Top 10 All-Time SE District Players

Post by Ironman92 »

Let’s do this. Let me start with this...if you don’t know or understand that Katie Smith is #1...without argument, then you need not participate in this thread. I’ll bring up several girls and forget many more...just add them in as you think they are deserving of ranking or at least mention.

1. Katie Smith.

2. Marlene Stollings....weakest competition but she is likely #2 on this list. Scored over 3500 points and played at OSU and transferred to OU and went for 20 ppg. 5’11 sharpshooter. She came to Jackson with her Eastern team and they beat us 60-59....she scored 57 and set our all-time gymnasium record.

3. Jamie Lewis....at 5’3 she is inch for inch in the vicinity of Smith. A quadruple double machine at Oak Hill. She had a game of a triple double where she surpassed 20 pts...assists and steals. Her numbers were mind boggling and her play...wow. At 5’3 played at OSU and went on to be all-time leader in steals and I think also assists. I believe was the last player cut for the WNBA Washington Mystics

Others (I’m going to forget/leave out many...don’t be offended)

Adena player of late 70’s...played in olympics

Kayla Cook

Jenna Burdette

Jen Grandy

Beth Howe

Krystal Tharp

Alyssa Hammond

Dominic Doseck

Athens girl from mid 90’s

Many many others....name them, tell about them.

Stori Houston- Fairfield Union

Her height killed her in her chance to play major d1 college ball, but was a starting pg on an fu final 4 team and also on a way national title team along with Allison Bales.

Outside of FU, best players I ever saw live were Jamie Lewis and Beth Howe.

I remember her and she squared off vs Howe in district finals so where around 2000

Howe ended up with 2100+ points...I think was runner up Ms. Ohio Basketball and sat bench for Big 10 Champion and Sweet 16 OSU

I remember that game well, Howe was so smooth. The game seemed easy to her. 2000 was probably right. They went to the final 4 in 99, and lost their Big who went on to play at Campbell. The 2000 year I think we were ranked like 2nd or 3rd and lost a game to I wanna say Greenfield Mclain at FU, it was an awesome game but GF got us. If I'm remembering right, Jackson vs fu was at Chilli?? Jackson earned that win.

Aubrey Eblin, Unioto

Carried Unioto to the Final Four in 1995 and 2 years later scored 14 points against Tennessee in the National Championship game for Old Dominion.

Cyndy Noble is the Adena grad who played at Tennessee and in the Olympics

I thought about her but didn’t list. Definitely a worthy mention.

1. Katie
2. Burdette

My top two for sure.

You could make a case for Marlene at No. 2. But Jenna leading her team to the state title pushes her ahead, imo.

Athens girl from the mid 90's, I92?

Erin O'leary graduated in 93. Darn good player.

You had Kathy Brunning - but she was 80's

Liz Howerth - but she was 2000's

Yeah but the rotation of players with Stollings ...none would have cracked the rotation that played with Burdette

I drove all the way to Waterford, on a cold snowy Thursday night, just to watch a senior laden team with King and Drayer vs the young lady Eagles led by Burdette and Parker. Great atmosphere, great game!

You could make a case Waterford girls vs Eastern girls - over about a 10-year stretch- is/was the best rivalry in all of southeast Ohio. Every time they played it was either for a league championship, district championship and even met in regionals numerous times. Not only that, the winner in the tourney has gone on to the state tournament and even winning it all.

Cooper that played with Katie Smith was one of the best defensive players I have every watched in girls high school ball. Still had over 1,000 points. Along with Katie....Cooper, Kraft and Hamshire all finished with over 1,000 points from a state runner up team.

Coop would be in my top 10 no doubt! Maybe even top 5.
