Southeastern 65
Wellston 47

Which guarantees at least 3 SVC schools at the Convo, as Piketon/Westfall play tomorrow.

North Adams 65
Huntington 30

Sad to see how the wheels fell off in the Township.

Eastern Brown 67
Paint Valley 40

PV finishes at 8-15, which is about 5 or 6 more wins than most would have guessed in the preseason. Good first season back for Coach Shoemaker and he has his top 3 players back next year.

Athens 53
Gallia Academy 35

... the Athens Bulldogs took the lid off of the Logan Sectional's full night of action by beating Gallia Academy 53-35 ... the first 2 quarters of play saw AHS jump out quickly both offensively and defensively on the Blue Devils ... Athens held GAHS to 1 fg in the opening frame while breaking out its entire arsenal as all the starters for Coach Skinner dented the scorebook led by Ibi Watson's 8 first quarter points (2 threes) ... defensively the Bulldogs forced 5 Gallia turnovers in the first ... Athens 19 Gallia Academy 7 at the end of one ... In quarter #1 Athens shot over 50% while holding Gallia to under 15% shooting from the floor ... the 2nd quarter had Gallia Academy reminding the Bulldogs that turnabout is fair play as it was GAHS that did the damage from the field hitting for over 55% while holding Athens to 1 fg and under 15% shooting ... Gallia had 4 of 5 starters adding to the GAHS point total led by Cody Call's 2 treys (6 pts) and a trey by Wade Jarrell ...Gallia took the quarter scoring 17-6 and forced Athens to turn the ball over 9 times in the period ... Athens 25 Gallia 24 at the half ... Gallia had the game where they wanted it - low scoring , IF Gallia controls the tempo into the second half, makes the game a mid 40's to low 50's contest Coach Moore's team has a chance at the upset ... not to be as Athens was the team controlling the tempo as Coach Skinner's troops picked up the pace of the game to start the 3rd ... Athens started the quarter with a 10-0 run led by the return of Zacchia Saltzman who fueled the AHS spurt by doing what the Athens offense has missed in his absence - he took the ball to the rim got fouled, knocked down 2 FTs, followed it the next trip down with a three pointer from deep forcing Gallia to play from behind as AHS stretched the lead to 11 points 35-24 ... neither team lit it up the 3rd but the Bulldog 10-0 run coupled by defensively shutting down the GAHS offense was enough to give Athens a comfortable lead going into 4th frame ... Athens 40 Gallia 27 after three ... you'd like say the offenses opened it up in the 4th to make the outcome close but this one was controlled and won by the Athens offensive rebounding in both the 3rd/4th quarters Adam/Ryan Leuhrman both owned the boards at either end of the floor but particularly on the offensive end as the Athens brother duo accounted for 12 offensive boards/4 putback buckets ... game Bulldogs, the 'dogs move on to the Convo Athens 53 Gallia Academy 35 a final

... Pfloyd's Napkin Stats - Gallia ...

Scoring : Cody Call/Justin Bailey 10 each, Reid Eastman 6, Wade Ferrell 5,Wes Jerrell 3, Jimmy Clagg 1

3 Pointers : 3/13 ... Call 2,W. Jarrell 1

FT's : 8/10 from the line

TO's : 14

... Pfloyd's Napkin Stats - Athens ...

Scoring : Ibi Watson 12 (all in the first half), Joey Burrow 10, Ryan Leuhrman 9, Zacchia Saltzman 7, Adam Leuhrman 6, Jared Elmore 5, Sawyer Summers 4

3 Pointers : 4/16 ... Watson 2, Saltzman/Burrow 1 each

FT's : 13/18

TOs : 16 for the game

... the return of Zacchia Saltzman brought back to the Athens TEAMS game much needed support - offensively ZS handles the ball, gets into the paint. can take the baseline with the end results being ZS gets to the rim ... ZS is another outside threat that has be dealt with by the defense- he hits the 3 ball ... ZS adds on the ball pressure vs the oppositions pg - creating TO opportunities for the AHS defense ... ZS back made the substitution pattern for Coach Skinner so much smoother ... glad to see the youngster back on the floor for the post season for Athens ... next stop the Convo ...

FLOYD ... DID SOME RESEARCH ON CHILLICOTHE ... THEY WERE (7-15) AT THE END OF THE SEASON ... I BELIEVE YOUR RECORD WAS WRONG IN THE RANKINGS.

;)

GOOD RUN-DOWN ON THE ATHENS GAME TOO!

Pfloyd, since you caught some flak for the final rankings ( I can see both sides of that arguement) why not do a " Regular season final edition" and a post season final edition?........afterall look what happened to NY Buckeyes tonight. Wouldnt that, at least theoretically, move Crooksville up? Plus, lets say they just keep on winning.

