The 8th Grade Championship match at the Unioto Tournament last year was definitely a nail biter! Waverly scored late to go up 3-2...Jackson then had several shots on goal in the final minutes including a shot off the crossbar with about 10 seconds on the clock!

2000 SE District Semi-final at Athens High School
Portsmouth Clay Panthers vs. South Webster Jeeps
South Webster defeated Clay 2-1 in PK's
Field condition was poor to say the least, due to the rain.
This game featured many great plays and moments. South Webster opened up the scoring 1:00 minute into the game on their first shot of the match, the ball bounced off of the all SE District Clay keepers hands, off of his shoulder and hit the bar and barely bounced inside the goal from all SE District POY from Webster. Clay would score later from its all SE District forward who placed a lofting shot over the keepers hands to tie the game at 1-1. Clay shut out SW's high powered offense for the next 90 minutes. During that time both teams would make great plays. Clays keeper came out and SW had a wide open goal, the SW forward takes a shot but out of nowhere the Clay defender dove at the goal-line, clearing the ball out landing in the goal wrapped up in the net!
Later another defender for Clay went to clear the ball out on the side where normally the football teams benches were and when he planted his foot, his foot stuck in the mud and the mud actually pulled his shoe off!
Clay actually had a chance to win in PK's. The ref handed the ball to our future all time leading scorer and said oh, if you score you win the match. Thanks ref, no pressure at all!!
Ha yes those were the days!!

The same year in the Section Final @ Valley, South Webster defeated Valley in the 7th round of the PK Shootout. I'm not positive what the final score ended up being but it was a close game. That season Valley and South Webster shared the SOC Championship and split the 2 games during the regular season. Truly was the most breath-taking game I've ever been apart of

pc- That was Waverly vs. Unioto and it finished 4-3. I know that all too well, :-( LOL, but it was a great game.

2000- Sectional Final, Zane Trace vs. Unioto. Unioto wins 2-0.
Both teams had various chances, but both goalies played fantastic. A foul in the box late in the 1st half led to a PK for ZT, but Unioto's 1st All-Ohio player, Dustin Robbins would make the save on the shot. It would be 0-0 at the half, then in the 2nd half, ZT fouled near midfield and the free kick would be pounded into the box, where Justin Lodge settled and scored with 15 minutes left to make it 1-0. Alex Crider would add one with 2 minutes left to make it a 2-0 final.

Many moons ago 1994 south webster at minford, webster scored three goals in the first half off of crosses from brady rose to seth kuhner....in about 6 minutes.....at half time minford made defensive adjustments.....then with about 15 minutes left in the game minford scored off a corner, then two minutes later off another header from a corner.....then about five minutes later, the minford keeper made a save and came up and threw a lazer to about mid-field to jason ruby and he spun and launched a prayer from about 40 yards that sailed over the webster keeper, this tied the score and with less than a minute left shawn sommer took a shot from minford that hit the cross bar....although it ended in atie one of the best games ever

Minford v. Waverly in 2003 or 2004...Waverly wins 9-7 very exciting game.

Also, Minford v. Valley in the 2005 sectional semi finals. Valley went up one, then Minford scored with like 10 seconds left to send the game into overtime. Minford finally got the win in the second overtime period.

2003 Philo vs (i don't remember)

District Championship & it goes to PK's. Philo won & went to their very first regional tournament. Philos regular season record was something like 5-11.

In 2003 Philo didn't make it the District Finals. http://www.ohsaa.org/sports/so/boys/2003/bd2reg7_03.PDF.

It was 2002. http://www.ohsaa.org/sports/so/boys/2002/bd2reg7_02.PDF. And it was against St. Clairsville. Their final record was 8-11-1.

Maintanceman--There was only one overtime--it just had two halves. It was a common mistake.

There was a Minford-New Boston sectional game in 1995 where Minford led 6-1 at halftime. In the second half, New Boston outscored Minford 6-1 for a 7-7 tie at the end of regulation. During the first half of overtime, both teams scored once so at the start of the second half of overtime the score was 8-8. Minford scored once in the second half of overtime to take the 9-8 game.

It seems like tournament games are the most exciting (especially when you win). Coming down to PK's is pretty cool too in some ways. I think by that point both teams have done their job and both are winners.

Fortunately, the last two times Webster has been to shootouts they have won. 2001 (I think) Webster advanced to the district tourney with the win over Wheelersburg (Keegan should remember that because he netted the final goal for SW.

The other time was 2005 with a win over Albany Alexander (at Albany). Webster went on to lose to Highland in the District final. (tough draw that year - Albany then Highland).

I guess PK's are cool when you win, but I'm sure it stinks to lose that way.

Probably the best game I've ever seen in HS was a game that featured no SE school, it was the 2003 State Semi Final between Worthington Christian and Cincinnati Madeira. Madeira scored with about 2 minutes left in regulation for a 3-2 win.

Both teams were outstanding all night long, WC featured Kenny Anaba(who was drafted in this past year's MLS Supplemental Draft) and Madeira had state POY, Jimmy Cummings. Madeira went on to win their 2nd straight State Championship and continued their unbeaten streak to something like 45 games. It was also the 2nd straight year that Madeira scored late in the Semi Final to beat WC(they won 5-4 in 2002)

Another great game was the 2004 Regional Final between Bloom Carroll and Unioto. Unioto would win 2-0, behind goals by Caleb Gaus(Cincinnati, Track) and Clifton Brown(Valparaiso). Unioto would lose leading goal scorer Tyler Bryant(Ohio Wesleyan) early in the 1st half, but would bounce back and shut out the strong BC offense. BC was led by Nick Blevins(Indiana) and several other quality players. BC would hit the post twice in the 1st half, but wouldn't come any closer after that. It was a rematch of a great regular season match as well, which Unioto won 1-0.
