyce Beardsley 3, Treven Nicholson 2, Chatum Courson 2, Coen Fouss 2
3 Pointers ... 3/13 ... Zach Huffman 2, Tavin Brooks 1
FTs .... 6/11
TOs ..... 19
PnP ..... 9 fgs/ 18 points in the paint
PnT .... 0
Pbk ..... 1 fg/ 2 points on putback buckets

Pfloyd's official "UN-official" Napkin Stats - Marietta

Scoring ... Alex Kendall 27, Owen Riley 13, Elyjah Lieres-Kelley 10, Seth Britton 6, Izak Knighten 6, Zaiden Wittekind 3, Braydon Jones 2, Trey Hawkins 1
3 Pointers ... 5/17 ... Alex Kendall 3, Owen Riley 1, Seth Britton 1
FTs ....... 16/22
TOs .... 12
PnP .... 19 fgs/ 38 points in the paint
PnT ... 4 fgs/ 8 points in transtion
Pbk ... 4 fgs/ 8 points on putback buckets

... SEO has some nice big men this season ! Bennett Kayser 6-5 (Minford), Trent Taylor 6-6 (Warren), Eli Roberts 6-7 (South Webster) , Alex Kendall 6-8 (Marietta) , Ashton Allman 6-6 (Vinton County) , Isaiah Haithcock 6-5 (Washington CH), Cade Mock 6-6 (Gallia Academy), Adam Guthrie 6-7 (Miami Trace), Bo Henry 6-6 (Piketon), Jordan Perkins 6-6 (Unioto) to name a few ... the 6-8 Kendall for Marietta can hold his own with any of them ... around the rim, on the blocks he's physically dominant , he prefers to work from the perimeter in to get his positioning down low, but its not for show - he can knockdown the 3 ball with regularity ... after watching the game last night at Marietta, I watched the Marietta vs Mass. Perry game - the 5 minute or so stretch coming out of halftime might be the most dominant 5 minutes a big man in SEO has had in awhile, you could make a highlight film straight off of the entire 5 minutes in that 3rd period ... he did everything - offensively attacked the rim, defensively in the press with steals and finishing at the rim driving the ball off the dribble, finished with authority with dunks ... he has the bulk to be dominant inside - tough to move him ... apparently John Glenn figured something out as they held him to 16 points in handing Marietta their first loss of the season Saturday evening ...As a TEAM in the game Friday night vs FF, Marietta just used their talent/size (Knighten ain't tiny at 6-5 alongside Kendall) to methodically beat down Fort Frye ... MHS is a solid team with one of those "HIM's" with size/talent that IS a next level player in the paint ...

Difficult week to rank teams!!! 6 of the top 8 teams posted "losses" with South Point dropping 2 games in the Week that Was ... out of the next 12 teams from last weeks rankings only 5 had unblemished records this past week of action ... THE ONLY team standing in the SE District no matter the division is D4 Fairfield Leesburg ... the Lions of Coach Quentin Williams went 22-0 last season in the regular season, this season standing at 12-0 ... looking at their schedule - they beat Federal Hocking over the break on a neutral court , just beat Western last night 45-42 at home ... looking at potential hurdles for "a second consecutive" undefeated regular season - Eastern Brown, North Adams, Hillsboro (although the 'boro lost big to Adena Saturday night) , Miami Trace ...

... More BIG games that will make ranking in the upcoming Week that IS difficult include - South Webster @ Minford, Marietta @ Warren , Fairland @ Chesapeake, Portsmouth @ Ironton, Gallia Academy @ South Point as the Pointers look to get back on the winning track after dropping 2 this past week - but on a positive note - Xathan Haney almost singlehandedly brought SP back at Fairland - knocking down 15 points in the 4th quarter/3 triples included - losing 59-61 ... look for the Lovely/Haney/Smith trio to be very dangerous in the OVC moving forward for SP ... Fairfield Union @ Logan Elm will be big in the MSL as FU tries to break it's 4 game losing streak albeit to solid teams in Teays Valley/Hamilton Twp,/Sheridan/Circleville ... great time of the year !!! everyone has settled in on starters/rotations/ players roles have been defined - time to hone skills, tighten the D ... the extra time AFTER practice - shooting ... gonna be the difference down the road as teams begin to look at wins/losses and seeding for the post season ... us cheap seat guys - we're eating it up as we get into the final weekend of the in-season classics, the Chad Hodson Classic this past week end at Fairfield Leesburg, this coming weekend the Dave Young Classic ... time for the committee to go behind closed doors and get to work in finalizing the rankings for the Week that Was - Week #5 in SEO ...
