… 2 MORE great games played at the Convo this afternoon both D3 match ups :
Fairland 50
Wheelersburg 52 final
Portsmouth 55
Lucasville Valley 58 final
… Fairland 50 vs Wheelersburg 52 … Fairland battled shorthanded the whole contest as the undersized Dragons almost pulled out the "W" vs the Burg … neither team were raining threes as between the 2 teams only 17 treys were attempted and only 3 hit their mark …the only quarter break lead that Coach Speeds squad enjoyed the lead at the end of was the first as FHS led 8-4 all other breaks belonged to the Pirates of Coach Ater including the one that counts at the end of the 4th

… great effort by a team that had on the floor 5-10, 5-7, 5-8, 5-10, 5-10 the best part of a quarter plus battling AND my guess out rebounded the Pirates of Wheelersburg … Nathan Campbell makes my all district team just on effort alone … the kid is not in the offensive schemes , he takes a beating in the paint for 4 quarters - giving it all up for TEAM , pounds the boards at 5-8 better than most much bigger players down low , Nathan is a tenacious defender - quick feet , even quicker hands … Nathan has a place on my team any day for the week - outstanding … Flyn, Maddux, Campbell, Warner, Phillips … those of us in the cheap seats noticed the effort, give me 5 players who are undersized but have the heart of champions as these young men show every game and you end up as the Dragons did today knocking at the door of a District Championship … we cheap seat guys thank you all …
Valley 58 Portsmouth 55 … WOW … all of the talk on the boards has been directed at the D2 championship matchup BUT the "locals" had their eyes set on this one in D2 Lucasville Valley vs Portsmouth … the matchup , the game , the TEAMS didn't disappoint … great game , 2 great teams standing toe to toe taking their opponents shots for 4 quarters … look at the quarter breaks : tied 13-13 after one … Valley 35 Portsmouth 32 at intermission … VHS 47 PHS 46 end of three … game tied at 55-55 after a Kyre Allison drive and dish to freshman Kendall Reynolds for the tie ... with 18.9 seconds remaining Valley ball … clock runs down as Valley went into the perimeter weave … last man to touch the ball was Chris Flowers left of the key (Reynolds had 4 threes on the game as the clock drew down) … Flowers with no hesitation lifted up just as he had on his previous 4 threes … same result nothing but net … last team with the ball wins …

… the 3/4 from the FT line was a big surprise to me after the game … as much quickness, speed to get into the paint that PHS has on the floor AND to NOT have gone to the line more is amazing to me … Valley did a great job disrupting shots in the paint and/or not putting the Trojans on the line … Great season for the youngsters from PHS , they will be back and going deeper into the tourney next season … are we talking dual league championships next year for PHS (OVC & SEOAL) / Sectional, District, Regional And beyond ???? it would not be surprising in the D3 world …

… great game by the Indians … never backdown from the the PHS quickness, never flinched when the Trojans were hitting a run of treys … that's what good teams do take the blows and dish out blows of their own … PHS had 8 three pointers - the Indians covered the 8 treys including getting the last one on the LAST shot for the game by Flowers … I was impressed with the TO total on the game only 6 with one of those being a player control foul … only 5 TOs vs the quickness of PHS - PERFECT … Congratulations to the Indians , best of luck this week in regional action Pfloyd will be in the cheap seats for the run …