Just a thought......I could be wrong
I thought I was wrong once before, but I was only mistaken

Vinton County 52
Fairfield Union 44 final

... Vinton County took on Fairfield Union in the Black & Blue division in the second game coming out of the Logan Sectional ... VC hit the floor in the pockets of the FU players ... one of the BEST defensive halves of hoops I have watched from the Cheap Seats - communication was key, switching off defenders to keep a body in front, in the face of PG Jordan Barr - it worked imo - got the ball out of Barr's hands, put a long body in his face when he wanted to get the outside shot ... Coach Mitchem from Warren noted that even though FU was behind on the scoreboard the Falcons had actually out rebounded the Vikings on the boards ... but numbers never lie as VC rode its defense to a Vinton 22 Fairfield 10 lead at intermission ... the third quarter saw Jordan Barr have the ball in his hands more, enabling him to begin to impact the Falcons on the offensive end of the floor - Barr looked for his shot from downtown (one three ball), penetrated with the ball rather than give it up enabling Barr to get to the rim or dish , set up fellow players by getting the ball where they could score (only a jr) ... end of 3 Vinton County 32 FU 26 ... FU had the added benefit of being in the double bonus for all 8 minutes of the 4th quarter going 7/12 in the 4th from the line ... Vinton County trumped the FU shooting by hitting 12/18 FTs in the period ... what had become a close 4-6 point game was to near double digits as 2 technical fouls were called on FU ... Vinton County's FRESHMAN Jordan Albright was 8 for 8 from the line (4 FTs made were the technicals called on the FU bench.followed by a 2nd T on an upset player ,,, Vinton County 52 Fairfield Union 44 a final ...

...Pfloyd Napkin Stats - FU ...

Scoring : Jordan Barr 16, Sam Green 9, Josh Stewart 8, Matt Ruff 3, David Wolshire 2

3 Pointers : 4/16 ... Stewart 2, Barr 1, Green 1

FTs : 12/19

TOs : 12

... Pfloyd Napkin Stats - Vinton County ...

Scoring : Jordan Kidd 13 , Jordan Albright 10, LB Remy 9, Bryce Owings 9, Alex Owings 2/Chase Woods 2 , Walton 1

3 Pointers : 4/12 ... Kidd 3, Smallwood 1

FTs : 18-27 on the night ... 12/18 in the 4th quarter ... Jordan Albright 8/8 from the line

TOs : 12

... two good games at the Purple Palace last night as Athens and Vinton County both received their American Idol "gold papers" sending them to the Convo for the district play ... Congratulations to both coaches - Coach Skinner (Athens)/Coach Combs (Vinton County) along with their respective TEAMS ... Day #2 as Warren takes on the "win in" contestant New Lexington at 3pm followed by Logan Elm vs the Sheridan Generals of Coach Booth at 7pm ... not sure why the long time gap between 2 games ... last night was long enough as we sat for over an hour and a half between games ... I guess "clear the gym" tonight means "CLEAR THE GYM!" ...

... one of the great things about post season games is the chance to see so many fans, coaches, friends from all over the SEO district - last night I sat with Coaches Mitchem/Coach Duckworth of Warren, chatted briefly with Coach Holbert/Coach Stiverson of Logan Elm- thanks for touching bases with pfloyd as if it were ever any doubt Coaches Stiverson & Holbert for LE are class acts court side & off the court; Coach Skinner of Athens - great coaches and even better people ... SEOprep stars were in the house as well Dundas made his way up to the Cheap Seats for some hoops chat- not sure where Nascar came from LOL , while 93dog made his way down to the cheap seats after his radio broadcast, and signing of autographs  ... ALL of this IS why THIS is the best time of the year in hs sports - I'm thankful to be part of the tournament atmosphere again for this season ...

The 4 hour gap is ridiculous! Lol, not sure why they are starting a full 2 hours before any other site today, but it will give me a chance to see possibly 3 games. Maybe it's Logan's way of promoting local businesses since you'll have to find something to do for the 2 hours between games!

Don't underestimate Floyds little 'Ponzi schemes', Dani ... this idea of waiting two hours - and promoting Logan businesses - has 'Pizza Crossing Connection' written all over it ...

(BTW) - Belpre vs Zane Trace tips-off at 3:00 as well - so Logan is not the only site that does it.

I saw that tip time about 2 minutes after posting it lol, but I still don't get it regardlessly. But, the winners of the two early games could both go out and get a good scout on one of their Convo opponents for an 8:30 game tonight.

And I'm still confused on how it's setup this year, I know Warren's Coach Maddox was at SE last night and I know Unioto will have a few at Logan to watch Warren. I thought they were supposed to have those games on the same night to avoid something like that from happening.

That is odd Dani ... I know Coach Skinner had to hurry up - and bolt for Southeastern - after his game last night to catch the Chilli/Court House match-up.

