Chillicothe 79-51 over Portsmouth

Humpty Hitchens had 17 points for Chillicothe and also added five assists. Stuart Beverly followed with 15 points, Sugar Ray Chambers had 12 points and eight rebounds, and Seth Dawes chipped in 11 points.

Andrew Bendolph had 14 points for Portsmouth. Nate Cadogan collected a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Chillicothe is the best team I've seen this year. Humpty is impressive, Sugar Ray is good in the post and then you throw in some of the other kids. Impressive team. I thought they were a bit sloppy trying to push the ball at times but they had a big lead.

I've watched both teams play and I'd give the edge to Chillicothe. I think it would be a good game, but I believe Chillicothe has some people who can play against Mullens - Chambers and Dawes - and hold him to a reasonable number. I also think Chillicothe is the deeper team at the moment. Canal has some other players who I feel can step up and be more of a force to balance things out better. But as I said, I'd give Chillicothe an edge right now.

A couple of games I'm looking forward to are Chillicothe against Newark, who beat CW by double digits, Dayton Dunbar and Zanesville. The NCH win was impressive but this should give us an even better idea heading into the tournament.

only thing that worries me about chilli vs newark is chilli being tired. the way they get after it on defense , playing AT marietta the night before. getting home around 1-2am and having to play again at 3pm....hopefully they will jump out to another huge lead and sit their starter very early. i HATE that trip to marietta

bronc21 ...

I'm pretty sure Nerk plays the night before, too. So do we.

The good news for you, though, is that Nerk tends to play more of a half-court game. And I don't know as Nerk is as physically strong as Chillicothe.

bronc21-Chilli wouldnt face Canal until the state semi's as no teams from columbus are coming to the athens regional this year. the brackets have be re-aligned

but just for fun i would also give the edge to Chilli. we can match up (although still falling short of matching evenly) with Mullens better than most teams and we are probably stronger at their 2nd best position at PG. but we far outclass them in our other 3 starting positions and depth off the bench. I had been preaching that Canal would lose to a quality team such as Nerk b/c of their lack of a 3rd, 4th scorer. that proved true against Nerk as we saw.

and thats just how it is...Dshanton3

I was at the Canal game tonight and they didn't miss a shot in the third quarter. 13-13 from the field and 7-7 from three. 80-56 final over Licking Valley. Canal called off the dogs in the middle of the fourth.

Nelson 29, Mullens 19 and on down the line.

Fairfield Union defeats Sheridan 58-45

Zack Smith led the way with 22 points, and Chris Throckmorton gathered in 14 of his own. Josh Frank also scored 10 for Fairfield Union.

Fairfield is now 7-4 and travels to Hamilton Township Saturday.

... thanks b618 ... that Hamilton Twp. game will be a tough one for FU - very solid team at HT - very athletic Green/Curry/Woods can light you up offensively and make your life miserable defensively as well ... good mid season test for Coach Barr & Co.

pfloyd, that's a 230pm afternoon matinee also so I might venture up to Hammy High and take in some hoops. Should be a good ballgame between the Rangers and Falcons. Hammy is an athletic ballclub.

Hammy High plays Saturday home games at 230pm because of bingo in the evening for both boys and girls.
