James "Jamie" Bowles (Middleport)

Post by FANOSPORTS »

Graduated from Middleport high school in 1957 and led them to an undefeated season and the State baseball title that year as a pitcher and outfielder at the ripe old age of 15 years and 5 months old. He was drafted by the Reds after he graduated before he was 16 and was pitching in the minors at that age in 1958. He was injured after that and tried to make a comeback at age 22 in 1964 with the Phillies organization which was the last year he played. He came back home and was a heckuva Softball player for years before giving that up in the early 1970's.

I had the privilege of playing for him my freshman year at River Valley. Guys a riot, and a great great baseball mind.