Warren 70
New Lexington 47

...Warren takes the afternoon matinee beating New Lexington 70-47 ... this one was over in the first quarter as the Warriors broke out all of the big guns 5/7 from three point land for Warren as Evan French hit for 11 first quarter points (3 treys), Reece Patton 9 points (1 three), Michael Hall kicked in a trey for good measure Warren 26 New Lexington 11 after one ... Quarter #2 highlighted "a weakness" in the Warren armor as New Lex continually out rebounded the Warriors on the boards - not enough shots fell for NLHS to make a dent in the WHS lead as Warren extended the lead going into half time Warren 38 New Lex 20 ... New Lex played zone most of the contest - too much Warren ball movement, outside shooting, Warren was able to get into the foul line area with Hall & Patton the whole game for open looks while French was deadly from downtown ... Warren added 3 more triples in the 3rd qtr. (French 2/Pannell 1) taking the 3rd qtr scoring 20 - 12 ... Warren 58 New Lex 32 after three ... Coach Maddox emptied his bench with a little over 3 minutes to go leading 68-41 ... subs ran out the clock as Warren will be going to the Convo ... Warren 70 New Lexington 47 a final ...

... Pfloyd Napkin Stats - New Lex ...

Scoring : Ethan Kunkler 19, Collin Russell 10, Nick Saxton 9, Tommy Russell 5, Alex Bryant 4

3 Pointers : 1/15 ... C. Russell 1

FTs : 12/25

TOs : 9

... New Lex was a very scrappy ball club, hustled on the boards ... Senior Ethan Kunkler had an excellent game offensively and on the boards vs the Warriors ... 1/15 shooting from behind the arc put the Panther behind the 8 ball as Warren went 10/19 in the 3 department ... both teams played relatively error free ball with NLSH carding 9 TOs and Warren 10 with 3 of those coming with the subs in the last 3+ minutes ... good clean game ... on paper Warren had too many weapons for New Lex to handle, IF Warren plays solid D, and lets the big three - French/Patton/Hall take care of the offense Warren would move on ... before game paper work matched the game on the court ... Warren goes to Basketball Thirty in the Convo next week taking on the Shermans of Unioto ...

... Pfloyd Napkin Stats - Warren ...

Scoring : Evan French 22, Reece Patton 15, Michael Hall 13, Dylan Leffingwell 10, Danny Pannell 3, Evan Yabs/Matt Drayer 2 each, Adam Lang 1

3 Pointers: 10/19 ... French 6, Hall 2, Patton 1, Pannell 1 ... Warriors hit the Panthers with 7 first half threes

FTs : 10/14

TOs : 10

... congratulations to Coach Maddox and his staff ... best of luck to the Warriors as they move on to the Athens Convocation Center ...

Logan Elm 56
Sheridan 44

... the final game of the Logan Sectional was the perfect Logan Elm script of a game ... Coach Stiverson probably had the whole game plotted out on his index card ... control the tempo, force Sheridan to work the ball on every possession , contest everything, keep within reach after the first 2 quarters - better yet just make it tied at the end of 2 and we'll call it even ... if the point total is under 20 for either or both teams so much the better hmmmmmmmmmm (flash forward to intermission of the REAL game) both LE/Sheridan had 6 fg's each in the half/ both teams shot 30-31% in the first half, both teams had 2 three pointers at the half ... Logan Elm 16 Sheridan 16 at the half ... (going back to Coach Stiverson's game script) coming out after half time LE looks to "get a lead"/with the LE defense any lead is next to impossible to overcome ... how do we get "the lead"? turn up the pressure ... force Sheridan to turn the ball over - transition baskets/if nothing else by turning up the pressure the Braves get more fluid in the half court offense/the outside shots will start falling ...once the lead is in hand - play defense/work the ball on offense/run the clock ... bottom line - LE gets to 50 LE wins ... sometimes the best laid plans DO come together the way they are drawn up ... hats off to Coach Stiverson and staff as the Braves followed the script - turned up the pressure in the 3rd quarter, got the lead early on in the 3rd bolstered by 4 threes in the period - the key was the perimeter scoring came from 4 different players - Dillon Young,Logan Thompson, Trent Congrove, Waylon Artrip each hitting a trey in the third ... goal accomplished "got the lead" ... Logan Elm 35 Sheridan 29 after three ... the fourth quarter saw LE's lead "balloon" to 10 points for most of the quarter - 2 more threes (Young/Artrip each with one) and the usual parade of FTs - LE was 12/16 from the line in the 4th ... the Braves took the 4th 21-15 and the game Logan Elm 56 Sheridan 44 a final ...

... Pfloyd Napkin Stats - Sheridan ...

Scoring: Matt Freville 10, Luke Fox 9, Justin Snider 8, Tyler Fisher/Tyler King 5 each, Brian Russell/Ethan Snider 3 apiece

3 Pointers : 4/10 J. Snider 2, Fisher 1, Fox 1

FTs : 8/11

TOs : 16

... Pfloyd Napkin Stats - Logan Elm ...

Scoring : Dillon Young 21, Waylon Artrip 11, Logan Thompson 8, Seth Anderson 6, Casey Tyler 6, Trent Congrove 5

3 Pointers : 8/14 Artrip 3, Thompson 2, Young 2, Congrove 1 ... game key - scoring from multiple players for LE

FTs : 15/23

TOs : 11

... Congratulations to Coach Stiverson/Coach Holbert and their Logan Elm Braves heading back to the Convo ,after missing last season, to take on Miami Trace in District action ...
