Early SVC Preview for the Weekend!

Zane Trace(0-1, 1-1) @ Vinton County
What a tough game for the Pioneers! They go from #4(t) Huntington to #3 Vinton County! It won't get any easier for ZT at all. VC has a 27 game regular season winning streak going and won't give it up easy at home. ZT is led by a couple of good seniors in Matt Martin and Corey Keister, along with a very solid sophomore in Kirk Maxwell.
Prediction: Vinton County, 71-59

Westfall(0-0, 0-0) @ Paint Valley(1-0, 1-1)
The Mustangs open up the regular season at the Jigger in Bainbridge on Friday. The Stangs are led by Juniors Bryant Gibson and Tyler Cobb, but also have some ridiculous athletes(Seth Hardin, Ben Cline) out this season. Paint Valley sent shockwaves through SVC Country with their OT win over Southeastern last Friday. That is one more SVC win then many people counted on this season for Coach Bates' Bearcats. Will the football legs effect the Stangs in this one?
Players to Watch For: Adam Keller(WF), Matt Workman(PV)
Prediction: Westfall, 54-43

Southeastern(0-1, 0-2) @ Huntington(1-0, 2-0)
Many were shocked when Coach Jordan's Panthers dropped their opener last Friday, but with a number of injuries and youth, it's going to be a long December for Southeastern. It will only get longer as they travel to the fabled Knockemstiff, Ohio. The Panthers will be looking for revenge, as the Huntsmen ended their run at the Gold Ball last season, but look for the Kellough boys to hammer the Panthers in a warmup for a killer 14th(Piketon) and 15th(Vinton County)
Players to Watch: Bobby Sams(HHS)
Prediction: Huntington, 75-38

Adena(0-0, 1-1) @ Unioto(0-1, 0-3)
Adena opens up league play in Frenchtown, after having last week off, and it won't be an easy start. The Shermans battled back from huge deficits in their 1st two games, only to fall short, aside from the beating they took in Greenfield on Saturday, things are looking up for the Shermans. Adena beat up on Whiteoak in their opener, but then gave away a late OT lead against a bad Miami Trace squad on Saturday.
Players to Watch for: Usually I won't highlite the stars, but each one of these guys could go off at any time: Curtis Baker(Unioto), Clay Roll(Adena)
Prediction: Unioto, 60-56

GAME OF THE WEEK
Zane Trace @ Piketon(1-0, 2-1)
Piketon is coming off an emotional win vs. Unioto, while ZT is coming off of 2 killer games in a row. The Oven is a tough, tough place to win a ballgame and Coach Lisath will have his boys ready for the play. If Piketon cuts down on the turnovers, they could run away with this one, IMO. ZT does have some very solid players and won't back down at all, they must box out and get back defensivly to win this ball game.
Players to Watch for: Matt Miller(ZT), Jordan Brabson(PHS)
Prediction: Piketon, 69-66

Southeastern vs. Eastern Brown(Southern State)
Adjusted for some new info, Southeastern is down a few players, so Eastern wins
Prediction: Eastern Brown, 67-53

(Girls) Unioto(3-0, 5-0) @ Huntington(3-0, 5-0)
If each team wins on Thursday night, that will set up a matchup of two 6-0 ballclubs. 2 time SVC POY Lydia Bridenbaugh is averaging around 27 PPG this season for the Huntsmen, while Frosh. sensation Mackenzie Arledge is the leading marker for the Shermans. Jr. Transfer Shianne Ray is a big key for the Lady Shermans this season and can take over a game at seemingly any moment. Jess Fraley(Huntington) has turned her game up in her final season, averaging around a double-double per game. There will be some fun matchups in this game, Arledge vs. Fraley inside and Bridenabaugh vs. up to 4 different girls guarding her throughout the game(Ray, Taylor Corcoran, Janae Driggs, and Janelle Hougland) The early SVC lead is on the line in this game.
Prediction: Youth wins out, Unioto, 58-56

The Hammy Dome was packed tonight for a classic between the visiting Logan Elm Braves and the Hamilton Township Rangers.

The Braves lost Bryant Blake to an ankle injury in the second quarter. That's two of LE's top six players out with injury. Never fear, the Braves didn't quit.

Hammy led 31-27 at half, but LE rallies in the third and eventually takes a 53-43 lead in the fourth. Hammy, 3-1, fights back to take a lead late in the fourth but the Braves tie the game and send it to overtime.

Logan Elm was down in each of the first three overtimes, only to force more FREE basketball for a packed dome. In the third period of free ball, Timmy Congrove hits a trey with 36 ticks left, sending the game to a fourth overtime.

The two schools remained scoreless for nearly the first three minutes of the fourth OT period. Logan Elm rotates the ball beautifully around and finds Congrove wide open for a three-ball. DRAINO. Congrove hits three more free throws in the closing minute, giving LOGAN ELM an 85-81 win.

Some napkin stats

FOR THE BRAVES

Congrove 38 points, seven three balls, and 10 boards.
Steve Largent 17 points and 10 boards.
Zach Holbrook 11 points and 11 boards.
Mark Coleman eight points.

Logan Elm moves to 1-1 on the season. Next up, a very talented TEAYS VALLEY basketball team at home Saturday night.

Manchester (who is improved with most players returning) beat Peebles on a buzzer beater.....64-63 I think.

Frosh Blake Justice went for 35...has 100 points thru 3 games.

Face the always tough North Adams next.

Whiteoak 41
Fayetteville 35

Whiteoak, on the road, moves to 3-1 and has allowed just 41 ppg in it's first 4 games....and just 38 ppg in it's 3 consecutive wins.

One of the smallest starting 5's around is plaiying some sound defense.

LC getting beat by Eastern Brown is not surprising AT Eastern. It's tough to win on the road.

Who are Eastern Brown's players? Is the Hawkins playing any varsity ball?

The SHL is a league where it's #2-#10 teams could all beat each other....and 4 or 5 of the teams could likely beat the best.
